Former LSU football tight end Arik Gilbert will give it a go at his fourth school this fall. According to a report from CBS Sports and 247Sports, Gilbert is set to spend the 2025 season with Savannah State.
The former five-star and top-10 recruit participated in spring ball with Savannah State, but Gilbert has not seen game action since 2022.
Gilbert started his career at LSU in 2020, but left the program before the season was over. Gilbert then transferred to Georgia, where he won a national title but played sparingly. Following his time with the Dawgs, Gilbert went to Nebraska, but didn't see the field.
Gilbert signed with the Cornhuskers before spring ball in 2023 but faced off-field trouble with the Huskers, including being arrested on a burglary charge when police found him with over $1,600 worth of vape products in August 2023.
The best year of Gilbert's career came as a true freshman with the Tigers. He caught 35 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns but couldn't establish himself with the Bulldogs. Gilbert played 31 offensive snaps and caught two passes in 2022, his last game action.
Coming out of high school, Gilbert was considered one of the best tight end prospects in the history of the sport. Gilbert was the Gatorade Player of the Year and led Marietta High School to a Georgia 7-A state title. His talent was evident as a true freshman at LSU, and his future looked bright.
As Gilbert enters his "fifth" year of college football, he'll look to get back on the field at Savannah State.

LSU baseball's Steven Milam talks West Virginia win: 'I love the big moment' Steven Milam put LSU baseball on his back during the Baton Rouge Super Regional against West Virginia. Saturday and Sunday against the Mountaineers, the sophomore infielder made his plate appearances count. With a mix of power and patience at the plate, Milam finished the series with eight RBI and credits "getting back to the basics" for his success. "I love the big moment," Milam said. "I didn't play or help my team as much as I wanted to during the year and I had to step up to take pressure off the other guys. I feel like I've been able to do that." Milam put the Tigers up big with a grand slam in Saturday's fifth inning then stroked two doubles on Sunday. He finished with two walks in each game, bringing his on-base percentage to .395 for the year. "He went out there and competed his tail off and really did a good job," LSU first baseman Jared Jones said. "He was just himself this weekend and he did a great job for us and go the momentum in our dugout." The Tigers only hope Milam's success continues now that they claimed a berth in the College World Series and learned they will open against No. 3 seed Arkansas. "Our whole team is running great at bats one through nine," Milam said. "You can punch in 15 different guys, and we're going to beat you," Milam said. This wasn't Milam's first time appearing in a big moment. In the 2024 SEC Tournament, Milam delivered a big home run that was instrumental in LSU securing an NCAA Tournament appearance. Jake Brown hit a home run and had four RBIs, Steven Milam had two doubles and also drove in four runs and LSU beat West Virginia 12-5 on Sunday night to sweep the best-of-three Baton Rouge Super Regional. No. 6 seed LSU (48-15) clinched the program's 20th berth in the College World Series, where the Tigers will try to win their eighth national championship — all since 1991, the most recent in 2023. Derek Curiel led off the game with a double and scored to make it 1-0 when Brown reached on a fielder's choice in the first inning and the Tigers led the rest of the way. Anthony Eyanson (11-2) gave up four runs on five hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in five innings. Chris Stanfield, Curiel and Ethan Frey each drew a two-out walk to load the bases before Milam cleared the bases with a double off starter Jack Kartsonas (6-4) to spark a five-run second that made it 6-0. After Jace Rinehart hit a two-out solo shot and pinch-hitter Chase Swain drew a walk, Chase Shores came on a struck out Brodie Kresser swinging to end the eighth and the pitched a 1-2-3 ninth. Sam White hit a leadoff homer and Ben Lumsden added a two-run shot in the fourth before White added an RBI single in the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-4. Stanfield hit a two-RBI single to spark a six-run seventh, capped when Brown's two-run home run gave LSU an eight-run lead. West Virginia (44-16) set the program's single-season record for wins under first-year coach Steve Sabins. The Mountaineers advanced to their first-ever super regional last season.
