Auburn WR Cam Coleman has 'breakout potential' for 2025 season
However, due to inconsistent quarterback play and offensive game planning, Coleman did not have as strong of a season as fellow top-five receivers Jeremiah Smith from Ohio State and Ryan Williams from Alabama. He ended the 2024 season as the team's second-leading receiver with 598 yards on 37 catches with eight touchdowns.
However, Ari Wasserman of On3 believes that Coleman can make great strides toward becoming a household name in 2025. Wasserman expects Coleman to benefit greatly from Auburn's revamped quarterback room, which led him to include him on his list of 10 college football players with breakout potential.
Last year was a huge year for true freshmen wide receivers like Alabama's Ryan Williams and Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith. Coleman, who also was a five-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle, has talent and potential that is similar to those two players, but he likely wasn't able to reach his full potential a year ago because of Auburn's inconsistent quarterback play. Coleman still had 37 receptions for 598 yards and 8 touchdowns. Auburn has options to greatly improve its quarterback play, which could be the situation Coleman needs to launch himself into full stardom.
Following the 2024 season, Auburn blew up and rebuilt its quarterback room with two experienced transfer quarterbacks, an Alabama high school legend with SEC experience, and a five-star true freshman. Jackson Arnold, Auburn's projected starting quarterback, was a five-star quarterback in high school and won Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas. He passed for 1,421 yards and 12 touchdowns during his redshirt freshman season at Oklahoma last season and looks to take a step forward with a more experienced offensive line and talented receivers such as Coleman to work with. Ex-Stanford quarterback Ashton Daniels will also compete for the job. Daniels has passed for 3,986 yards and 21 touchdowns in three collegiate seasons.
According to Pro Football Focus, Coleman was Auburn's third-most efficient receiver behind KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Malcolm Simmons. Coleman, along with Simmons, returns to Auburn's offense this season and will have the luxury of playing alongside the transfer portal's No. 1 receiver Eric Singleton.

Auburn basketball locks in visit with four-star wing Alex Egbuonu
Auburn basketball is working to fill out its 2026 class, and one of its major targets has locked in a visit for November. Alex Egbuonu, a four-star wing from Groton, Massachusetts, has revealed his official visit schedule for the fall. The talented forward will visit Auburn during the weekend of Nov. 1-3, concluding his string of visits that includes Boston College, Georgetown, Florida State, Stanford, and Providence. In an interview with Dushawn London of 247Sports, Egbuonu outlined his recruitment and commitment timeline, as well as what he is looking for in a college home. "The decision will probably come sometime after Christmas," Egbuonu said. "It'll come down to development, relationships with the coaches, and just knowing who I'm going to be with for the season and making sure it's right for me and my family." Bruce Pearl and the Tigers are in a great spot to land Egbuonu, according to Rivals. Rivals gives Auburn a 14.5% chance to land the small forward from Massachusetts, behind Marquette and Xavier. What helps Auburn in this case is that Egbuonu has not scheduled an official visit to Xavier and has already visited Auburn once, unofficially. The 6-6 forward is "built like a football player with a super-powerful upper body, long arms, and good hands according to a scouting report from 247Sports' Adam Finkelstein. Expect Auburn to continue working to sign Egbuonu to be a part of what could be a great signing class for Auburn in 2026. Pearl and the Tigers are also pursuing top talent such as guards Neiko Munday and Colben Landrew, as well as forward Jalan Wingfield. With his desire for a hefty contract extension not going anywhere, McLaurin has requested a trade from the Commanders. It has not been revealed how much the 29-year-old star is seeking in his new deal. Jhabvala noted that only nine wide receivers earn at least $30 million per year. He has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for five seasons, the most by any player in team history. Last year, he tallied a career-best 13 touchdowns and was instrumental in the squad's inspired run, reaching the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991. 'Since 2010, only 16 receivers have topped 1,000 receiving yards in a season in which they were 31 or older by September 1 of that year,' added Jhavala, citing TruMedia. In 2022, McLaurin signed a three-year deal worth an annual average of $22.79 million, which ranks 18th among current wide receivers. The two-time Pro Bowler is set to earn a base salary of $15.5 million this year. It's unclear how much interest McLaurin would get from other teams following his trade request, considering his high price tag. But with his consistent production, he'll be an asset to any offensive unit looking for extra firepower.
