On this week's episode of What Do You Wanna Talk About?, former Undisputed
WWE
Champion
Cody Rhodes
welcomed his longtime friend Ricky Saints, previously known as Ricky Starks in AEW. Many fans expected Saints to join Rhodes in WWE as soon as possible, especially after a year filled with backstage rumors, frustrated interviews, and other drama.
Earlier this year, Saints finally debuted in NXT, and during the podcast, he shared the story of how his move to WWE came together, including a pivotal phone call from Chief Creative Officer Paul 'Triple H' Levesque.
Ricky Saints reveals his detailed call with
Triple H
Saints recalled the moment, saying,
Triple H
had called him just when he got off a flight to Seattle. He didn't know the number, and it didn't say Stamford [Connecticut, where WWE is headquartered] or anything for him to know who is this? He continued,
'So Hunter calls me.
And he asked me, 'Hey, would you want to come in? We're interested, blah, blah, blah. We would love to have you, you're talented, X, Y, and Z.' And I was like, 'Oh yeah, sure, hell yeah.''
As the conversation unfolded, Saints struggled to hear Triple H over the noisy airport.
Right as Ricky was getting on the tram, HHH said something about Raw or SmackDown. Then Saints actually had his ears focused, asking,
'Wait, what? What did you say?' And I was so scared to say, 'Hey, can you repeat yourself?' Basically, what he was saying was, 'Hey, we're not going to put you on Raw or SmackDown just yet,' but it could have been anything.

I was like, 'Okay, sweet.''
Although Saints might not have minded starting on the main roster, a major highlight was the chance to meet NXT's head,
Shawn Michaels
.
Saints was like,
'Of course I will. Like, yes, I would love that.' That's all I really wanted is just resources. I feel like I'm a rough diamond that just needs a little polishing,'
Saints explained. He emphasized the unique opportunity at WWE's Performance Center in Orlando, where talent can refine their skills under top coaches like Michaels. Unlike AEW, which focuses on immediate output due to its newer structure, WWE's setup allows for long-term development. He wasted no time and
joined WWE
just a day after his AEW contract ended.

Now, Saints is honing his craft with Michaels and the Performance Center team, preparing for a Falls Count Anywhere match against NXT North American Champion Ethan Page at Great American Bash this Saturday. Meanwhile, AEW is gearing up for its All In Texas event at the same time.

Music Box Films acquires rights to Petra Volpe's Late Shift, Switzerland's official Oscar entry

Music Box Films has locked in North American rights to Late Shift, Petra Volpe's tense hospital-set drama that Switzerland just announced as its official entry for the Oscars' international feature race. According to Variety, the deal comes as the film continues a strong run in Europe, where it is already sold in more than 50 territories through sales outfit TrustNordisk. Still from Late Shift trailer(YouTube/Madman Films) Leonie Benesch - fresh off acclaim for The Teachers' Lounge - leads the film as Floria, a surgical ward nurse fighting to keep patients safe during an understaffed, high-pressure shift. What starts as a routine day unravels into an urgent, ticking-clock ordeal. Volpe wrote and directed, with Reto Schaerli and Lukas Hobi producing for Zodiac Pictures. Strong festival run Late Shift bowed at the Berlin Film Festival in February, drawing critical praise and racking up more than 650,000 admissions across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The movie's mix of procedural realism and human warmth has made it accessible to audiences well beyond its Swiss roots. Brian Andreotti, head of acquisitions at Music Box, called it 'a grounded thriller that is readily relatable to anyone who spends their working day on their feet.' He added that Benesch's performance 'drives home the dignity and strength of nurses everywhere," reports Variety. Has Karrion Kross been released by the WWE? Explaining the controversy surrounding his status with the promotion

Karrion Kross on August 11 confirmed that he is no longer with the WWE and added that he will soon be taking independent booking. Scarlett, his wife and manager, too has apparently been let go by the company. While this seems to be legit, there may be more to the situation. Veteran journalist Dave Meltzer has stated in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that everyone backstage is 'skeptical' about whether this is a shoot. This suggests that the whole thing may just be work. He had also earlier stated that WWE offered Kross and Scarlett contracts ahead of the end of their current deals. This has further added to the mystery surrounding their status. Karrion Kross released: Is it a work? WWE, like most pro wrestling companies, is a storyline-driven product. In fact, the whole business thrives on Kayfabe (making things that aren't real look real). Keeping this in mind, the scenario may just be WWE's way of testing his popularity and bringing him back when the time is right. If this happens, the angle may have shades of the recent fiasco involving R-Truth. In case you did not know, 'Ronnie' was released by the WWE a few months ago. He, however, returned at Money in the Bank and helped Cody Rhodes-Jey Uso beat Logan Paul and John Cena. This came after the company faced intense backlash from fans. Triple H, the head of WWE's creative team, described it as a work, but Truth maintained it wasn't. Going down this route would help the company bring him back as a face and give him a push. Karrion Kross to return as a heel? The WWE in recent years has constantly tried to blur the line between reality and storyline. The injury angle with Seth Rollins is a case in point. 'The Visionary' lost his match against LA Knight at Saturday Night's Main Event after 'injuring' his knee. This was described as a legitimate setback and Rollins was even seen on crutches backstage during Evolution. However, it was eventually revealed that he wasn't injured. The injury was part of a storyline and he returned at SummerSlam Night 1 to cash-in his MITB contract on a vulnerable CM Punk. This again suggests that the Karrion Kross contract situation may just be another angle. In this case, he could return as a heel and target some popular stars. Karrion Kross' rise in the WWE is undeniable Kross had emerged as a bankable mid-card heel over the last few months courtesy of his mic skills. His segments with AJ Styles and Sami Zayn were well-received. He also received a push when he squared off against the Canadian star at Night of Champions and SummerSlam, losing on both occasions. His stint with the WWE is seemingly over for now but the company's track record suggests that there may be a twist in the tale.

Not just Donald Trump, Zohran Mamdani too has a strong connection with the WWE

Donald Trump, one of the world's most influential leaders, has often made headlines because of his association with the WWE. The President of the United States shares a strong rapport with Vince McMahon, the former Chairman of the sports entertainment juggernaut. He also appeared at WrestleMania 23 in 2007 and participated in the 'Battle of the Billionaires' in which his representative Bobby Lashley beat Vince's pick, Umaga. He secured nearly 43% of the vote to pull off the career-changing feat. Shortly before that WWE star Sami Zayn sent a message to him on X (formerly known as Twitter) in which he expressed a desire to meet him in person. This post came hours after Zayn landed in New York City for Fanatics Fest. 'I'm in NYC where you at @ZohranKMamdani?,' read his post. I'm in NYC where you at @ZohranKMamdani ? Mamdani responded to it by asking Zayn to DM him. The Canadian star is an integral part of the WWE's mid-card division. He recently beat US Champion Solo Sikoa, the US Champion, in a non-title match on SmackDown. On the August 11 episode of Raw, he beat Rusev by DQ after interference from Solo Sikoa's MFT. Zayn also hopes to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship, currently held by Seth Rollins, in the near future. Who is Zohran Mamdani? All you need to know Born in Uganda in 1991, Zohran Mamdai is filmmaker Mira Nair and academic Mahmood Mamdani's son. He shifted to the US. as a child and spent his formative years in New York City.
