Cubs, Mariners Reportedly Frontrunners For Diamondbacks Third Baseman After Yankees Trade
The New York Yankees made a deal with the Colorado Rockies for Ryan McMahon, taking them out of the bidding for Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez. MLB Insider Jon Heymen reported later that the leaders for the All-Star third baseman are the Chicago Cubs and the Seattle Mariners.

Photo byThe Cubs reportedly have been active in the Suárez sweepstakes and are in search of a third baseman and another power bat to add to their lineup with Seiya Suzuki. Chicago sounds like a great landing spot for Suárez as he would return to the National League Central and would get to terrorize the division once more.
The next team that Heyman mentioned as the main competitor to the Cubs for Suárez was the Mariners. Seattle just made a deal with the Diamondbacks Thursday night for Josh Naylor, and it might not be done yet.
The Mariners reportedly are still in on their former third baseman and would be the final piece to Seattle's puzzle. Pairing Suárez with catcher Cal Raleigh would be a deadly combo to pitch to in the late innings, and the Mariners just might make it happen.
After the Yankees settled for McMahon, the doors have opened for other teams to swoop in and try to make a deal for the All-Star slugger. Other teams are still in the mix, but to Heyman, it feels like it is down to the Mariners and the Cubs unless one of the other teams slides in with a deal the Diamondbacks can't turn down.
