Alien director Ridley Scott issues expletive five-word response to new TV spin-off

Daily Mirror2 days ago
The director of the original 1979 masterpiece that inspired the new series Alien: Earth had a hilarious reaction during his visit to the set
Alien filmmaker Ridley Scott had a simple five-word reaction to seeing the set of the new FX series inspired by his 1979 masterpiece.

Created by Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley, the eight-part series serves as a prequel to the original film set in a dark vision of the future dominated by corporations.

Two years before the iconic escape from the USCSS Nostromo, another research vessel containing deadly alien lifeforms crash lands on Earth with devastating consequences.

While the precious cargo poses a threat to all humanity, a trillion-dollar company that has just perfected the next step in human evolution believes it could hold the key to even more knowledge.
Paying tribute to the acclaimed sci-fi horror that launched the franchise, Hawley and executive producer David W. Zucker adhered closely to the original set design for the Nostromo when crafting the show's new interstellar death trap, the Maginot.

Previewing the series at Alien: Earth's London premiere, cast member Babou Ceesay recalled: 'It was incredible.
'You walk into this huge studio and there's the set of the Maginot but it just felt like a spaceship. And it also feels like the Nostromo.
'Even Noah, all of us, 100 people, became children immediately. Clicking buttons, trying to take pictures, looking at things we'd never seen before.'

Making his experience even more thrilling, Ceesay's very first day filming was for a scene in which his character Morrow speaks to Mother, the iconic ship computer represented by a room of glowing lights.
Furthermore, despite launching the franchise himself in the 1970s and returning to the Alien universe multiple times over the year, Scott was just as awestruck by the prequel series' level of craft.
Zucker relayed his thoughts: 'Ridley's reaction was no different than theirs when he first saw it.

'Because it was based on his set. What Noah and his team of production designers were able to recreate, for the purposes of landing an audience in the original analogue aesthetic of his was extraordinary.
'I won't say what his actual words were…' he teased, knowing the audience can fill in the blanks.

However, he eventually relented, confirming: 'We did get the actual plans [of his set] from the Disney vault. Alright, he said 'F*** me, that's my set!''
A stirring endorsement from the blockbuster director suggests die-hard Alien fans should be more than satisfied with FX's thrilling reimagining.

He has also previously praised Hawley's direction in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter: 'I've created the pace visually for a while. I know exactly what I've done and how it has been influential, because I keep seeing it — 'Oh, there's me … there's me…'
'It was annoying initially, but now it's amusing and healthy. Like [Hawley] has gone down that route and definitely respected the original Alien. And from that, I can't hope for anything more other than to keep it alive.
'I don't care what the platform is. I'm keen to go home and watch it. All these subjects are embalmed forever and that's very healthy.'
Alien: Earth premieres Wednesday, 13th August on Disney+.
For a limited time only, witness the first stage of the life cycle of the Xenomorph up close with a thrilling new display at London's Natural History Museum.
Visitors can touch real pieces of the solar system at the Museum's blockbuster exhibition, Space: Could Life Exist Beyond Earth?, and discover more about one of pop culture's most iconic and frightening creatures just by the entrance until Friday, 22nd August.

Sabrina Carpenter reacts to being on title track for Taylor Swift's new album after idolizing her as a child

Sabrina Carpenter offered her reaction to being a feature on the titular track for Taylor Swift 's upcoming album The Life Of A Showgirl. The 26-year-old Espresso songstress - who had idolized the Grammy winner as a child - jumped to her Instagram stories on Wednesday to express her excitement over being including on Taylor's 12th studio album. Taylor sent fans into a frenzy this week when she announced that new music was on the way on her boyfriend Travis Kelce 's New Heights podcast. She later unveiled the very sexy cover art for the album - which is slated to be released later this year on October 3. Taylor also gave fans a glimpse at the track list and revealed that Sabrina features on the titular song. The former Disney channel star reposted an image of the 12 tracks and penned, 'THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL OCTOBER 3. i know someone who's freaking out and it's me.' She shared another slide that included a photo of the pair performing on stage during Taylor's Eras Tour. Lastly, Sabrina further supported her close pal by uploading another accompanying album image and wrote, 'must also point out that.' The Bad Blood singer could be seen wearing a flashy showgirl costume that comprised of a diamond-encrusted bralette top and matching headpiece. The outfit also contained fuzzy embellishments for a final touch. Before Sabrina developed a friendly bond with Taylor, she was first a big fan of the performer. Back in 2009, the Girl Meets World actress uploaded her first YouTube video which showed her covering Taylor's song Picture To Burn. A fan account of the Please Please Please songstress shared a post on X on Wednesday that showed Sabrina's cover of Taylor's 2006 track alongside the announcement that she will feature on Taylor's upcoming album. Over the years, the two music artists have been spotted hanging out at star-studded events and grabbing dinner together. During an interview with Rolling Stone in 2023, Sabrina gushed about Taylor and said, 'Watching her is a masterclass in itself.' She added, 'Obviously, she's very good with words. So I feel a lot more comfortable that I'm going into a situation with someone that I admire so much and I'm just gonna like study.' That same year, Sabrina opened for Taylor during the singer's sold-out Eras Tour and previously called the moment 'a dream come true.' In February 2024, the Espresso hitmaker joined Taylor on stage in Sydney, Australia as they performed together. They reunited on stage once again later that same year in New Orleans. Taylor has also shared her public support for Sabrina and encouraged fans to listen to the singer's Short n' Sweet album which dropped last year. Taylor received the same support from Sabrina after she unveiled the cover for her highly-anticipated new album The Life Of A Showgirl. The 14-time Grammy Award-winning singer first dropped the news about her 12th studio album earlier this week while teasing her upcoming appearance on her boyfriend's New Heights podcast. And on Wednesday, just minutes after her New Heights episode premiered, Taylor revealed the official album cover for The Life Of A Showgirl, which is currently available for preorder on her website. She confirmed that the album will be released on October 3 - just over a year and a half after the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department. Taylor also revealed the album's official 12-song track list, confirming the inclusion of the song, Ruin The Friendship, which fans are convinced is a Blake Lively diss track. 'And, baby, that's show business for you. New album The Life of a Showgirl. Out October 3 ❤️‍,' Swift tweeted to fans on X (formerly Twitter). Proving to be her sexiest album cover yet, Taylor flashes the flesh in a skimpy green jeweled bodysuit while submerged in water in what appeared to be a bathtub. The album's cover art has a collage-like look as cropped, close-up photos of Taylor's bedazzled body are used as a border. 'The Life Of A Showgirl' is spelled out in glittery orange lettering. The busty starlet stares stoically at the camera in the striking image captured by famed photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, who she last worked with on the album artwork for her 2017 album Reputation. 'I loved what they did with those photos, so I called them up for [this album],' she shared on the New Heights podcast. 'I am so happy with the way the photos came out with this one.' She said she wanted to go 'all out' on the imagery for The Life Of A Showgirl because she is 'so proud' of the music. 'This is a full send. I care about this record more than I can even overstate.' Taylor revealed that the album cover is meant to depict what the 'end of [her] night' looks like on tour. 'My day ends with me in a bathtub - not usually in a bedazzled dress - but we try to keep it decent,' she joked. 'I wanted to glamorize all the different aspects of how [the Eras Tour] felt and [the The Life Of A Showgirl cover] is how that felt at the end of the night.' Taylor said she chose that image because it best represents the album, which centers around the feelings and experiences in her 'offstage' life. As revealed by Swift, the album's song titles are: The Fate Of Ophelia, Elizabeth Taylor, Opalite, Father Figure, Eldest Daughter, Ruin The Friendship, Actually Romantic, Wi$h Li$t, Wood, CANCELLED!, Honey and The Life Of A Showgirl. According to Swift's website, there are a total of four deluxe album variants that fans can purchase - all of which feature different cover photos of Swift and cost $17.99. A $29.99 vinyl, a $12.99 CD with a poster and a $19.99 cassette tape featuring the album's official album cover are also available for purchase. Other artwork for the album, all shot by Alas and Piggott, was also shared with fans on Wednesday. The Life Of A Showgirl marks a major musical departure for Taylor as it is her first album in over a decade that will not feature production by her go-to collaborator and co-songwriter, Jack Antonoff. Instead, she confirmed she co-produced her new album with pop music heavyweights, Max Martin and Shellback. Shortly before Max's involvement was confirmed, Taylor's eagle-eyed fans noticed that every song on the star's latest Spotify playlist, which included choice cuts from 1989, Reputation and Red, had been produced by Max. Max used to be a major collaborator with Taylor, but the two haven't worked together since recording music for Reputation, and Max was notably absent from the sessions to rerecord songs he had previously worked on with Taylor. During her appearance on the New Heights podcast on Wednesday, Taylor revealed that she recorded the new album while on her record-breaking Eras Tour, which ran from March 2023 to December 2024. The superstar said she made frequent trips to Sweden to work with producer Max Martin during her rare days off from performing around the globe. 'I would do like three shows in a row. I'd have three days off. I'd fly to Sweden, go back to the tour, and was actually working on this. 'I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating,' she explained. Travis, who was seated beside Taylor during the interview with his co-host and brother Jason Kelce, added: 'She was literally living the life of a showgirl.' 'That's why I called [the album] that. Nailed it,' the singer quipped as she playfully patted her boyfriend on the shoulder. Taylor read the entire 12-song track list for The Life Of A Showgirl aloud for listeners before revealing the 'significance' behind the era's orange color scheme and the 'theme' of the album.

Tulisa Contostavlos' new life in country with secret 'soul family' after boyfriend disaster

There was a time when N'Dubz star Tulisa Contostavlos was rarely out of the headlines. Now, reflecting on her turbulent years in her new book Judgement: Love, Trials, and Tribulations, she reveals that life today looks very different Much of Tulisa Contostavlos 's life has been spent in the spotlight. From her early days with N-Dubz, to her stint as an X Factor judge, her solo career, her tumultuous love life, I'm A Celebrity appearance, and the famous collapse of her drug trial, the 37-year-old has consistently made headlines. ‌ But more recently, she has opted for a different approach. Now Tulisa prioritises her happiness and wellbeing - and that has meant some dramatic changes. ‌ The star has shared a detailed update on her new life in her new book, Judgement: Love, Trials, and Tribulations. She reveals that she has relocated to Cheshire in order to be close to her best friend Michelle McKenna, her husband Daniel and their daughter Nevaeh - Tulisa's goddaughter. ‌ She also prioritises time with another best friend Percy, who travels with her son to see Tulisa on the weekends - and it is this tightknit clan that means the most. She writes: "Through our bond, Percy has in turn become very close with Michelle and Dan, and together we have become the fantastic four. Or as I like to call us, the soul family. True love is a beautiful thing; I feel extremely blessed to have it and I cherish it dearly. I have become the kind of person that would do anything for their soul family, as they would for me." According to Tulisa, she is much more of an introvert these days, who embraces her quiet life in the country - bar the occasional blowout or fun holiday. Instead she says she is focused on her fitness, health, and mental wellbeing, which includes meditation, structure and routine. For the past year, she has been living in her dream home, which she spent six months doing up, in a quiet countrified area in the middle of nowhere. "Honestly, I'm a bit of nerd in my spare time," she writes. "I've gone back to being an avid reader like I was in my teens. I'm obsessed with Ancient History and Ancient Alien theories. I'm currently on my fifth read of The Emerald Tablets of Thoth the Atlantean. I watch all things fantasy, play PlayStation and of course I still love to cook, especially in my new kitchen." ‌ And what about her love life? According to the star it's been "chaotic enough to write another ten books". She had an on-off relationship with a boyfriend named Jacob which lasted three years, and another with an older man she calls *Miles. After their breakup, she embarked on a three-year celibacy stint before reconciling with another ex named *Liam - and they even spent Christmas 2024 together. But it wasn't to be and she once again briefly reconnected with Miles. Cut to present day, and Tulisa says she is forcing herself to date again in the hopes of a fresh start. But it's not a process she enjoys. "I've played the bachelorette for most of my life and at times it's been a lot of fun, but I'm now 36 with 37 fast approaching and all the games haven't brought me any real happiness, only temporary fleeting kicks of excitement and thrills," she writes. "I know I'm tired of it all, but I am also still scared shitless of settling down. I decided to freeze my eggs to take the pressure off and bide my time if needs be. All I know for sure is that everything I've been through has left deep scars, but I've also become a different person and it's time for a change. I'd say I'm finally open to finding someone to heal and grow with, and dare I say 'settle down'."
