Duo, a mutated green owl and the mascot for language-learning platform Duolingo, had a reputation for being a maladjusted psycho online – until Duolingo CEO Luis von Ahn declared earlier this summer that the company was "going to be AI-first" and sucked the fun from it. But there are few video games better suited to rotten corporate horror than Resident Evil, so it seems developer Capcom has (jokingly) given Duo a second chance at life by employing him as a biological weapon.
An Automaton spot and translation tells us the official Resident Evil brand account on Twitter recently posted an image of an abnormally muscular Duo edited into the Resident Evil remake, declaring him "Our new biological weapon. Go. Spread language learning to the world."
The Japanese Duolingo account responded with an image of buff Duo in the Resident Evil 2 remake, wearing villain Mr. X's infected fedora atop its unusually large head. He looms behind a sullen Leon Kennedy, whom he asks, according to Automaton's translation, "Leon, you haven't done today's lesson, right?"
Capcom appears to confirm Leon's delinquency with an image of Leon slowly trudging his way through a Spanish lesson on his iPhone – ideally, it will help him communicate with the decaying villagers in Resident Evil 4.
But Duo is not appeased by Leon's effort. In response, he stands in front of the Raccoon City police station (how does he know where Leon works?) and vows to chase Leon "anywhere until everyone can play Resident Evil in English."
That's a cute joke, Duo. Now, show us your carbon footprint!
I've been playing Resident Evil games for 25 years – Resident Evil Requiem doesn't need Leon Kennedy.

Zach Cregger Explains His ‘Resident Evil' Is 'A Different Story' But 'A Love Letter To The Games'

As Zach Cregger prepares to bring Resident Evil to the big screen once again, he's venturing outside the canon for a new story. The director, who is rebooting the franchise for Sony, recently explained that although he's 'not breaking the rules of the games,' the movie depicts a story 'outside of the characters of the games.' More from Deadline Sony Boards Zach Cregger's 'Resident Evil', Sets Fall 2026 Release Date Austin Abrams In Zach Cregger's Sights For 'Resident Evil' At Sony 'Weapons' Director Reveals Why Pedro Pascal Was Not Cast In Josh Brolin's Role 'I am the biggest worshiper of the games, so I'm telling a story that is a love letter to the games and follows the rules of the games,' he told Inverse. 'It is obedient to the lore of the games, it's just a different story,' added Cregger. 'I'm not going to tell Leon's story, because Leon's story is told in the games. [Fans] already have that.' At CinemaCon in March, Cregger echoed teased that his adaptation is 'built in the spirit of those games and follows one central protagonist from point A to point B, as they descend deeper into hell.' Co-written with Shay Hatten, Cregger's Resident Evil landed at Sony in March. Meanwhile, Austin Abrams is in talks to star in the reboot. 'I've been a rabid fan of these games for decades, and to be able to bring this amazing title to life is a true honor,' he told Deadline at the time. Based on the 1996 Capcom video game, Resident Evil has been adapted into seven movies since 2002, including a 2021 reboot, surpassing $1.2 billion at the box office. In 2022, Netflix canceled its Resident Evil series after one season. Elon Musk Turns His AI Chatbot Into a Male Fantasy Engine

Elon Musk has always been the biggest hype man for his own companies. Whether it's Tesla, SpaceX, or X (formerly Twitter), the world's richest man personally takes to social media to promote new features, products, and ideas. His AI venture, xAI, is no exception. Over the past week, Musk has been flooding X with posts promoting Grok Imagine, the new image-and-video-generation feature in SuperGrok, the most advanced version of xAI's Grok chatbot. But the images Musk chooses to showcase say as much about the intended audience as they do about the technology. Instead of highlighting landscapes, futuristic tech concepts, or abstract art, Musk's posts overwhelmingly feature sexualized AI-generated women: scantily clad warriors, lingerie models, leather-clad dominatrices, and bikini-clad beachgoers. Many are posed in ways that lean on well-worn male fantasies: dominance and submission, BDSM aesthetics, and the 'vulnerable beauty' trope. Video created by Grok Imagine! — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 7, 2025Musk's choices aren't random. He's a cult figure in parts of the manosphere, the online ecosystem of male influencers and communities that promote traditional or exaggerated masculine ideals. In that world, sexualized imagery, fantasy dominance, and 'idealized' femininity are cultural currency. By repeatedly showcasing these types of AI women, Musk appears to be speaking directly to that audience. This isn't the first time AI tools have been criticized for reflecting the biases of their creators or promoters. But in the high-stakes AI race, Musk and xAI seem comfortable making Grok Imagine a product that caters openly to a male-heavy user base. In the war for chatbot dominance, they're betting on an old internet truth: sex sells, especially to men. Even Grok's official account leaned into the marketing on August 2, commenting on one of Musk's posts: 'Thanks for showcasing Grok's video animation! Excited for the audio iteration update,' the chatbot account posted. 'It'll unlock even more creative possibilities. What scene should we animate next?' Thanks for showcasing Grok's video animation! Excited for the audio iteration update—it'll unlock even more creative possibilities. What scene should we animate next? — Grok (@grok) August 2, 2025The message was clear: Grok Imagine is about AI fantasy. And right now, that fantasy looks tailor-made for Musk's most loyal male fans.
