Donnarumma seemed to indicate in a statement released on Tuesday that the decision for him to depart the Parc des Princes so soon after leading PSG to the UEFA Champions League trophy back in the spring, was not his own choice.
Which club makes more sense for Donnarumma — Man United or Man City?
At Manchester United, you currently have Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir. Onana made starts in 34 of 38 Premier League games last season (plus 13 more in the Europa League), but he also made a few high-profile mistakes early in the season that either dented his confidence, or that's just what he does as a goalkeeper. Either way, not a great situation heading into the new Premier League season, so it makes sense from United's perspective that they would want to upgrade and fix a years-long problem position with arguably the best goalkeeper of his generation (somehow, still just 26).
At Manchester City, it's Ederson, Stefan Ortega and recently signed James Trafford. Ederson missed a dozen PL games due to injury last season, his most since joining City in 2017. Their interest would seem to indicate that Ederson is actually going to leave after strong rumors linked him to an exit each of the last few transfer windows, or perhaps that Pep Guardiola is done riding that merry-go-round and made the decision himself. Donnarumma would be a massive upgrade in terms of shot-stopping (Donnarumma is rather inarguably the best in the world at it), but also a pretty serious downgrade as a passer (Ederson's claim as world's best, maybe of all time) and sweeper keeper. Does Pep think he can improve this part of Donnarumma's game, or does he have another tactical revolution in mind that asks something drastically different of the keeper?

Michael Penix Jr. involved in scuffle during Falcons joint practice with Titans
Tempers flared during Wednesday's joint practice between the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans and quarterback Michael Penix Jr. found himself in the middle of the scuffle. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] After Penix hit Ray-Ray McCloud III on a deep pass, Penix was exchanging pleasantries with Titans defenders when things went from heated to physical. The Falcons quarterback ended up in the middle of a pile as players from both teams ran over from the sidelines. 'They had a lot of words throughout practice, so I gave them my words and it just went a little bit too far," said a smiling Penix. There were no reported injuries from the incident and Penix was out on the field for the next series. Several instances of pushing and shoving occurred after that, but no punches appeared to have been thrown. "[Penix] started it on that one, on Team 1," said Titans linebacker Arden Key, via ESPN. "But again, those guys in Atlanta, they protected the quarterback, which they were supposed to do. O-line came in, did what they did, and we wasn't allowing that, but that's what they were supposed to do." Penix was appreciative of his teammates coming to his aid before anything escalated saying, "A lot of guys asked me if I was good, and it was good to know that those guys had my back." The second-year Falcons quarterback joked he blacked out during the fight and that he was "somebody else out there." Not one to initiate trash talk, Penix said he's not afraid to give it right back to opponent who thinks he doesn't have the ability to dish it out. "They probably looked at me as just the quarterback, [that] I wasn't that type of person," Penix said. "But I'm from Tampa. I'm from Dade City. ... There's a respect part about it. We're all playing, we're all competing at a high level, but when disrespect comes in, it's like, 'All right, this ain't football no more.'" Falcons head coach Raheem Morris has already announced that Penix will not play on Friday in the team's second preseason game against the Titans. Kirk Cousins will also likely sit with Easton Stick and Emory Jones seeing action.

'It's a mental thing': Alabama football LB Deontae Lawson talks mental recovery from ACL injury
Looking at Deontae Lawson's path back to the middle of Alabama football's defense, Kane Wommack really can't ask for much better. Lawson, a fifth-year linebacker out of Mobile, has "taken his game and leadership to another level," Wommack said, something Lawson's been able to do while battling his recovery process from a 2024 season-ending ACL injury remaining "ahead of every marker that we've had for him." "To be able to come out in fall camp, and we thought maybe we would limit some of his loads and all that," Wommack said. "We've really pushed him and he's handled it really well." Lawson's trick? To not think too much. Lawson said he's basically had the same load and the same routine throughout fall camp. As Alabama's opener against Florida State nears, he said he will "obviously do more reps to get ready," but that all he's worried about is "staying as fresh as I can and just trying to manage my load as much as I can." To Lawson, it's not about the knee and recovery alone. "It's a mental thing," Lawson said. "I just got to trust myself. That just takes time." Lawson had 76 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss and two sacks in 2024, adding four pass deflections. Against Oklahoma in November, he tore his ACL as he tried to chase down and tackle Sooners quarterback Jackson Arnold, who planted his foot to cut inside. As Lawson takes reps with the Alabama linebackers in fall practice, he's "just rolling." And Lawson's mindset toward his knee is "definitely getting better." "I'm not thinking about anything too much," Lawson said. "It's definitely a challenge, but something I definitely put to the side a little bit and just focus on what I can.
