EastEnders star slams BBC soap actors in savage 'haven't got a clue' swipe

Former EastEnders actor Jamie Foreman, who portrayed Derek Branning, launched a stinging critique of his ex-cast mates, claiming they "wouldn't last two minutes" in varied acting roles. He also shared how an older actress from the BBC's beloved drama agreed with his stern assessment.
Jamie graced Albert Square from November 2011 until December 2012, where his character's scandalous affair with Kat Slater (played by Jessie Wallace), married to Alfie Moon (Shane Richie), captivated audiences. Derek's tenure ended abruptly with a heart attack in the Christmas Day episode.
Since then, the actor, now 67, has not shied away from expressing his thoughts about fellow performers from the show.
During an appearance on The Lewis Nicholls Show, he said: "The discipline on the set is just... it is just... I was sitting with an older actress on there who is unfortunately not with us any more.
"We are sitting on the set and she lent over to me and she went 'haven't got a f***ing clue have they?' And we are watching all these young (actors) thinking they are the bee's knees, you know."
Jamie continued his pointed remarks noting: "And the discipline, and directors are going (clears throat) and I am sitting there... would not last two minutes outside of here and invariably none of them do."
With a laugh, he wrapped up his musings: "They always end up having to go back so I think I gave a very bad clue there didn't I? I think I have just grassed myself right up on that one."
Jamie, who has graced our screens in Double Decker Driving School and Birds of a Feather, opened up further about his stint on EastEnders, describing it as "just another job" and "far from a highlight" of his acting career.
He revealed that he had been approached "many times" to join the soap but only agreed when they consented to a one-year term.
However, Jamie, whose film credits include Rise of the Footsoldier and Oliver Twist, expressed disappointment with the soap's management, alleging that they "made promises they never kept".
The actor shared the gruelling schedule of once filming up to 36 scenes a day, which "burnt him out", despite assurances that he wouldn't have to work Saturdays, stating: "I did every Saturday. I was the first in, last out every day."
Despite his experiences, he recognised the significance of EastEnders for its audience, acknowledging its "iconic" status and the respect it commands, particularly for the BBC.
Following the release of the podcast on YouTube, viewers shared their thoughts, with one commenting: "Fantastic interview. Jamie Foreman so underrated as an actor."
Another viewer admitted to having preconceptions about Jamie, saying: "I had misconceptions of Jamie, thinking he would be cocky etc. Dignified, lovely man, I absolutely have the utmost respect for Jamie. Beautiful guy."

The former couple, who announced in December they had split after an on-off 12-year relationship, put the five-bed home up for sale for £2million earlier this year. A source told the Mirror: "The property has now been sold, subject to contract." Seven-time world snooker champ Ronnie, 49, and former EastEnders and Footballers Wives actress Laila, 53, jointly bought the house, in Woodford Green, east London, for £1.35million in June 2018. The dad-of-three is now understood to be planning to quit the UK and move to the Middle East where he has a snooker academy. Speaking after being knocked out of the World Snooker Championship, which ended last month, Ronnie admitted: "There's going to be a few changes in my life. I think I'm going to be moving out of the UK. "I'm going to start a new life somewhere else. I'll still try to play snooker, but I don't know what the future looks like for me, really. On Saturday (June 7), Dawn, who wrote and starred in the BBC sketch comedy series French and Saunders with her best friend and comedy partner Jennifer Saunders, posted a statement on X saying she has taken down the video. She expressed her apologies, saying her intention was never "to mock, or dismiss, or diminish the horror of what happened" on October 7, 2023, when Hamas killed some 1,200 people at a music festival in Israel. "Ok, it's important to address this," French wrote. "I posted a video in the style I've been using for social media in an effort to convey an important point. I clumsily used a mocking tone. "My intention was NEVER to mock, or dismiss, or diminish the horror of what happened on 7 October 2023 and what continues to unfold from that brutal unthinkable, unforgivable, savage attack. "My heart broke for the many innocent people and their families that were killed, tortured, raped and kidnapped. The fact that hostages are still held is utterly appalling. "My intention was to mock and point the finger of shame at the behaviour of the cruel leaders on ALL sides of this atrocious war, who have continued to behave like the worst, dangerous, sickening bullies and seem to relish the tyrannical and childish one-upmanship of the violence. "THEY were my target, but clearly I failed to do that, and that's on me. I apologise unreservedly. "I'm particularly sorry that my disgust at Hamas didn't figure. It appeared one-sided, and that is wrong." She went on: "I am a person, who like many others, is feeling increasingly helpless and hopeless as we witness the carnage and destruction worsen. The images of starving and wounded children have haunted me day and night. "History has taught us never to stand by and allow this kind of inhumane violence to be wrought on anyone, especially innocent children. "I have felt my silence is complicit or even somehow sanctioning. So in my small way I wanted to voice my desire to say NO – to BOTH sides – to any further violence. "I hope you will understand my intention was not to offend, but clearly I have. For which I'm sorry and I have removed the video." At least 54,607 Palestinians have reportedly been killed in Gaza and more than 125,000 have been injured between October 7, 2023 and June 4, 2025, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH) in Gaza.
