Jessie J says life is too short' as she reveals new goals in life after cancer diagnosis
Jessie J has opened up about how her breast cancer diagnosis made her realise that "life is too short" and inspired her to chase some personal goals she has had for a long time.
The 37-year-old singer has been recovering ever since undergoing a full mastectomy in June, after doctors caught the disease early. In a heartfelt Instagram video Jessie shared on Saturday, she revealed some of the ambitions she has decided to prioritise after the health scare, saying: "I want to write books. Do a kids album. Get all my tattoos taken off. Take my family on holiday.
"I want to learn to ride a bike. I'd like to learn another language… but I know that's not going to happen. I want to see if I can sort out some medication or some cognitive therapy or something for my ADHD and OCD." This comes as the star admitted her diagnosis has made her reassess her life.
Jessie also explained that cancer has helped her act on ideas she's always had. She added: "When you go through something like cancer people are like 'you've changed.' But I think I always had those thoughts, cancer just makes us actually act on them because you're like 'life is short, I want to do it now.' I've always wanted to do that so I'm going to do it."
She recently shared a moving story about the emotional impact her surgery had on her, admitting that she "sobbed" over her scars. Jessie told The Sunday Times' Culture Magazine: "The other night. Mum was massaging my boob for me, because I can't touch the scars.
"And I started sobbing, 'I can't believe this has happened.' She was like, 'I wish it was me,' and then I'm crying, she's crying… I'm so glad it's not her."
Despite still facing the ongoing challenges of cancer recovery, Jessie has got some new music she wants to release on the horizon. Her next single, Believe In Magic, is set to come out on August 29.
She shared that she has another surgery lined up to improve the symmetry of her implants, but is determined not to let that slow her down professionally.
She explained: "People think, once you've got the all-clear, now it's done. But I've got another surgery… and I need to heal, so I have to figure out the rest of this year."
Jessie has stayed optimistic in the face of the challenges that come with parenting while fighting cancer and making new music, telling fans: "I can rest, parent AND release new music.
"I didn't leave a major label after 18 years to be scared to rewrite the rules to fit around my life/health… Another surgery needed this year. I can do it. Raising a toddler. I can do it. Releasing new music. I can do it."
The singer recently revealed that her hair has been falling out since her mastectomy and that she is experiencing soreness from cording, which is a common post-surgery issue. She admitted: "My boobs still aren't even, it's still so sore… I'm just trying to figure out what the next six months will look like."

Justin Bieber shares rare photo with Kendall Jenner... but fans are obsessed with Hailey's comment
Justin Bieber fans were left buzzing on Saturday as the pop star shared a rare photo of himself with his wife Hailey's BFF Kendall Jenner to Instagram. In the candid snap — which was taken during Bieber's recent hangout at a low-key LA dive bar on Thursday night — the star, 31, listened intently to the model, 29, while seated on a stool with what looked to be a beer glass in his hand. Jenner, donning a plunging black crop top and white jeans, looked animated as she spoke into Bieber's ear in the dimly-lit photo. Bieber and Jenner have been pals for over a decade and even faced dating rumors prior to the singer's relationship with Hailey, who he married in 2018. After Bieber shared the photo on Instagram, Hailey, 28, left a quip directed towards Jenner that received over 65,000 likes from fans. 'It's always Kendall telling a story with her hands,' the Rhode skincare founder joked. In response, Jenner wrote: 'God forbid I'm a visual storyteller.' Hours after the hilarious exchange in the comment section, Justin decided to upload a rare photo of himself and Hailey from Thursday's bar get together. The cover photo of his carousel post was of him and Hailey cheesing as they sat beside each other on a couch in the same dive bar. In the snapshot, the pair coordinated in casual-chic attires, wearing tank tops as they enjoyed a summer night out with their pals. Hailey also left another quick-witted comment underneath her husband's post and wrote: 'Secret's out we're dating!' Bieber also shared a photo of himself goofing off with his friends as he tried out a pair of glasses that didn't appear to be his as he stuck out his tongue and posed alongside his musical collaborator Carter Lang. Rounding out his post, he also shared a snapshot of him sitting between his buddies as he flashed a big smile. Recapping their Thursday night out, Justin also shared photos of his daytime activities in addition to their dive bar excursion. Following the adorable snapshot of him and Hailey, he shared a picture of himself jamming with his friends while wearing nothing else but a pair of boxer briefs, socks and a straw hat. He also shared a photo of him walking their Yorkie in southern California. After the sunset, he took his dog out into a parking lot for a quick break. While walking his dog, he also showed off his edgy sense of style, pairing a black tank top with cutoff shorts and bright pink sneakers. Earlier this week, Justin posted a loved-up Instagram album that included pictures of him and his wife Hailey snuggling up to each other and lounging side by side on picnic blankets. The couple, who tied the knot in September 2018, looked blissfully happy in several images as they spent time outdoors. His frequent posts come shortly after he released his surprise seventh studio album, SWAG, to critical acclaim on July 11. Several songs make mention of his public persona, personal struggles, and his commitment to his wife Hailey and their nearly one-year-old baby son Jack Blues Bieber. The album also appears to allude to a challenging time between the couple after months of marriage rumors and fan concern for the A-list couple. In the album's second track, Daisies, Justin appears to be singing about him and Hailey being at loggerheads and failing to communicate clearly. The lyrics read: 'Throwin' petals like, "Do you love me or not?" / Head is spinnin', and it don't know when to stop / You said "Forever," babe, did you mean it or not? / Hold on, hold on. 'You leave me on read, babe, but I still get the message / Instead of a line it's three dots, but I can connect them / And if it ain't right, babe, you know I respect it / But if you need time, just take your time / Honey, I get it, I get it, I get it.' In track 10 of the 21-song track list, titled Walking Away, Justin sings about the couple 'taking a break' and 'testing patience.' 'Days go by so fast, don't wanna spend them with you / So tell me why you're throwing stones at my back / You know I'm defenseless,' he sings in the first verse. 'Girl, we better stop before we say some s*** / We've been testing our patience / I think we better off if we just take a break,' he continues. But the chorus and subsequent verses paint a picture of their enduring love despite strife. 'Baby, I ain't walking away / You were my diamond / Gave you a ring / I made you a promise / I told you, I'd change / It's just human nature / These growing pains / And baby, I ain't walking away,' he sings in the chorus. Ahead of the album's release, Hailey had some choice words for their fans as she took to social media to promote it. She took aim at the 'losers' who've speculated about their relationship as she re-posted a photo of Justin's massive Swag billboard in NYC's Times Square, captioned: 'Is it finally clocking to you f***ing losers?' She appeared to suggest that Justin's recent bizarre behavior wasn't the result of any marriage troubles but due to him being hard at work on his long-awaited music, which he partially recorded in Iceland back in April.
