Security forces recover IED in Arunachals Namsai

Itanagar, July 20 (PTI) Security forces recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) from Arunachal Pradesh's Namsai district, a police officer said on Sunday.
The IED was recovered during a routine operation by Assam Rifles from Nangtaw village under Piyong circle on Saturday, he said.
Assam Rifles reported about the recovery of the explosive to police, Namsai Superintendent of Police (SP) Sange Thinley told PTI.
He said the IED is possibly an old one and that security forces are examining it.
A bomb squad will diffuse the recovered IED, Thinley said.
The SP said security has been beefed up in Namsai district in view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.

ED deputy director Chintan Raghuvanshi walks out of Bhubaneswar jail on bail
Cuttack, Jul 25 (PTI) Enforcement Directorate (ED) deputy director Chintan Raghuvanshi, who was arrested by the CBI in May for bribery, walked out of Jharapada jail in Bhubaneswar on Friday evening after being granted bail by Orissa High Court. The HC also granted bail to Chintan's associate Bhakti Binod Behera, from whose vehicle the CBI sleuths had recovered the bribe money. Justice Gourishankar Satapathy allowed their separate bail pleas through a common order, imposing stringent conditions. Raghuvanshi and Behera were arrested from two locations in Bhubaneswar after the CBI caught them red-handed while accepting bribe from a city-based mining businessman. According to the agency, Raghuvanshi had placed a bribe demand of Rs 5 crore, which was reduced to Rs 2 crore and Rs 20 lakh was received as an installment. Raghuvanshi had reportedly demanded the amount from the businessman with a promise not to arrest him or attach his property in the 12 cases of financial irregularities pending against him with the ED. Earlier this month, Raghuvanshi was granted an interim bail for 10 days by the HC to visit his ailing wife and their newborn. He returned to jail as soon as his interim protection was over. 'The IRS officer was released from the jail on Friday evening after relevant documents from the HC and lower court were produced to the jail authorities", his lawyer Lalitendu Mishra said. Besides Mishra, senior advocates Ashok Kumar Parija and Soura Chandra Mohapatra also represented Raghuvanshi. Observing that the investigation has made significant progress and that the trial is unlikely to commence soon, the HC stated that bail is the rule and jail is the exception. 'The bail applications of Raghuvanshi and Behera are allowed and both are allowed on furnishing bail bonds of Rs 1 lakh with two solvent sureties for the like amount to the satisfaction of the trial court," the HC said. The other conditions include that the petitioners shall not commit any offence while out on bail, shall remain present in the trial court during hearings, and shall not leave the country without prior permission of the trial court. They are also required to provide the address of their place of stay and surrender their passports before the court. Missing For Nine Months, Woman Found Alive Near Death Valley In Colorado

Kelsey Pittman, a North Carolina resident, has been found alive in Colorado after being missing for nine months. She was last seen near California's Death Valley National Park before disappearing without a trace. After months of extensive search efforts, she was finally located on July 22. The Inyo County Sheriff's Office confirmed the news in an official Facebook post, stating, 'The Inyo County Sheriff's Office is relieved to announce that [Kelsey Pittman] has been located alive in the state of Colorado." However, further details about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and where she spent her time during the nine months remain unknown. Pittman, aged 33, was first reported missing by her mother in November 2024 after she was unable to contact her. Concerned for her daughter's safety, her mother reached out to local authorities for assistance. In February 2025, the Inyo County Sheriff's Office received a report of a suspicious, abandoned vehicle located near The Pads, or Slab City, an area often frequented by campers and located close to Death Valley National Park. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the white 2009 Chevrolet HHR found at the site was registered to Pittman. A check of the vehicle's licence plates confirmed it was from North Carolina. On July 2, the department released an update stating that, despite their continued and rigorous efforts, the investigation had not yielded results. Pittman was described as a 'Caucasian female who is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds." She is noted to have blond or brownish-blond hair. While Pittman has now been found, the Sheriff's Office has chosen not to disclose the specifics of her discovery, including how and where she was located in Colorado. The decision was made in order to respect the privacy of both Pittman and her family. CM Rakshak Padak for 4 cops, saved 11 from canal
Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday honoured four police officers for their heroic efforts in rescuing 11 people — including five children — after a car plunged into the Sirhind Canal in Bathinda earlier this week. He announced CM Rakshak Padak for them, to be awarded at the state-level Independence Day function. At a ceremony at his official residence, Mann felicitated members of the Police Control Room (PCR) team: Assistant sub-inspectors Rajinder Singh and Narinder Singh, along with constables Jaswant Singh and Harpal Kaur. The CM praised their swift and courageous response during the July 23 incident as "inspiring example of public service". ASI Narinder Singh was the first to jump into the canal to save the passengers. Constable Jaswant Singh, who cannot swim, nonetheless followed him into the water to assist in the rescue. Mann also commended members of the public and other PCR staff who had helped evacuate the victims safely. He congratulated Bathinda senior superintendent of police Avneet Kaundal and her team for their coordination and commitment.
