As part of its continued commitment to empowering women and enhancing their role within the Bank and the broader banking industry, Gulf Bank is carrying on with its monthly Women of Wisdom (WOW) sessions an internal initiative designed specifically for its female employees. These sessions aim to inspire personal growth, strengthen connections, and cultivate leadership among women across the organization.
In the latest session, which drew strong engagement from employees across various departments, renowned coach and consultant Ms. Rehab Al-Tawari led an insightful talk titled 'Building Connections: Strengthening the Assets That Matter.' Tailored specifically for early-career female employees, the session offered an engaging and interactive experience, guiding participants through the importance of professional relationships and strategies to nurture key personal assets in the workplace. Drawing from her rich experience in the banking and education sectors, Ms. Al-Tawari sparked meaningful conversations on how to thrive during the early stages of one's career.
The Women of Wisdom (WOW) initiative provides a supportive platform for women to navigate workplace challenges, find balance between personal and professional life, and boost female representation in leadership roles. It also serves as a space for networking, idea-sharing, and open dialogue around the experiences and challenges women face throughout their careers.
Gulf Bank was one of the first banks in Kuwait to eliminate gender-based disparities in employee benefits, ensuring equal opportunities and treatment for both male and female staff. It also stands among the early signatories of the United Nations Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) in Kuwait, reflecting its deep-rooted commitment to advancing gender equality in the workplace and beyond.
Introduced in 2017 as one of Gulf Bank's leading internal initiatives, the Women of Wisdom (WOW) program continues to provide monthly sessions that delve into key topics such as leadership, personal development, and maintaining work-life balance — all with the goal of empowering women and fostering a strong, collaborative network within the Bank.

UAE: 9 new public schools to open amid major education upgrades across nation

Nine new public schools are set to open across the UAE in the new academic year starting from August 25. Meanwhile, maintenance work has been carried out at 465 schools nationwide. 'Nine new public schools will open, and maintenance work at 465 schools across the UAE has been carried out. This year, 25,345 new students will join the education system, supported by 830 newly recruited teachers and staff,' said Sara Al Amiri, Minister of Education, UAE, during a press conference held on Tuesday, announcing the preparations for the 2025-26 academic year. The minister added, 'To ensure smooth operations and readiness for the new academic year, 5,560 school buses have been deployed, 46,888 laptops distributed, and more than 10 million textbooks printed. Over 1 million students return for new academic year after summer break.' Additionally, the Ministry has also announced the cancellation of centralised examinations, replacing them with school-prepared tests starting from the second semester.' Notably, the UAE's Ministry of Education had earlier announced a unified academic calendar for the 2025–26 school year, covering both public and private schools. The school year will begin on August 25, 2025, and end on July 3, 2026 (with private schools in Sharjah closing a day earlier). The framework, approved by the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council, aims to unify schedules across the country and balance instructional time with longer breaks to support student well-being. Under the new plan, pupils will have a four-week winter break in December and a two-week spring break in March. In addition, three mid-term breaks are scheduled in October, February and May. According to the Ministry's website, the 2025/2026 academic calendar for public schools and private schools following the ministry curriculum includes a total of 178 school days distributed across 14 weeks in the first term, 9 weeks in the second term, and 13 weeks in the third term.

Qatar's AI strategy sets SMEs on path to sectoral gains, long-term growth, says QDB report

Qatar Development Bank offers funding options, grants and technical assistance, QF provides initiatives and resources to support startups and QSTP offers services, such as office space, mentorship and funding opportunities. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Qatar are well-positioned for growth opportunities in high-potential industries backed by the government's massive investments in artificial intelligence (AI), Qatar Development Bank (QDB) stated in a report. Titled 'Qatar's Artificial Intelligence Sector SME Industry Series 2024', the report identified healthcare and financial services as the two sectors with the highest 'transformative potential' for AI-driven disruption. Similarly, the report identified manufacturing, e-commerce, and the technology, media and telecommunications industries as having 'promising potential.' Meanwhile, the report noted 'emerging potential' in energy, transport and logistics, and the automotive sector, where AI integration is expected to enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness. 'The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has spearheaded the development of the AI sector, promoting governmental support for both existing SMEs to enhance their capabilities and for new SMEs looking to establish themselves in the country. 'To conduct a thorough analysis on the disruption potential of AI across sectors in Qatar, several key factors were considered: AI strategic relevance, innovation adoption readiness, regulatory compliance and guidelines, automation impact on workforce, sectoral efficiency enhancement, and AI investment allocation,' the report explained. According to the report, SMEs 'are investing in AI capabilities to develop new solutions and achieve operational gains in innovative medical services,' citing companies like Ablelyf, Avey, MedivAI, and eyeTech. Placing second after the oil and gas sector, Qatar's financial services sector 'is a key contributor to the country's GDP,' the report noted. 'Efforts to further develop this sector, led by key entities like the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) and Qatar FinTech Hub (QFTH), align with Qatar's goal of creating a robust and competitive ecosystem,' the report stated. It also reported: 'The manufacturing sector presents promising opportunities for progress through the adoption of AI, especially with the rise of smart manufacturing enabled by Industry 4.0. AI can enhance efficiency, stabilise supply chains, forecast demand, reduce operational costs, and minimise waste via predictive maintenance. 'Qatar's consumer habits are shifting due to the growing trend of digitalisation, compelling traditional businesses to transition online to stay relevant and competitive in the evolving market. AI holds a promising potential to transform Qatar's e-commerce sector.' In the technology, media and telecommunications industries, 'AI applications in content personalisation, advertising optimisation, and creative production tools are forecast to open new revenue streams and enhance audience engagement,' the report stated. In the energy sector, SMEs could develop niche AI tools for predictive maintenance in renewable energy and oil and gas operations, the report stated, while the transport and logistics can adopt AI for route optimisation, demand forecasting, and autonomous delivery solutions. The report added that the automotive industry, though still nascent in Qatar, may see a gradual AI-driven transformation in quality control and production efficiency. © Gulf Times Newspaper 2025 Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc.
