The Great British Sewing Bee viewers all said the same thing as they pointed out a "big flaw".

During Tuesday's (August 5) instalment of the popular BBC reality programme, judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant challenged the sewers with three tasks celebrating Korea's vibrant fashion and textile heritage.

They were accompanied by acclaimed designer Eudon Choi, who assisted in evaluating each Korean-influenced piece.

For the pattern challenge, contestants were required to craft a jeogori - a traditional Korean jacket that's now featured in modern womenswear and K-Pop fashion.
The sewers then had to reimagine taekwondo uniforms and vibrant belts into eye-catching new garments, with Kit securing first place, reports Wales Online.

In the made-to-measure challenge, participants were challenged to design evening attire that drew inspiration from clothing historically worn by Korean military personnel.
Born in the 900s during the Goryeo dynasty, the cheollik started as a military coat built for movement and authority with a flat collar, pleats and ties.
Over centuries, it's evolved from rugged menswear into elegant womenswear.

Contestants were allocated five hours for the task, having been permitted to practice their designs at home.
Following her failure to wow the judges with her garments, Novello was sent home from the contest, whilst Caz claimed the garment of the week accolade.

"It's okay, I expected it," Novello said following her departure.
"Sewing has always been in my life, and this experience has blown it out of the water, really. It's just something that I will remember and treasure always."
However, after watching the episode, many of the show's viewers shared their frustration at the lack of time the sewers get during each challenge.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one person wrote: "I know it's a competition, but can't they give them a little more time? It's nicer to judge finished garments."
Another added: "I know they have to weed out the worst sewers, but give them a bit more time," whilst a third said: "They defo need more time."

Tis but a stamp: Royal Mail set celebrates Monty Python favourite scenes

The main collection of six stamps celebrates characters from Monty Python's Flying Circus, the BBC TV series which ran from 1969 to 1974 with sketches so popular, generations of fans can still recite all the lines. The stamps showcase highlights including the Spanish Inquisition, the Ministry Of Silly Walks, the Lumberjack Song, the Dead Parrot Sketch, Nudge Nudge, and Spam. The Spam sketch is one of the TV favourites celebrated in the stamp set (Royal Mail/PA) Formed in 1969, Monty Python was one of the UK's best-known comedy troupes, made up of comics Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Sir Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam. Presented in a miniature sheet, and in honour of 50 years of the cult 1975 film, Monty Python And The Holy Grail, a further four stamps celebrate the film. Scenes featured on the stamps include The Black Knight's defiant ''Tis but a scratch!', King Arthur and his knights receiving their divine quest, and Sir Robin's encounter with the Three-Headed Giant: 'You're lucky, you're not next to him!' Sir Michael said, with a reference to a character from Monty Python's Flying Circus: 'Very glad to share a stamp with the nude organist!'. The three-headed giant meets Sir Robin in the film Monty Python And The Holy Grail (Royal Mail/PA) David Gold, Royal Mail's director of external affairs and policy, said: 'Monty Python has left an indelible mark on global comedy, all while remaining unmistakably British at its core. 'From their groundbreaking television debut to a string of iconic films, this stamp collection honours a body of work that has shaped the comedic landscape for nearly six decades.' The group followed their TV work by making a series of films including 1979's Life Of Brian, the story of a man who was mistaken for Jesus; and 1983's The Meaning Of Life. Idle, 82, created the medieval musical Spamalot, which earned a Tony award for best musical after its Broadway run. Chapman died of tonsil cancer in 1989 aged 48, while Jones died from a rare form of dementia in 2020, aged 77. The stamps, and a range of collectible products, are available to pre-order from August 7 and go on general sale from August 14.

A precocious protagonist: Vera, or Faith, by Gary Shteyngart, reviewed

It's impossible not to love Vera Bradford-Shmulkin, the whip-smart Jewish-Korean- American child narrator of Vera, or Faith, Gary Shteyngart's sixth novel, which is a masterclass in the author's sardonicism, set in a frighteningly realistic near future. School is awful and Vera's world is on the brink of imploding because 'Daddy and Anne Mom', her stepmother, aren't getting on, what with Igor's evening 'mar-tiny' habit and crumpling status as a 'leftist intellectual'. The wider American world is in similar turmoil, with an escalating campaign for the Five-Three amendment. This calls for 'exceptional Americans' who can trace their roots to before the Revolutionary War to get added voting weight, heightening tensions. Vera, whose half-brother Dylan would be an exceptional American, is desperate to trace 'Mom Mom', her mysterious birth mother, who she thinks has cancer. It's no wonder Vera's paediatrician and her psychologist think she suffers from intense anxiety, despite presenting as a very bright ten-year-old. Admittedly, this all makes for a precocious and pretentious protagonist, but Shteyngart knows that readers will relate to Vera because 'many of them were Vera', as he told one interviewer. Her 'Things I Still Need to Know Diary' is full of lists of words and phrases such as 'neoliberal frog-march of the damned'. The super-sharp child narrator is a trope beloved by authors who want to look at the world sideways. Miriam Toews uses it in her latest novel Fight Night, which sees nine-year-old Swiv try to track down her missing father, as did Henry James many decades ago in What Maisie Knew. Here, sticking to Vera's close third-person perspective emphasises the crazy geopolitics. The one flaw is that children are repetitive, and so are some of Vera's lines, such as how Igor gets her to check people's bookshelves to see if the spine has been cracked on an enormous book called The Power Broker. The action takes place over a couple of months, mainly in Manhattan, where Vera and Dylan attend a highly selective public school. Given the joy that comes from the girl's unique take on the world, it would be a shame to give too much away in such a slim novel; but Kaspie the AI-powered chess computer and Stella the talking car deserve special mention. Shteyngart apparently wrote the novel in 51 days, and pays homage throughout to Vladimir Nabokov's 1969 novel Ada, or Ardor. It makes an ideal entry point for anyone new to Shteyngart's world because it's all there, from the stand-in for the author himself to prophecies of where the world is headed. An enjoyable if somewhat alarming read.
