Jake Paul's next fight announced in deleted tweet - and it's not Anthony Joshua

Daily Mirror5 hours ago
Jake Paul seemingly looks set to return to the boxing ring in November against a world class fighter - but it won't be against Anthony Joshua
Jake Paul 's next fight was accidentally leaked by Netflix before the streaming service quickly deleted the post.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer returned to the ring back in June for his first fight since defeating Mike Tyson last November. Paul took on former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr - and cruised to a decision victory. The 28-year-old is now hoping to stay busy and it seems as if his next fight is set.

Following his win over Chavez Jr, the American called out several fighters in his post-fight interview, including cruiserweight world champions Gilberto Ramirez and Badou Jack as well as Tommy Fury, Anthony Joshua and Gervonta Davis. It looked likely that a showdown between Paul and Joshua would take place after boxing promoter Eddie Hearn revealed there is a "very real" chance of the dust-up happening early next year.

However, Joshua has been handed a major blow after the official Netflix Turkiye account revealed that Paul will be taking on 'Tank' Davis on November 15 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The social media post was live for merely minutes before it was quickly taken down. That said, many fans were quick to spot and screenshot the post.
Davis was expected to rematch Lamont Roach later this year. The pair went head-to-head back in March and fought to a majority draw, but many believed as if Roach did enough to emerged victorious after he was wrongfully denied a knockdown in round nine. Promoter PBC were hoping to stage the sequel on August 16 in Las Vegas. It was then expected to to be pushed back by one to two weeks.
However, it seems as if both teams have moved on - with Roach himself refusing to wait any longer as he looks to get back into the ring soon. He told BoxingScene: "The rematch don't look like it's happening, just put it out there and be transparent with everyone — it's the only question I get asked 10 times a day, maybe more. As far as my future, we moving on, can't just sit around and drag our feet. There has been some recent news, his charges got dismissed in Florida."

The new Netflix Cowboys documentary better than The Last Dance

Rooting allegiances aside, American sports fans in the 1990s were largely fixated by two teams: The NBA 's Chicago Bulls and NFL's Dallas Cowboys. Now, three decades on, Netflix is learning that recipe still works. Five years after Netflix's successful documentary about Chicago's final championship, The Last Dance, it's Dallas' turn with 'America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys.' It may not offer quite as much behind-the-scenes footage as The Last Dance, which benefitted from a scrapped documentary that went unused for 20 years, but Netflix's latest offering is having a similar impact with audiences. 'Even though I rarely binge anything these days, I went through all of America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys,' one fan wrote online. 'It has more melodrama than The Last Dance, but I'd argue it's a far superior sports documentary series.' 'I'm four episodes in, but this Cowboys doc is better than the Last Dance,' another added. Even admitting to a 'generous portrayal' of controversial team owner Jerry Jones, Awful Announcing's Ben Axelrod also thought the eight-part series was 'better' than Last Dance. In particular, Axelrod was intrigued by the episode focusing on Jones' volatile relationship with Cowboys coach, Jimmy Johnson, who was hired to replace the legendary Tom Landry after Jones bought the team for just $150 million in 1989. (Today the Cowboys are the most valuable franchise in sports with estimates at over $12 billion) A national champion at Miami, Johnson was also a college football teammate and friend of Jones' at Arkansas, making him a natural choice to take over a team that went 3-13 in 1988. The turnaround happened within just a few seasons. Dallas already had receiver Michael Irvin, Johnson's best player at Miami, but would soon draft quarterback Troy Aikman. Later, in what many consider the most lopsided trade in NFL history, Dallas sent former Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker to the Minnesota Vikings for a bevy of picks that ultimately became Hall-of-Fame running back Emmitt Smith, star defensive tackle Russell Maryland and Pro Bowl safety Darren Woodson. After a 1-15 season in 1989, Dallas went to 7-9 in 1990 and 11-5 in 1991 before surviving a brutally tough NFC East division to win back-to-back Super Bowls in 1992 and 1993. But success wasn't enough for the team's owner and general manager, Jones. He also wanted some of the credit, much of which was going to the charismatic Johnson. Things quickly grew icy. At an owners meeting in Orlando, former Cowboys defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt remembered Jones raising a glass to toast the team's 1993 title only for Johnson to refuse. Later that night, reporters Ed Werder and Rick Gosselin recalled, Jones told them: 'Don't leave now. You'll miss the story of the year. I'm going to fire that motherf***er Jimmy Johnson, that disloyal son of a b****.' Once again, Jones fired a legendary coach, this time setting Johnson free before the 1994 season. And once again, Jones replaced his Super Bowl-winning coach with another Arkansas teammate of his who'd also won a national championship at the college leve: Oklahoma's Barry Switzer. Both Johnson and Jones would go on to have success separately, Johnson with the Dolphins and Jones with Switzer in Dallas, where they'd win another Super Bowl in 1995. The series goes on to tackle the team's many controversies, including an episode titled 'Cocaine Cowboy' about Irvin's off-field struggles, as well as the team's ultimate descent. It also includes a final chapter for Johnson and Jones, who admittedly struggled to get over his animosity for his former friend and coach. While undergoing his recently revealed cancer treatment in New York, Jones was advised by a doctor to 'make a list of 10 people who can just boil your blood' so that he could wish for them to have greater things in their life. 'At No. 1, I wrote down the name "Jimmy Johnson,"' Jones said, as quoted by the Morning News. 'I went back to the female doctor a few weeks later and said, "I can't get past that first mother..."

Jake Paul confirms opponent for next fight after Anthony Joshua talks

Jake Paul will step back into the ring later in the year for an exhibition fight against world lightweight champion Gervonta Davis. The social media star has built a professional boxing record of 12-1, with his only defeat coming by split decision to Tommy Fury in 2023. Despite many of his previous bouts coming against MMA fighters or boxers beyond their prime, Paul has been keen to take a huge step up in quality with his next opponent. The American was, remarkably, in talks with former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua over a potential blockbuster fight, but those plans have reportedly been scuppered due to network-related issues. However, Paul has now found a new world-level opponent after it was confirmed that he would take on fellow countryman Davis on Friday 14 November. The fight is set to take place at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia but will be an exhibition, most likely due to the huge size and weight difference between the duo. 'Tank' Davis, who has an unbeaten 30-0-1 professional record, including 28 knockouts, has usually campaigned in the 135lb lightweight division. Paul, meanwhile, weighed in for his last fight – a cruiserweight bout against former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr – at 199.4lbs. Alongside that 65.6lb weight disparity is the height difference, with Paul standing at 6ft 1in compared to Davis's 5ft 5in. The rules for the bout have not been confirmed, but it is expected that both will use larger-than-normal gloves due to the weight and height difference. And despite his vast inexperience compared to Davis, Paul has talked up his chances of causing a shock upset. 'Gervonta who has been disrespecting my name for too long. HIs nickname might be Tank, but I'm an FPV drone and I'm about to disable tiny boy,' he said. 'Yes, he's 1 of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds. And I like my odds. First, I am going to kill David, then I will go on to slaughter Goliath.' Davis last fought in March 2025 when he was fortunate to escape with a majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. Last month, the 30-year-old was arrested on battery and domestic violence charges after he was alleged to have assaulted his former girlfriend whom he shares two children. The fight will be streamed live globally only on Netflix. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
