Sam Fender forced to cancel string of gigs due to 'frustrating' health issue

Metro5 hours ago
Geordie superstar Sam Fender has announced a 14-day break from performing due to a new health scare.
In a social media post on Friday, the 31-year-old singer told his followers that his vocal cords were checked over by his ENT doctor earlier in the week.
Although they were 'slightly swollen' the Seventeen Going Under hitmaker was told he would be okay to carry on playing his shows.
During his headline act opening the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Thursday evening, the chart-topper had put on an incredible show, singing his big hits and a few songs from his new album, People Watching to F1 fans.
He continued: 'I felt I needed I had to push a lot harder to sing – this is never a good sign.'
He went on to break the devastating news that, after another ENT checkup, he had a haemorrhage on one of his vocal cords, forcing him to cancel several upcoming gigs.
This includes his performances at Roch Werchter, Down the Rabbit Hole, NOS Live and Montreux Jazz Festivals.
The music artist explained that if was to sing he could risk 'lasting damage' to his vocal cords.
'This is incredibly frustrating as I have been so careful with my vocal health and this year so far has been the best of my career.'
Obviously devastated, Sam added: 'I'm so sorry to everyone who is coming to those festivals with our show in mind,'
'Our fans are the most important thing to us, I hate letting people down and I hate not being able to sing for weeks as it is my only real passion in life,' he added.

This is not Sam's first health scare, the singer has been very open about his previous mental and physical issues.
Sam has been very transparent about his previous mental health struggles, especially through Covid – and has been praised by many for rising above toxic masculinity and being a great role model by speaking out.
The People Watching star has also suffered physical health problems: respiratory infections, laryngitis, and tonsillitis – which resulted in him having to cancel shows over the years.
Fans were gutted Sam did not appear at Glastonbury this year after rampant rumours suggesting he would play a secret set.
The fan-favourite singer released his third studio album, People Watching, in February of this year.
Sam has since begun his People Watching tour, selling out huge venues like the London Stadium and his very own stomping ground, St James Park.
His tour has got lots of media attention, especially on TikTok, making his fan base grow rapidly.
Olivia Dean was his chosen support act and he actually brought her out on stage to sing 'Rein Me In' back in June at London Stadium.
The pair have since joined forces to release the duet which has over 4 million streams on Spotify, after only two weeks of it being out. More Trending
The South Shields-born hit-maker isn't the only singer who has had to take a step back from performing due to vocal cord issues.
John Bon Jovi, 61, recently underwent surgery on his vocal cords – one of the cords was ' literally atrophied' and Bon Jovi found a surgeon who was willing to use a transplant to build it back up.
Similarly to Sam, Kesha rocked out so hard on stage at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert that she haemorrhaged her vocal cords.
Sir Tom Jones has also spoken out about his struggles with controlling his voice as he ages 'The older you get, the less control you have over your vocal cords.'

Lewis Hamilton is box office at Silverstone so don't dare rule him out

As usual, the Silverstone paddock was jammed with celebrities of varying grades – A-listers to Z-listers. And in terms of bringing stardust to the motorhomes, Keanu Reeves was probably in pole position. Reeves is fronting a documentary charting Cadillac's 2026 entry into Formula 1 but is best known to many for having the lead role in the action movie Speed. Which is what Lewis Hamilton has generally been short of since joining Ferrari for the 2025 season. But while Reeves is Hollywood box office, Hamilton remains the number one draw at the home of British motor racing. Even in Ferrari red, Hamilton is the darling of the crowd. Even with Lando Norris challenging for the title, Hamilton is the spectators' favourite. Even with George Russell leading the challenge of the locally-based Mercedes team, Hamilton is the poster boy of this race. Albeit, at 40 years of age, a relatively old poster boy. It has been a long-running love affair, for sure, starting with a podium place in his first British Grand Prix in 2007, finishing third in a rain-hit race. Hamilton has stood on the Silverstone podium 15 times, a record for the most top-three finishes at a single circuit. Also a record is his tally of nine British GP victories – no driver has won as many races at a single circuit or in a particular Grand Prix in F1 history. In his 18 starts at Silverstone for the British GP – he was third in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix here in 2020 – Hamilton has finished outside the top 10 only once. That special race in 2020 was staged a week after the British GP, a race that Hamilton won by driving the final lap and a half on three wheels. It was the type of drama Hamilton has been serving up at Silverstone for almost two decades – that's why the pit straight bears his name. He is a part of Silverstone's history, his image dominating the electronic billboards and hoardings. And back in his spiritual home over these past couple of days, there has been a spring in Hamilton's step and a glint in his eye. That was until the start of qualifying when there was more drama. In Q1, the impressive Ferrari pace in practice looked to have gone and Hamilton, sensing he was on the cusp of elimination, asked to squeeze in an extra lap. Sorry Lewis, you haven't got enough fuel, came the reply. Don't they know you have always got a few more miles when it says zero? As he can, Hamilton sounded irritated on the team radio and, for a short while, it looked as though he might not make it through to the second session. But he did. Just. And he then responded in the way you would expect a seven-time champion to respond, setting the fastest time in Q2, prompting early delirium amongst his legion of fans. Maybe only a slight mistake late on his last lap in Q3 cost him a place on one of the front two rows, meaning he will start the race fifth, just ahead of his team-mate Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari will be competitive in the race, that is for sure. Formula 1 fans can watch every practice, qualifying and race live with Sky's new Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle in a new deal that saves £192. As well as Sky Sports access, this includes more than 100 TV channels and free subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+. Considering he has been without a win in almost a year and has yet to stand on the podium in his Ferrari gear, a victory seems a long shot. But when he arrived at Silverstone 12 months ago, Hamilton had not won for two and a half years. He had gone 55 races without a victory. And what happened? After a titanic early tussle with Norris and Russell, Hamilton kept Max Verstappen at bay for a sensational triumph. It rained that day and there is a chance of rain today. He couldn't, could he? Don't bet against it.
