Leaders urge journalists to report with social responsibility
Rajya Sabha member Eeranna Kadadi said that the media needed to introspect on its rights and wrongs. 'The media needs to be responsible. Sometimes it creates heroes and villains overnight. This can damage people's reputation and deny credit to those who truly deserve it. Journalists should always be guided by justice and not emotions. Implications of a news story should be studied beforehand,' he said. He also spoke of the increasing influence of advertisers on media houses.
Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S. Guled urged journalists not to report in a hurry. 'There are always multiple angles to any story. Journalists need to study all of them and acquaint themselves with various possibilities. They need to tread cautiously, while reporting crime incidents,' he said.
Police Commissioner Borase Gulabrao Bhushan urged media houses to create awareness about cybercrimes and financial scams being committed using hi-tech tools. He said that it was time to highlight local issues, bring out the good deeds by local leaders and activists and alert the public against potential dangers of using technological tools.
Priyanka Jarkiholi, MP, urged journalism colleges and universities to update their curriculum to prepare young journalists of the future. 'Technology is advancing at such a fast pace that it is difficult to keep up with it. Journalism schools and media houses should train youngsters in using technology for the good of the society,' she said.
'The media plays an important role in shaping the dynamics of society. Of course, there are positive and negative dimensions to the impact of the media. Media tends to amplify some aspects and downplay some others. We need to realise that this can have lasting impact on the society,' she said.
Asif Sait, MLA, said that owing to the increased role of social media in news reporting, leaders were forced to be alert about what they say. 'I have learnt this lesson the hard way. However, sometimes, relying on portals and social media can be dangerous at times,' he said.
Guests presented awards to winners of sports events. A team of the district Forest Department won the Media Cup cricket tournament. Sunita Nimbargi, Assistant Conservator of Forests, donated the ₹1,11,111 cash prize for the construction of the Media Bhavan. As many as 14 senior journalists were felicitated.

Monsoon Session likely to be ‘stormy' as Congress set to corner government
'An unprecedented attack had taken place in Pahalgam. We have been seeking a special session to have a discussion on this. We and the people of this country want to know where those terrorists are. Why has no action been taken yet? Who was responsible for the killing of 26 people? Why was no single security personnel present there? Why was the quick response team missing?...Why is Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintaining a mysterious silence on the US president Donald Trump on brokering a ceasefire during Operation Sindoor? He hasn't responded yet to his claim,' said Tiwari. The month-long Monsoon session of Parliament is set to begin on July 21. He further stated that the Congress would also corner the Government on the issue of 'electoral manipulations' in elections in states such as Maharashtra, Haryana, and now in Bihar. The Congress will also raise the issue of rising incidents of crimes against women and Scheduled Castes across the country, particularly in states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha. 'The Congress will raise the demand for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, which has remained pending despite repeated assurances from the Government,' he said. On the question of the impeachment motion against Allahabad High Court justice Yashwant Verma, who is facing allegations of corruption charges after the discovery of burnt cash from his official residence in Delhi, the Congress leader didn't give any clear reply. He said that several other issues were also discussed in the meeting. Earlier in the day, the Congress president, Mallikarjun Kharge, met Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and said the opposition wants a productive session. 'The Opposition wants a productive Rajya Sabha session from July 21st. For that to happen a number of strategic, political, foreign policy and socio-economic issues that are of great public concern need to be debated and discussed. Today, I called on the Hon'ble Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and had a fruitful conversation,' Kharge wrote on 'X'.

The session is also set to see the Opposition INDIA bloc parties demand that the government brief Parliament on Operation Sindoor and India's foreign policy, especially with China. They may also seek information on the proposed India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement and US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he used trade as a bargaining chip to persuade India and Pakistan to end their military conflict. On Tuesday, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who is also leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, met Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. 'The Opposition wants a productive Rajya Sabha session from July 21. The government's 'tentative' list of business for the monsoon session, released by the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats late Monday evening, does not mention a Bill to amend the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) of 2016. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance is currently studying the IBC to recommend to the government ways to make it more robust. In its three meetings on the subject, 'review of working IBC and emerging issues', the panel has tried to understand the perspectives of banks. At its meeting slated for July 29, it will meet representatives of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The government is also set to introduce the Geoheritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance), National Sports Governance Bill, and National Anti- Doping (Amendment) Bills. It would also help establish measures for the resolution of sports grievances and sports disputes. In addition to these Bills, Parliament will also consider some of the pending Bills, including the Income-tax Bill, which was referred to a select committee during the Budget session for further scrutiny. The government will also seek Parliament approval for having extended the President's Rule in Manipur.

UP man poses as gangster Lawrence Bishnoi to extort Rs 1 crore from Bengaluru businessman, arrested with 3 others
Four people, including three rowdy-sheeters from Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested in Bengaluru over an extortion call in which a caller falsely claimed to be notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, the police said on Tuesday. The arrested accused are Mohammad Rafiq from Mavalli in Bengaluru, and UP natives Shishupal Singh alias Monty, Vansh Sachdev, and Amit Chaudhary, Commissioner of Police Seemant Kumar Singh said. Police investigations confirmed that none of the three had any connection to Lawrence Bishnoi, who is infamous for issuing death threats to actor Salman Khan and allegedly orchestrating the murders of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala and Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique. On July 9, a Bengaluru-based businessman allegedly received a phone call where the impersonator demanded Rs 1 crore and threatened to kidnap his son if the ransom wasn't paid. He immediately contacted the police and filed a complaint. Special teams were formed and upon getting the technical details, the team initially arrested Rafiq. Through detailed call record analysis and technical investigations, officers tracked down the other three suspects to Delhi. They were brought to Bengaluru on transit warrants. The police revealed that Rafiq had a previous business relationship with the complainant involving unresolved financial matters from several years ago. However, the immediate motive was Rafiq's debt of approximately Rs 2 crore, which prompted his desperate search for money, they added. The conspiracy was hatched when Rafiq travelled to Delhi for court proceedings related to a previous case. There, he encountered Amit through advocates. After sharing his predicament, Amit offered a solution, claiming knowledge of individuals experienced in kidnapping and extortion operations, according to the police. The group of four met regularly and during one evening while drinking at Amit's lodge, they conceived the plan to impersonate Lawrence Bishnoi, according to the police. This decision was influenced by social media videos and reels about the gangster that they had watched online. Rafiq allegedly provided logistical support for his UP-based accomplices who made the extortion call. Investigations have uncovered that the suspects brought a countrymade pistol from Uttar Pradesh and the police are yet to recover it.
