Niemann breezes to fifth LIV Golf success of season
Niemann carded a three-under 68 on Sunday to finish with a 17-under 196 for the tournament at the JCB Golf and Country Club in Rocester, England.
The Torque GC captain collected five birdies against two bogeys to add his to his titles at Adelaide, Singapore, Mexico City and Virginia.
Sunday's victory served as a $4 million payday for Niemann, who began the week by firing his caddie and coach after missing the cut at the 2025 Open Championship.
Niemann's Torque GC, however, were unable to hold their three-stroke lead over Legion XIII in their bid for a first team title since 2023.
Legion XIII shot a staggering 14-under on Sunday to finish at 35-under for the tournament, eight strokes better than Torque GC.
Niemann wasn't too interested in talking about his individual play on Sunday.
He said: "Well, I'm going to talk for the first two days because today I didn't feel like I had my best. Yeah, it was great. I was able to flow on tough situations.
"I felt like today I was pretty calm, pretty chill, until Bubba (Watson) started playing golf. He made it tough for me. I was actually feeling the pressure on 13, 14, but, yeah, just stay in the present. Yeah, was able to hit a great shot on 15. After that put me back into my place."
Watson had a stretch of four birdies and two eagles from No.9 to No.14. He rolled in six birdies overall to finish in second place at 14-under after a third-round 65.
Niemann put a halt to his charge after sending a shot within five feet of the cup on the 15th hole.
"I was pretty happy to see that ball go in that close, and making that birdie I think was huge for the next three holes," he said.
Caleb Surratt (65 on Sunday) sank six birdies during his bogey-free round to finish at 13-under for the tournament, followed by Talor Gooch (66) at 11-under.
As for team play, Legion XIII captain Jon Rahm was thrilled after his team captured their fourth title of the season.
"With all four scores counting this year I thought we played to our advantage. It showed early on and it's showing now," Rahm said.
Cameron Smith was the highest placed Australian, finishing 10th, nine shots off the lead. Marc Leishman was a shot behind with Lucas Herbert 34th and Matt Jones 40th.

‘Honour': Icons join Aussie sporting greats
Australian tennis champion Lleyton Hewitt called it 'surreal' and NRL legend Cameron Smith an 'incredible honour' as the iconic duo were among six new inductees to the ultimate collection of sporting champions in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. Recently named an official AFL legend, goalkicking great Jason Dunstall, Netball World Cup winning captain Laura Geitz, Australia's most capped Socceroo Mark Schwarzer and Olympic snowboarding gold medallist Torah Bright rounded out the superstar six. They joined the absolute elite, the best in Australian sport ever, including Sir Donald Bradman, Dawn Fraser and Cathy Freeman, in the Hall of Fame, which recognises only the top echelon of athletes who have achieved the highest honours at the peak level of competition. Hewitt, a two-time grand slam winner and former world No. 1, a ranking he held for 75 consecutive weeks, is already in the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Australian Tennis Hall of Fame but was blown away by the latest honours. 'It's pretty surreal to be honest,' he said. 'When you're playing your professional career it's not something you think about at all or focus on, but over the years growing up in Australia we've had such a rich history, not only in our sport of tennis, but also in so many other great sports as well, that I've had so many great role models and idols that I've looked up to, all there in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. 'So for me now to be inducted is an incredible honour.'' LIV star set for Australian Open return
LIV star and 2023 Australian Open champ Joaquin Niemann has declared his intent to join Rory McIlroy and play at Royal Melbourne in December. Chilean gun Niemann has won a staggering five times from LIV's 11 events in 2025 and could seal the season-long individual title in Chicago this week. His winning run would arguably have him in the world's top 10 if LIV players were given world ranking points. Amid a renewed request from LIV officials to get points, Niemann said he hoped those in charge of the world rankings, including former Masters champion Trevor Immelman, would do the 'right thing'. He said he tried not to think about where he would sit in the world pecking order and what it could mean for majors qualification, given there were no rankings points on offer just yet. 'It's not something that I think about to tell myself in the mirror, Joaco, you are No.5 …- no, I don't do that,' he said. 'That's not my job. I feel like I'm just here to do my best and try to make as many birdies as possible and to make the crowd enjoy us playing golf around the world. 'I feel like the ranking system is not up to me, it's up to them. I'm expecting that they're going to do the right thing for golf.' Niemann has played in the past two Australian Opens, winning in 2023, using the event, as well as the Australian PGA, to get crucial ranking points. His recent Open and PGA experiences, as well as playing in the LIV event in Adelaide, have made Australia a favourite destination and he's keen to join McIlroy, who will be the headline act when the Open returns to Royal Melbourne. 'We'll see what's going to happen with everything else, but I would love to go back to Australia,' he said. '(Royal Melbourne) is one of my favourite golf courses that I've played. Also, I think Australian golf has probably the best courses in the world, and I feel like more than just the tournament, it's just I really enjoy going there and playing golf in Australia in front of those people. It's a lot of fun.' Australian Open officials hope both the lure of ranking points, and spots in the 2026 British Open for a top three-finish in the event, as well as the Australian PGA, lure a raft of other stars to join McIlroy, Adam Scott, Cam Smith and now likely Niemann in the field.
