NYT ‘Connections' Hints For Tuesday, July 1: Clues And Answers For Today's Game
Find the links between the words to win today's game of Connections.
Each day's game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before we get to today's Connections hints and answers, here are Monday's:
Hey there, Connectors! I hope your week is off to a terrific start.
How are we already halfway through 2025 already? The passage of time is a wild, scary thing (I mean, I started a newsletter that's very broadly about that topic). I hope summer/winter is off to a great start for you.
I had a very nice time at the weekend celebrating the birthday of my partner's kid, who turned five. When I was young, I was always envious of kids who had a summer birthday. I was born in December, and one thing I've always wanted to have on my birthday was a barbecue. I suppose I could just do it in the cold. Or maybe I'll just have to celebrate the occasion in New Zealand sometime.
Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It's a fun hangout spot, and you're more than welcome to hang out with us.
Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don't look at the comments or Twitter much. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes.
Today's NYT Connections hints and answers for Tuesday, July 1 are coming right up.
How To Play Connections
Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT's website or Games app.
You're presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.
There's only one solution for each puzzle, and you'll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.
Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you're incorrect, you'll lose a life. If you're close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you're one word away from getting it right, but you'll still need to figure out which one to swap.
If you make four mistakes, it's game over. Let's make sure that doesn't happen with the help of some hints, and, if you're really struggling, today's Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.
If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication's Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.
Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find our hints Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query.

Today's Connections answers are...
Being a refined gentleman (I use beard oil, like, once every six months), the blues were immediately obvious to me. I thought they would be the greens at most, so go figure!
But to look dapper, grooming is important. So the greens gelled together easily. Much like one's hair when gel is applied.
After that, the grid bunched NICK, PALM and POCKET together. PINCH was the clear pairing for the yellows. That left the purples for the win and I am pleased to say I did figure out that connection before clicking on all four words and then Submit (there's gotta be a faster way to do that for the last group, please, NYT?).
A perfect game for the first day of July brings my current streak up to 126 wins. Here's my grid for today:

P.S. I don't know how I managed to train my YouTube algorithm to work so well, but it's always serving up interesting stuff. I've spent some time over the last week or so watching the vlog of a 22-year-old trucker who drives across the US.
It's delightfully low-key and a fun watch. The editing is spot on and the music selections are excellent. The timelapse of the journeys seem to draw inspiration from the slow TV phenomenon (though, of course, they're sped up here). I'm enjoying 2.06am's YouTube channel quite a bit:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
Please follow my blog for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot! Sharing this column with other people who play Connections would be appreciated too. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes.

Lorde Reveals Which ‘Virgin' Song ‘Kicked My A–‘ to Write & Seemingly Teases Deluxe Tracks
Lorde's new album Virgin is chock-full of the rawest, most vulnerable songs she's ever written. And in a post celebrating the project three days after its release, the pop star revealed which of those tracks was by far the most difficult to create (while also appearing to tease a deluxe version of the album). Sharing the Virgin album cover via Instagram on Monday (June 30), Lorde asked fans to comment their favorite songs on the track list before sharing 'some L4 facts' in list form. For instance, the singer writes that 'David' was the first song she started but one of the last ones she finished, while the last song she started was 'Clearblue.' More from Billboard Lorde's 'Virgin': All 11 Tracks Ranked Gavin Adcock Blasts Beyoncé's 'Cowboy Carter' During Concert Rant: 'That Sh- Ain't Country Music' Ja Rule Roasts Longtime Enemy 50 Cent Over Concert Video: 'Ain't Nobody Coming to See You' The track that challenged her most, however, was 'Favourite Daughter,' according to the post. 'Hardest song was FD, to write, to produce, to sing,' Lorde shared in her caption. 'Kicked my a–.' It's easy to see why 'Favourite Daughter' might have given Lorde a run for her money. Placed fifth on the Virgin tracklist, it cuts right to the heart of the Grammy winner's complicated relationship with her mother, poet Sonja Yelich. 'Panic attack just to be your favorite daughter,' Lorde sings on the Jim-E Stack-produced anthem. 'Everywhere I run, I'm always running to ya/ Breaking my back to carry the weight of your heart.' Also in her post, the musician talked about sampling Dexta Daps' 'Morning Love' in 'Current Affairs' after dreaming about doing so for eight years — 'It's so sexy and murky to me, and I loved the contrast w the really organic fragile guitar stuff,' she wrote — and opened up about experiencing 'constant insomnia' while making Virgin. 'I wrote most of the ['Favourite Daughter'] lyrics, ['Current Affairs'] first verse, 'Clearblue' and 'David' second verse right before dawn,' Lorde revealed. But one fact that will be sure to catch fans' eyes in particular is that, according to Lorde, she scrapped a song from the tracklist 'last minute' — but it might just surface someday. 'I thought it diluted the vision!' the New Zealand native wrote of the cut track. 'One of my absolute favs that I wrote with Fabi.' She then hinted, 'Couple really good B sides knocking around actually.' Released June 27, Virgin marks Lorde's first full-length in four years. Despite debuting more than a decade ago, the star had only released three albums prior to the new LP: Pure Heroine (2013), Melodrama (2017) and Solar Power (2021). All three of those projects reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200. Lorde is now gearing up to embark on her Ultrasound World Tour in support of Virgin, kicking off Sept. 17 in Texas. In her post, the musician teased: 'Love u, thank u so much for listening. Got a show to cook now.' See Lorde's post below. Either way, the crescent moon and camping suggest that being one with nature will give your perspective on your life. You walk this path alone, Sagittarius. No matter where you go or what you do, you will notice crescent moons, lone wolves, and howling this summer. Your summertime omens encourage you to take time for yourself. As much as you may want to be part of a pack, the lone wolf and crescent moon imply you're better off by yourself right now. Spending your summer solo might be the best thing you could do. Stay golden, Capricorn. This summer's energy will test you, which is why your omens are gold hearts and double hearts. Gold hearts will remind you to keep your heart of gold even when you don't want to. You may have to work harder to combat negativity, jealousy, and more to keep your heart golden. Each situation will only reinforce how important it is to surround yourself with people who love and cherish you. Double hearts will pop up to help you feel open to accepting and receiving love. Each heart-shaped omen signifies that you're not alone. You're loved and wanted, which will be evident all summer long. Your heart isn't for just any old person. Be patient; the right person with the right key will eventually find you. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, Pisces. Game tokens and gold coins will find you all summer long. At first, you may see that as a sign to take a chance. Maybe your odds aren't so bad, so you could feel optimistic about winning some kind of prize. But you may strike out the more you gamble by playing the game. Game tokens and gold coins will signify what you choose to take a risk on. Not all games are worth playing, so keep your tokens and coins close to your chest. You'll know when to try your hand when the right opportunity presents itself.
