Strictly Come Dancing star in hospital after horror during rehearsals

Daily Record3 days ago
A Strictly Come Dancing star was taken to hospital after suffering a fall during rehearsals for the upcoming series of the BBC show.
Strictly Come Dancing professional Nadiya Bychkova was rushed to hospital following a horrific tumble during training sessions.

The dancer was rehearsing in north London on Tuesday afternoon when she suffered a painful injury that left her in considerable discomfort. Paramedics were summoned over concerns about her back injury.

An insider revealed: "It looked pretty nasty and no-one was taking any chances. The Strictly crew rushed into action and she was stretchered out."

A source close to Strictly said: "As a precaution, following a fall during rehearsals, Nadiya was taken to hospital for checks and is receiving full support from medical and welfare teams. Rehearsals continue and the Strictly team are in close contact with Nadiya.", reports the Mirror.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 12:37pm on Tuesday 12 August to reports of an incident at Regent's Park Road, NW1. We sent an ambulance crew to the scene and treated one person before taking them to hospital".

Nadiya, 35, underwent several hours of medical examinations but it's believed she has now been discharged from hospital. The incident unfolds as fresh Strictly celebrities were revealed yesterday, featuring a YouTube personality, an EastEnders star and a Love Island champion amongst the initial group of participants.
Podcast presenter and YouTube personality George Clarke was confirmed as the sixth famous participant. Clarke, also known as George Clarkey, revealed: "Never thought I'd say this ... but I'm doing Strictly! Honestly, I've got no idea what I'm doing but I'm excited to get stuck in ... and potentially fall over a fair bit."
This follows EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal's announcement as a contestant during a live segment from Albert Square on ITV's Good Morning Britain (GMB).

She revealed that "being on Strictly is a dream that I held on to, with no proof that it would ever happen".
The remaining celebrities confirmed for the competition include Love Island champion Dani Dyer, Gladiators favourite Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Doctor Who star Alex Kingston and ex-footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

During her appearance on The One Show following her announcement, Dyer, daughter of actor Danny Dyer, expressed: "It's such a fun magical show - to be asked to do it is such an honour. I just can't wait to be able to wear (the costumes) - it's going to be so much fun."
Former Chelsea striker Hasselbaink commented: "I'm a father of only girls and Strictly is a part of our home life - I like the show. Let's have a go."
Kingston, who cut short her Italian holiday to chat with presenters Alex Scott and Roman Kemp, quipped: "I was super excited but now I'm terrified."
Aikines-Aryeetey, recognised as Nitro on the revamped Gladiators, took part in last year's Strictly Christmas Special and explained his Monday decision to return as "so nice I just had to do it twice". In July, the BBC revealed that two "incredible" new professional dancers, Alexis Warr from the US and Australian Julian Caillon, would be joining the show.
Presenters Daly and Winkleman will be back, alongside judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas. Strictly is set to return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this coming September.

3 stars who found love on Strictly Come Dancing and where they are now

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Strictly Come Dancing season is almost upon us, with the BBC having announced the celebrities taking part just this week. The likes of Gladiators legend Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (known to fans as Nitro), Love Island winner Dani Dyer, presenter Vicky Pattison and EastEnders' Balvinder Sopal will be making their way to the dancefloor this year. They'll be joined by model Ellie Goldstein, The Apprentice's Thomas Skinner and YouTube star George Clarke amongst other names. The celebrities will be following the likes of Tasha Ghouri, Pete Wicks, Sarah Hadland and JB Gill, who all took part last year, while Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell lifted the glitterball trophy. (Image: PA) Dianne will be returning alongside Amy Dowden, who had to pull out last year due to an injury following her cancer battle, while Gorka Marquez confirmed he will not have a celebrity partner. Meanwhile, two new professional dancers, Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon, are also joining the series, with the BBC yet to announce which celebrities will be partnered with which pros. In previous years, once training sessions are underway, Strictly has been flooded with rumours of the so-called Strictly curse, with several professional dancers having met their future partners on the show, while others like Ola and James Jordan, and Janette Manrara and Alijaz Skorjanec, are married to their fellow pros. Ahead of the beloved BBC competition returning to screens with a new batch of famous faces, we've taken a look back at some of the stars who found love on the show in the past, and where they are now. (Image: PA) Gorka Marquez and Gemma Atkinson Gorka and Gemma began dating in early 2018 after meeting on the 2017 series of Strictly, where she was partnered with Alijaz, and he and Alexandra Burke came runners-up. When rumours initially began swirling of their romance, Gemma claimed the couple may start dating 'once the series is over' before going public with their relationship months later. In February 2019, they confirmed the news they were expecting their first child together, and their family grew with their second child in 2023. (Image: Getty Images) The couple, who starred in their own reality series, got engaged on Valentine's Day in 2021, and often share sweet messages of support to each other on social media and snippets of their family and home life. Last year, Gorka spoke about the emotional toll of being separated from his family during Strictly season, saying he gets feelings of 'sadness, guilt, for going away for however long it is' and feels 'a sense of failure' for not being there. Meanwhile, talking about the 'balance' they have with family life at home, Gemma told Metro: 'I was on my own for a while before I met Gorka and so was Gorka. I was doing so well and he was doing so well, and that's what brought us together and it's kind of always stayed that way. I know Gorka doesn't need to be with me and I don't need to be with him. It's a choice which makes us value each other more.' (Image: Mike Marsland/WireImage) Di anne Buswell and Joe Sugg Reigning champion Dianne met her now-partner Joe on Strictly in 2018, when they were paired together. The Aussie dancer and YouTube star made it all the way to the final together, and confirmed their romance not long after when Joe penned on Instagram: "I may not have won the glitter ball, but I've won something a million times more special." The couple moved in together just months later and share snippets of their relationship on social media. (Image: PA) Earlier this year, Dianne hinted she was ready for the next step, when gesturing to her ring finger on a podcast, which left her Strictly partner Chris McCausland quipping: 'It's the one Joe's done nothing with.' "Exactly, we need to remind Joe what that finger holds. That finger is feeling very lonely, it needs something to weigh it down with,' Dianne replied. She had previously told The Mirror: "Joe and I don't really talk about that kind of thing. We're both so relaxed so we just play it by ear. We really enjoy each other's company so much and whatever happens, happens." (Image: Karwai Tang/WireImage) Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton Stacey and Kevin were partnered together on Strictly in the same year as Joe and Dianne, and went all the way to lift the glitterball trophy. At the time, she was dating her ex-partner but the couple split not long after and Stacey and Kevin announced that they were in a relationship in 2019 after months of speculation. In a BBC interview around the time, she explained how they were friends before anything turned romantic, saying: "Then you win together and you have Christmas and then January, you think, 'Oh where is he? Oh, I liked hanging out with him.' "So yeah, it was much later down the line for us. We were pals for a long time." (Image: Getty) The couple moved in together in 2020, and announced they were expecting their first child together in 2022, welcoming daughter Minnie the following year. Addressing marriage in an episode of Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over, Stacey had previously said: 'Kev and I have been together for two years. 'I don't think I want to get married. I think I'd be more interested in starting a family than getting married.' Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One and iPlayer in September.

Big Brother star reveals how much contestants earn and it's not what you think

A former Big Brother contestant has published an explosive book all about life inside - and after - the famous reality house, and reveals the surprising amount she earned for her appearance Former medical rep Narinder Kaur walked into the Big Brother house back in 2001 as a complete unknown. She walked out 29 days later as one of the biggest – and first – reality TV stars of her generation. Now, almost 25 years on, the mum-of-two has updated her bombshell 2007 book about life inside the famous house, including interviews with more than 30 other contestants (such as Anthony Hutton, Brian Dowling and Nadia Almada), as well as producers and psychologists. ‌ Chatting exclusively, the 52-year-old Good Morning Britain regular says she wants to show why reality stars deserve more 'sympathy', especially when their headline-making antics come back to haunt them years later. ‌ 'It's part exposé, part warning,' she says. 'People are still fascinated by the whole process. It's the idea of overnight fame, how it changes your life and affects everyone around you. I think the reaction to me on the show actually made me stronger. I was written off and had this burning desire to prove everybody wrong – it's still there. Big Brother has been around for so long now, but the real story is what happens after the house, and that's the story I wanted to tell.' It comes after one huge TV star looks completely unrecognisable as she reveals latest facelift. ‌ Strictly's Anton Du Beke shares heartbreak over wife's 'cruel and inexplicable' diagnosis Hi, Narinder! Did Big Brother change your life in the way you expected it to? I liken it to throwing a pebble in a pond. It's the ripple effect you don't expect. We were just normal, innocent people and yes, I wanted fame, but I had no idea the level of fame it would bring. You became an overnight household name and when you're just an ordinary person with a normal life before going in, it's mindblowing. Is it different for contestants nowadays? Probably. I think the level of reaction is different, and we've learnt some lessons. TV companies are more careful – as they should be – after the deaths of Love Island contestants. And the housemates are more aware of what they're getting themselves into. They can also go back to their normal lives now. ‌ The book has some shocking stories! Yes, and there were a few we couldn't put in because they were too shocking. To be honest, nothing surprised me. It's like modern-day gladiators – you're thrown into the lion's den for entertainment. And there's a lot of people who don't realise that we didn't get paid when I did the show. We got a statutory weekly payment of about £20. ‌ You spoke to Kinga Karolczak about the infamous 'bottle incident', didn't you? [Kinga had an X-rated moment with it] Yes, and out of everyone I interviewed, I felt the deepest sympathy for Kinga. She's a really sweet girl and, like we all did, she went on the show to become famous. To do that, you want to keep the producers happy by making a great show. So, you can make a snap decision that affects the rest of your life. How do you rebuild it after that? What do you say to people considering applying to the show? ‌ I tell them to think very carefully. It's going to change their lives, maybe in ways they don't want it to. There's also social media now, and no amount of duty of care can protect you from hate. But I could sit with a would-be contestant today and warn them, and I'd literally see them not listening – they're just thinking about all the glory. The duty of care has changed over the years though, hasn't it? Yes, I think contestants get support for about a year afterwards, when I went on, there was nothing afterwards. I didn't have a clue what was going on. I didn't know why newspapers were calling me. My book shows what can happen to people's mental health afterwards, something we really need to look at. ‌ Do you think reality TV has a future? Personally, I'd like to see it end, but I don't think it's going to. There's no getting around the fact some people will find it very difficult afterwards. I spoke to so many modern-day contestants who are all still going through the same process of disbelief about how their life has changed. ‌ Why did you want to write this book? To help people understand the show more, and have sympathy for the contestants. We're human, and there were times where we entertained people at the expense of our mental health. I wanted to bring a bit of humanity and insight to it all. The process can be brutal, and I wanted to give other contestants a voice. I really wanted to see how it affected people's lives. If you could turn back the clock, would you still audition for Big Brother? ‌ It sounds crazy, but yes. I'd probably play the game differently and fake it more. I think I was too real and I thought people would like that, but they didn't. Are there other shows you'd love to do? I've been emailing Loose Women for about 25 years because it's my dream show, but they haven't replied yet. Actually, I got one reply in lockdown. But I'm still hoping the dream might come true.

Strictly Come Dancing's Dianne Buswell's secret career she's kept hidden for years

Strictly Come Dancing's Dianne Buswell's secret career she's kept hidden for years Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell has had an impressive career on the BBC dance show, and she's also been dating a celebrity Strictly Come Dancing's Dianne Buswell (Image: Daily Mirror) Dianne Buswell's last Strictly Come Dancing partner Chris McCausland quipped she was "over the moon" to be matched with him as it guaranteed an early departure - yet the pair won the Glitterball Trophy. The partnership's routines captivated audiences throughout this series. ‌ The Australia-born professional has established herself as a viewer favourite since joining the BBC One dancing contest in 2017. Recognised for her effervescent character, striking locks and spectacular choreography, she's twice come within touching distance of claiming victory. ‌ Throughout her stint on the programme, Dianne has also discovered romance with one of her celebrity contestants, and the pair remain together. ‌ Early life growing up in Australia and secret career Dianne was born on May 6, 1989, hailing from Bunbury in Western Australia. She commenced dancing aged five following observations of her siblings performing in the dance studio, reports the Manchester Evening News. She subsequently participated in contests representing Western Australia across National and International Ballroom and Latin competitions, achieving four-time Amateur Australian Open finalist status. She and sibling Andrew claimed Western Australian Open Adult New Vogue championship titles in 2008 and 2010. Strictly Come Dancing's Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell (Image: BBC) Article continues below Aged 18, she was selected for Australian television programme So You Think You Can Dance, securing a position amongst the top 20 female contestants in Australia from thousands of hopefuls. This paved the way for Dianne to join the internationally acclaimed and critically lauded stage production Burn the Floor. Following a global tour with the production, she headed back to Australia to become a professional dancer on the television programme Dancing with the Stars. It wasn't long before Strictly Come Dancing beckoned. However, she pursued another career path alongside her dancing that numerous fans remain oblivious to. Prior to becoming a professional dancer, Dianne worked as a hairdresser in her homeland of Australia. ‌ She's said: "I had two dreams, dancing and becoming a hairdresser – I'm thrilled to have achieved both." During her appearance on Michael McIntyre's The Wheel on BBC One in 2022, she selected hair as her specialist topic. When questioned about her choice, she explained: "I was a hairdresser. I had my own salon and then I went to dancing." Strictly Come Dancing and week four curse Dianne's inaugural Strictly celebrity partner Reverend Richard Coles failed to impress the judging panel, departing the 2017 series in week three. ‌ Whilst she reached the grand final in 2018 alongside Joe Sugg, her journey wasn't quite as lengthy in 2019 with radio presenter Dev Griffin, as the pair faced elimination in week four. Dianne encountered identical misfortune with pop star Max George in 2020, and in 2021, she was partnered with comedy performer Robert Webb, who was forced to pull out in week four owing to health issues. In 2022, she partnered with radio DJ Tyler West, but their journey ended in Blackpool during week nine. In 2023, she reached the final with Eastenders actor Bobby Brazier, but they were pipped to the Glitterball Trophy by Coronation Street's Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola. Dianne and Chris won last year's Strictly (Image: PA) ‌ Dianne later expressed her gratitude for being paired with Bobby, stating that dancing with him had been a "win" for her. She shared on Instagram: "I used to be so obsessed with winning a sparkly trophy constantly thinking about that moment and what it would feel like. But what I have realised [is] dancing with this wonderful human is that the win and the sparkle is everywhere if you want it to be." so grateful"Last night, Bobby and I danced with so much joy, passion and emotion that my heart was bursting with happiness and pride and there was our win!". Struggles with eating disorder Dianne has previously spoken candidly about her struggle with an eating disorder that made her "terrified" to dance. Speaking on This Morning, she revealed her obsession over food and over-exercising. ‌ She admitted: "You wake up in the morning, and the first thing you think of is, what am I going to eat? How many calories are going to be in that? How much do I need to exercise to burn off those calories?"so grateful"It literally is like a planned thing in your mind that doesn't go away. And that's when you start to go, "Oh, this is a problem because I'm not thinking of anything else." She also discussed the pressure to maintain a certain weight as a dancer, and how the "weekly weigh-ins" at her dance company were utterly 'terrifying' for her as a young girl. She added: "I think it comes from when I was quite a young girl. And obviously growing up in the dance world, you're taught to look a certain way and you see all these other beautiful girls dancing. You kind of want to look like that and want to be winning like they are. ‌ "And they look a certain way so I feel like I should look that way. So I think it was it was something from a really young age." She managed to overcome her struggles and has shared her experiences in the book Eating Disorders Don't Discriminate, hoping to support others facing similar challenges. Finding love with Joe Sugg (Image: Joe Sugg/Instagram) ‌ Dianne and YouTuber Joe Sugg confirmed their relationship after being partners on the 2018 series of Strictly, where they reached the final. She told the Express that she never anticipated finding love on the show. She said: "I feel like all the stars aligned with Joe because we're just literally such similar people in so many ways. We're very different in ways too, but just our personalities just click so, so well. "I always think it's so weird how we met and I feel like everything was just aligned in the right place, right time for both of us. It was pretty special." ‌ She revealed they still dance together, although his memory of the routines is a bit hazy. She said: "When we're at home and a nice song comes on the radio or something, I definitely go like, 'Oh do you remember this Joe - that song that we danced to on the show?'"so grateful"And Joe will be like, 'I can't remember any of that now,' but then I'll re enact the whole dance and he'll be like, 'How do you do that?' So yeah, we still do have a joke around." Dianne moved into Joe's flat in 2019, with the content creator revealing that he gave her a card which read, 'So I have officially invited you to live in my humble abode with me. Do you want to move in with me? Yes or no. Circle your choice. All my love, Joseph. '" She accepted, telling fans on Instagram: "I said yes.... of course. Then I whispered to him do you realise how messy I can be!" ‌ The couple later relocated from London and now reside in a country house in Sussex. Father's cancer battle Strictly Come Dancing's Dianne Buswell and her dad, Mark (Image: Dianne Buswell Instagram) Dianne has confessed that her home in Australia sometimes feels very distant now that she's settled in the UK with Joe - but has said she loves life told the Express: "One weird thing, I suppose, is that I just go, 'Wow, I'm actually so far away from where I was born'. ‌ Then I think, 'Oh my god, like, of all the places I now am living! The UK is a full 24 hour plane ride away from my hometown. And obviously my family are all so far away from me. But I must say, I do love the UK and I do love all the people here and I love my job here so, yeah, I really enjoy the UK." Following the conclusion of Strictly's 2023 series, Dianne returned home to visit her family, particularly her father Mark, who was undergoing a six-month chemotherapy programme for an undisclosed cancer diagnosis. Dianne described him as her "hero", applauding his resilience and positive attitude throughout his treatment. She posted a compilation on Instagram showing him during his hospital stay, including the emotional moment he rang the bell to mark the completion of his treatment. ‌ She posted: "To my daddy you did it 6 months later and 12 rounds done. I am so so PROUD of you it's been a tough road but you have always done it with a smile and a thumbs up. I know you were scared and I know it was not easy but you have done it." During an earlier stage of Mark's cancer battle, she expressed the challenges of being thousands of miles from home, posting: "I wish so much I could be there right now and just cuddle you. You're my hero and you have made me realise we all have so much more strength then we think." During Strictly's 2024 launch programme, Dianne announced that her parents would be travelling from Australia to support her on the show in November. ‌ Why signature red hair is her 'comfort blanket' Dianne is recognised for her vibrant red locks and reveals she was captivated by hair styling during her explained she was "fascinated with colour" and would cut, style and dye her Barbie dolls' hair, sharing with the Press Association: "I actually remember for Easter most years, my mum would ask which Easter egg I wanted and I just really wanted hair colour, so mum would buy me a box hair colour instead of an Easter egg." Her path to the striking red hue she's now famous for didn't happen overnight, as she remembered: "I always liked an undertone of red but when I went bright red for a dance show, something clicked.I felt different – more fiery, more passionate. It changed the way I danced." She believes her striking colour has enabled her to distinguish herself in her dancing career, especially on Strictly: "It's given me that extra pizzazz and confidence. People recognise me as 'the red-haired girl', and it's become a part of my identity. ‌ "Maybe one day I'll go back to a more natural shade," she admits, "but right now, it's hard to part with the red. It's more than just a colour – it's my comfort blanket." She added: "I've had red hair for about ten years now. I'm a hairdresser by trade, though I haven't done it in a salon for many, many years. But when I was hairdressing, I literally had every single colour you could imagine. "I had blonde, I had black, I had brown, I had black with red stripes, I had black with blonde streaks – it was just like that hairdresser thing where you're just constantly changing the colour of your hair. Article continues below "And then, when I started dancing on stage, I went from jet black to honey blonde. And then I got bored – so I put a red dye over it one day and was like, 'I kind of like this', and it stuck. "Everyone was like, 'Oh my god – red really suits you and works with your eyes'. Then since I went on Strictly Come Dancing, I've been known as the girl with red hair.
