Death in Paradise fans spot poignant Neville Parker tribute in spin-off Beyond Paradise

Daily Mirror01-05-2025

BBC Beyond Paradise viewers have spotted a subtle nod to Death in Paradise detective Neville Parker in the latest episode of the BBC One spin-off, which stars Kris Marshall
Loyal followers of Beyond Paradise have caught a sly nod to Death in Paradise's beloved detective Neville Parker, played by Ralf Little, within the new spin-off's latest episode. The show is drawing to a close this Friday, with fans eagerly anticipating how the storylines for Humphrey Goodman (portrayed by Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) will pan out.
In the most recent airing, the former Saint Marie detective found himself entangled in a mishap involving skydiving. His original plan was to join Martha's mother, Anne (played by Barbara Flynn), but an unforeseen injury meant she couldn't jump, leaving Humphrey to go solo.

Typically, the bumbling Humphrey didn't quite make the intended drop zone. Instead, his skydiving instructor got accidentally knocked out, resulting in Humphrey dangling precariously from a bridge via his parachute straps.
This isn't new territory for the klutzy Humphrey; he experienced a comparable debacle in Beyond Paradise's premiere episode, where he found himself suspended from a tree instead, reports Devon Live.
During this humour-filled escapade, sharp-eyed viewers remarked on an homage to the once skydive-fearing Neville Parker.
On a Facebook fan group, one eagle-eyed enthusiast probed: "Was it me or was there a little nod to Neville Parker and his utter fear of skydiving with Humphrey taking on the task?"
Echoing the catch, another affirmed: "Yes, partly that and partly just Humphrey being Humphrey. Remember the first time he met Esther? Stuck up that tree."
A third fan quipped: "Hanging off Tamar Bridge."

Ralf Little, famed for his role as Neville Parker in Death in Paradise, exited the series last year, with Don Gilet stepping in as the fresh-faced DI Mervin Wilson.
Viewers will remember how Neville was petrified of practically everything on the island and had a diet strictly limited to chicken and chips.
The fate of Beyond Paradise's third series hangs in the balance, but the teaser for this Friday's instalment reads: "When nurse Lucy vanishes on her way to work, suspicion falls on Josh Woods - Kelby's rival."

It goes on: "However, after Josh receives a chilling voicemail, the team starts to suspect that something far more sinister is at play. In the recording, Lucy can be heard shouting 'devil'' followed by a beastly growl."
The synopsis tantalises: "Could the legend of the Devil's Hump hold a vital clue to solving her disappearance? As the case intensifies, Humphrey finds himself torn between the personal and professional.
"With Rosie's birthday fast approaching, he and Martha are determined to throw her the perfect party."

The 1% Club viewers 'driven crazy' by baffling question that 'makes no sense'

The 1% Club has proven to be a huge hit since launching on ITV in 2022, but one question has left viewers scratching their heads, with some even admitting it's 'driving them crazy' The 1% Club, an ITV gameshow hosted by Lee Mack, has left viewers scratching their heads over a particularly challenging question. Since its debut in 2022, the show has been a massive hit, bagging two National Television Awards. ‌ The game involves 100 contestants answering questions that have already been answered by the general public, each starting with a £1,000 stake. ‌ Lee poses 15 questions of increasing difficulty, starting with one that 90% of people answered correctly and ending with one that only 1% got right. Contestants have 30 seconds to lock in their answers and can progress to the next round if they answer correctly or pass after the 50% question. Those who reach the final question could win up to £100,000 or share the prize pot, while those playing along at home can simply enjoy the challenge. However, one question has left fans stumped and has been circulating on social media. Posted on a Facebook page, the question was: What is the next letter in this sequence? SENTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. ‌ This question, from a May 2022 episode, was the final one of the quiz show, meaning only 1% of the general population answered it correctly. While some managed to solve it, others confessed their confusion. "Wouldn't get it in 30 days never mind 30 secs," one viewer commented. ‌ "It's easy when you know but tricky otherwise," another added. One viewer joked: "How to feel dumb on a Thursday morning." ‌ A cynic chimed in, saying: "All the people answering acting like they worked it out, 100% goggled it or watched live." Others were left perplexed, with one writing: "That makes no sense," and another admitting they were "lost" and asking for explanations. "Can someone explain that this is more than just a few buzzwords? It's driving me crazy," one frustrated viewer asked. ‌ However, some people did manage to crack the code, with one explaining: "S-seventeen, E-eighteen, N-nineteen, T-twenty, Each other T represents the numbers between Twenty and Thirty Nine. Next letter is F for Forty." One impressed viewer replied: "You're overworking that brain, if I was to be given my entire life to think of that I wouldn't figure it out." A sceptic also questioned the authenticity of one of the correct answers, claiming: "They watched it on TV, maybe even Googled the answer, no one on the show got it, I was bamboozled and I have an IQ of 139."

James Martin says 'goodbye' as he makes emotional career announcement

James Martin confirmed that ITV's Saturday Morning would be taking a break with him and the rest of the crew for the summer holidays James Martin has announced he's taking a well-deserved break from his popular ITV cooking show, Saturday Morning, as he and the team enjoy some summer downtime. Wrapping up today's episode, the celebrity chef expressed his gratitude: "That's all we have got time for today, a massive thank you to all of my guests." ‌ He gave a shout-out to his culinary squad: "My food team, you can sleep better now. Daniel and Sally, and of course, Harry Redknapp and Carly Paoli." ‌ James then revealed the season's end: "That is also for the series. Me and the crew are heading off on sunny holidays. Different climates." In a light-hearted exchange with one of the crew, James inquired about holiday destinations, learning that one was off to Portugal, while he himself would be heading to Yorkshire, reports Devon Live. He promised viewers more culinary delights upon their return: "Yorkshire for me. But we will be back here with more top chefs, other brilliant guests, and more delicious recipes later on in the year." Signing off, James wished everyone a splendid summer: "Until then, thanks for watching. Have a wonderful, fantastic summer. I'll see you out there wherever you are." He concluded with a friendly farewell: "Thanks for watching, see you again soon, goodbye for now." ‌ Earlier in the show, James had informed the audience of a shorter episode due to the Derby broadcast on ITV1: "Because of the Derby on ITV1 this afternoon, it is a shorter episode than usual today. But we still have time for one more dish," he explained. During a segment filmed in Italy, James even joked about retiring there after tasting a local chef's traditional fish dish, much to the delight of viewers. "Can I just say if your two sons don't want to do this, you call me," he offered. He then laughed and mused over an enticing possibility: "I might retire here. I could be over there, I could be doing this, it is fantastic." James Martin's Saturday Morning is available to watch on ITVX.
