Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has been drafted by the Miami Dolphins. The Southlake, TX native was taken 231st in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Ewers was the starting QB at Texas for three years, leading UT to back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian thanks injuries cost Ewers in the draft.
'His quick release, his ability to make the short to intermediate throws is uncanny. I mean, this guy throws darts. The ball comes out of his hands so effortlessly, so precise and it's literally on point every single time, right? I give him credit — he worked at his craft, too. He was a shotgun, little more of an Air Raid-type quarterback that came into the program and really worked on the nuances, the play-action pass, the RPO game, the deep-ball shots. And I we saw him grow, not only physically, but I think mentally and emotionally, he turned into a great leader for us. So somebody is going to get a really good player that may be a little undervalued because of some of some of the injuries,' Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said in an appearance on Chris Simms' podcast.
Ewers played in 35 games, leading the Longhorns to 27 wins. Over the past two seasons, he compiled a 21-4 record as a starter, the best two-year stretch for a Texas quarterback since Colt McCoy's 25-2 run in 2008-09. Ewers holds the longest active streak in the FBS with 26 consecutive games throwing a touchdown, the second-longest in Texas history behind McCoy's program record of 29.
A semifinalist for the 2024 Walter Camp Player of the Year, Maxwell Award, and Davey O'Brien Award, Ewers was also a top-10 finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. He earned 2023 AP All-Big 12 Second Team honors and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2023 Big 12 Championship Game.
Ewers transferred to Texas from Ohio State in January 2022. To prepare for the NFL Draft, Ewers hired former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.

Jon Gruden wins Nevada Supreme Court arbitration appeal against NFL and Roger Goodell
Jon Gruden won a skirmish Monday in his civil lawsuit against the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell that has been plodding through a state court for four years. The Nevada Supreme Court determined in a 5-2 ruling that Gruden was not required by the NFL to participate in arbitration overseen by Goodell, who is a defendant in the lawsuit alleging that a 'malicious and orchestrated campaign' was used to destroy Gruden's coaching career by leaking offensive emails he had sent years earlier. The court said that the NFL attempt to force Gruden into arbitration was "unconscionable and does not apply to Gruden as a former employee." Gruden's resignation as coach of the Las Vegas Raiders in October 2021 made him exempt from a provision in the NFL Constitution mandating arbitration, the court ruled. "If the NFL Constitution were to bind former employees, the Commissioner could essentially pick and choose which disputes to arbitrate," the ruling stated. The decision appears to clear the way for Gruden's lawsuit to proceed. The NFL can appeal to the United States Supreme Court but so far has declined to comment. Read more: Jon Gruden emails were part of June court filing by WFT owner Dan Snyder "We're very pleased with the Nevada Supreme Court's decision, not just for Coach Gruden but for all employees facing an employer's unfair arbitration process," Gruden attorney Adam Hosmer-Henner said in a statement. "This victory further validates Coach Gruden's reputation, and it clears the way to swiftly bringing him full justice and holding the NFL accountable." Goodell and the NFL have denied leaking the emails, which were published by the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. 'In contrast to the formalities of the Washington Football Team investigation, Defendants' treatment of Gruden was a Soviet-style character assassination,' the lawsuit alleged. 'There was no warning and no process. Defendants held the emails for months until they were leaked to the national media in the middle of the Raiders' season in order to cause maximum damage to Gruden.' Gruden's email correspondence with former Washington Commanders executive Bruce Allen occurred from 2011 to 2018 when Gruden was a color analyst for ESPN's "Monday Night Football" and included racist, misogynistic and homophobic comments. The emails came to light during a league investigation into the workplace culture of the Washington team and owner Dan Snyder. Read more: Want to attend 2026 World Cup games for free? FIFA needs 65,000 volunteers "It's ridiculous the league thought they could cherry-pick emails from years ago, when I wasn't even a coach and try to end my career," Gruden said in a statement to ESPN two years ago. "At a minimum, I deserved the opportunity to respond and receive some due process." The Nevada Supreme Court agreed, reconsidering the findings of a smaller panel of the court that made a 2-1 decision more than a year ago to dismiss Gruden's lawsuit. That ruling came after a district judge in 2022 rejected the NFL's bid to dismiss the lawsuit outright or to order arbitration overseen by Goodell. Nevada Supreme Court justices Kristina Pickering and Elissa Cadish dissented from the ruling Monday, suggesting that Gruden should have been aware of language in his contract stipulating arbitration. 'As a former Super Bowl champion coach and long-time media personality signing the most lucrative NFL coaching contract in history, while being represented by one of the country's leading sports agents, Gruden was the very definition of a sophisticated party,' Pickering wrote. 'Though Gruden could not negotiate the terms of the NFL Constitution, he had the ability to negotiate the contract as a whole — such as for more pay, a longer contract, added control over team decisions, or its other terms." Fantasy Football Video: Is Dak back? — Why the Cowboys QB could be a mid-round steal in your draft
It feels preemptive to deem a player "back" before the season even starts. But the hype train surrounding Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and the fantasy football community can't go overlooked any longer. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The Yahoo Fantasy Forecast Podcast discussed how Prescott appears to be a steal in the middle of fantasy football drafts and why you should also be targeting the rest of the Cowboys offense as well. Yahoo's Matt Harmon was joined by Establish the Run's John Daigle to talk QBs and Prescott immediately was mentioned as a great value pick given what we're expecting from this Dallas passing game in 2025. Last season, Prescott missed more than half the season, finishing with 1,978 passing yards, 11 TDs and 8 INTs over eight games before undergoing season-ending surgery to repair a torn hamstring. Daigle points out that it wasn't too long ago when Prescott was among the elite QBs in fantasy football — and in the NFL overall. In 2023, Prescott had his best NFL season, finishing second in MVP voting behind Lamar Jackson while posting 4,516 yards with 36 TDs (led the NFL) and nine INTs. That Cowboys offense featured CeeDee Lamb, Tony Pollard and not much else (Michael Gallup, Jake Ferguson and Brandin Cooks were the other receivers). When you look at the Cowboys offense going into 2025, there appears to be more depth at receiver with the presence of George Pickens, a complementary piece the team hasn't had next to Lamb. Daigle is making sure he targets not only Lamb over a WR like Justin Jefferson, but also Pickens later in the draft. Right now, Dak ranks as the QB10 in Yahoo's consensus rankings at the position for the 2025 NFL season. Prescott is also coming in at an ADP of 100.5 on average, also around the QB10 range. That means you can snag Prescott around the eighth round in most 12-team formats. If you're trying to wait on QB in your fantasy football draft, targeting Dak isn't the worst idea if the Cowboys are going to chuck all season.

Travis Kelce vows to return to elite level in 2025: 'These past two years haven't been to my standard'
By most standards, the Kansas City Chiefs had a tremendous season in 2024. The team went 15-2, earned the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs and rode that success all the way to the Super Bowl. Under the surface, though, there were signs the team's excellence was overstated. The Chiefs barely won a number of close games during the regular season and, despite being the best player in football, Patrick Mahomes failed to put up MVP numbers despite the team trying to give him some new weapons. All of that seemed to get exposed in the Super Bowl, where the Chiefs were trounced 40-22 by the Philadelphia Eagles. Star tight end Travis Kelce knows he was part of that problem. After a decade of dominance, Kelce has seen his numbers decline in recent years. With the Chiefs' pass catchers plagued by injuries last season, Kelce should have turned in a monster year. Instead, he finished with his lowest yardage and touchdown total since his rookie season, when he played in one game. His own struggles, combined with the Super Bowl loss, weighed heavy on Kelce, who told GQ he's committed to getting back to an elite level in 2025. 'Win a Super Bowl is the only goal,' Kelce says. 'It's the only goal. It's every goal.' It's been nearly four months since that defeat, and Kelce is still hard on himself about it. 'I think it might have slipped a little bit because I did have a little bit more focus in trying to set myself up. And opportunities came up where I was excited to venture into a new world of acting and being an entertainer,' he says. 'I don't say this as 'I shouldn't have done it.' I'm just saying that my work ethic is such that I have so much pride in how I do things that I never want the product to tail off, and I feel like these past two years haven't been to my standard.' He adds, 'I just have such a motivation to show up this year for my guys.' Kelce admitted he might have "slipped a little bit" due to focusing on things outside football. Kelce has been involved in quite a bit in the entertainment realm in recent years. His "New Heights" podcast with his brother took off and is among the most popular sports podcasts around, he took on an acting role on "Grotesquerie" and hosted "Saturday Night Live." During that period, he also started dating pop superstar Taylor Swift, who he discussed in the GQ profile. Kelce's love and admiration for Swift come through in the piece, and Kelce also talks about how he got Swift to really love football. 'I sort of made her a football fan,' Kelce says. 'She is the most engulfed fan now. She knows what the injury reports look like. She understands what special situations are, third and short—all these things because she just naturally loves to hear about my job.' Whether Kelce is able to return to an elite level at his job remains to be seen. He's already put himself among the best tight ends to ever play the game and is easily one of the best football players of his era. But Kelce will turn 36 during the 2025 NFL season, and it's possible his recent decline is more related to age than commitment. Given Kelce's greatness, though, it's foolish to bet against him turning in at least one more phenomenal season before he hangs up his cleats. It certainly sounds like he's working hard to make that a reality.
