Gill, Bumrah in India's Asia Cup squad, Jaiswal ignored
Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and middle order batter Shreyas Iyer, however, could not make the cut in the 15-member squad led by Suryakumar Yadav.
India's Test captain Gill has not played a T20 International since July last year when he was Suryakumar's deputy on the tour of Sri Lanka.
"That's where we started a new cycle," Suryakumar, who took over T20 captaincy from Rohit Sharma after India won the 20-overs World Cup title last year, told reporters.
"After that he got busy with all the Test series and he didn't get an opportunity to play T20s because he was busy playing Test cricket and Champions Trophy.
"So he's there in the squad and we're happy to have him."
India also included Bumrah, whose workload has been a major concern for the team think-tank, which played him in three of the five Tests in England earlier this year.
With three opening options in Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson — India could not accommodate Jaiswal.
"With regard to Yashasvi, it's just unfortunate again," chief selector Ajit Agarkar said.
"There's Abhishek Sharma, what he's done over the last year or so, plus he can bowl a little bit, he gives us that option if required.
"One of these guys was going to miss out, Yashasvi just has to wait for his chance."
Samson and Jitesh Sharma are the two wicketkeepers in the side, which also includes left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav.

CAIRNS, Australia: Aiden Markram hit 82 before left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj tore through Australia's new-look batting order as South Africa claimed the One-Day International series opener by 98 runs in Cairns on Tuesday. Sent in to bat, Markram — opening for the first time in ODIs since 2021 — crunched nine boundaries in his 81-ball knock to power South Africa to a formidable 296-8. Oman withdraws from Asia Cup hockey tournament in India
Muscat – Oman has withdrawn from the Asia Cup hockey tournament scheduled in Bihar, India from August 29. Pakistan has also pulled out amid reported political tensions. Bangladesh and Kazakhstan will replace Pakistan and Oman, respectively, according to the tournament schedule released on Tuesday. Oman Hockey Association did not provide a reason for the withdrawal. Oman had secured a place in the Asia Cup 2025 after defeating Chinese Taipei 4-3 in a closely contested AFC Hockey Cup final in Jakarta, Indonesia in April. Host India has been drawn in Pool A alongside China, Japan and Kazakhstan. Pool B comprises Malaysia, South Korea, Chinese Taipei and Bangladesh. The winner of the eight-team tournament will qualify for the 2026 World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands. The tournament will begin on August 29 with Malaysia facing Bangladesh, followed by South Korea taking on Chinese Taipei. India will play China in the final match of the opening day before the home crowd. The pool stage will be followed by the Super4s from September 3 to 6, with the sequence of matches to be confirmed after completion of the pool stage. The final and third-place matches, along with the 5th/6th classification games, are scheduled for September 7.
