Will Congress turncoat still get minority vote in Ward 63 bypoll?

Jaipur: On one side is a Congress neta who recently joined the BJP, and on the other is the minority vote. Although considered a Congress citadel for years, this time a tough fight is expected in the bypoll to Ward 63 of Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Heritage.
The bypoll is set for next month following the death of Sushila Devi, who won in 2020 on a Congress ticket. Her son, Sunil Meena, was an influential Congress leader in the ward but he recently switched over to the BJP. Being a woman-reserved ward, BJP is planning to field Meena's wife, Seema Meena, as its candidate.
Now the question is whether voters of Ward 63, mostly minorities, would keep faith in Meena and his family or continue to vote for the Congress.
"I am confident that if given a chance, my wife would make it for the BJP. This won't be the first time I stand against Congress from this constituency. In 2014, I contested from this seat as an independent candidate and won, defeating both BJP and Congress," said Meena.
Congress, on the other side, has zeroed in on around three minority candidates, hoping to reclaim the ward with the help of the minority vote bank. More than 40% of voters in this ward are from the minority community.

"Meena magic won't work this time. In 2014, it was an exception. He managed to win because the vote bank of the Congress and the voters of BJP got split. He took advantage of being an independent candidate and won the election by a very low margin. This time, the entire minority vote bank would elect a Congress candidate again," said Yunus Qureshi, a Congress leader from the Kishanpole area and the former secretary of the party's minority cell.
The state election commission has already started preparations for the bypoll and will announce the date soon.

New Delhi, July 23 (UNI) Congress MP Manickam Tagore today submitted an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, demanding an urgent discussion in the Monsoon Session of Parliament, on what he described as a 'blatant and unconstitutional attempt' to deny voting rights to the poor, backward, Dalit, and marginalised communities in Bihar through the Election Commission's Special Investigation Report (SIR) mechanism. In his notice under Rule 56 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Lok Sabha, Tagore accused the Modi government of misusing the Election Commission to disenfranchise vulnerable sections of society—a move he said amounts to a violation of the fundamental right to vote enshrined in the Constitution and envisioned by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. 'That this House do adjourn to discuss the dangerous and unconstitutional moves by the Modi Government to use the Election Commission as a tool to systematically disenfranchise the poor, backward, Dalit, and marginalized communities in Bihar by means of the SIR (Special Investigation Report) mechanism, thereby violating the fundamental right to vote granted by the Constitution, as envisioned by Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar,' his letter to the Speaker stated. The Congress leader likened the alleged voter purging to 'colonial practices,' where suffrage was limited to the elite. 'This calculated disenfranchisement is reminiscent of a time when only the rich and property-owning classes could vote, while the masses were excluded,' he said. He further alleged that the ruling dispensation was exhibiting a 'Manuwadi mindset' aimed at reversing the gains of social justice and universal adult franchise. 'Under the guise of verifying voter identity and eligibility, official machinery is being misused to strike lakhs of poor voters—particularly from Dalit and backward communities—off the electoral rolls in Bihar. This is not an isolated incident, but part of a larger, disturbing pattern to manipulate the electoral process in favour of the ruling party by excluding sections of society that do not support them politically,' Tagore wrote. Bihar in sight, Haryana BJP govt all set to roll out Lado-Lakshmi Yojana
In a move that the party may showcase in its campaign for the Bihar Assembly polls, the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government in Haryana is set to implement the Lado-Lakshmi Yojana it had promised before the state elections. The scheme entails monthly financial aid of Rs 2,100 to eligible women. Sources said that the draft policy, prepared by the Social Justice Department, has been forwarded for final approval to Chief Minister Saini, who is likely to package it as a 'gift for Haryana's women' and officially roll it out before Rakshabandhan. 'The BJP made a promise to the sisters and mothers of Haryana ahead of last year's Assembly polls. We have worked on the modalities and have sent it to the CM's office. Saini will officially launch the scheme in the coming days,' Social Justice Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi said. According to the draft policy, the scheme will be rolled out in four phases. Women falling below the poverty line (BPL) with an annual income of less than Rs 1.8 lakh, who number around 46 lakh, would be covered in the first phase. 'The poorest of the poor, whose annual income is below Rs 1 lakh, may be given priority,' an official said. Officials said assistance under the scheme, which has a budgetary allocation of Rs 5,000 crore, 'may be increased' once the government finalises the actual number of beneficiaries. Officials peg the number of women between the age groups 18 and 60 to be around 75 lakh, but said employed women and the almost 8.5 lakh women who already avail social security benefits like widow, destitute, retirement and abandonment pension are likely to be excluded from the scheme. 'The eligibility criteria is yet to be finalised by the CM's office,' sources said. The Saini government's initiative is in line with other BJP-ruled states like Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, where the Ladli Behen Yojana and Ladki Bahin Yojana were rolled out respectively ahead of Assembly polls, and seemingly played a key role in bringing the party back to power. Earlier this month, Saini too hinted that the scheme may be rolled out soon and said his government was coming up with a portal for eligible women to register themselves even as officials said that the portal will go live immediately after the CM makes an announcement. Currently, the Haryana government implements schemes like the Aapki Beti, Humari Beti; Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao; Mukhyamantri Matrushakti Udyamita Yojana; Mahila Adhikarita Yojana; Kanyadaan scheme; and Drone Didi to cater to girl children, women entrepreneurs, widows, and women belonging to backward communities.

BRS govt did grave injustice to Kazipet: Naini
Hanumakonda: Warangal West MLA Naini Rajender Reddy alleged on Tuesday that the BRS government--which was in power for ten years--committed grave injustice to Kazipet. After the Congress came to power, Kazipet began to witness a new glow through various development initiatives, he while laying, along with KUDA chairman Inagala Venkata Ram Reddy, foundation for a CC road from Kazipet Junction to Somidi, being developed with Rs2 crore.
