NCP (SP) MLA bats for smooth traffic on Nagar & Alandi roads

Time of India03-07-2025
Pune: In the ongoing monsoon session of the assembly on Thursday, NCP (SP) MLA of Wadgaon Sheri Bapu Pathare raised the issue of traffic congestion on Nagar Road and Alandi Road, while demanding removal of BRTS and demolition of the dedicated lane on Alandi Road to ease vehicular movement.
In the question hour session, the MLA raised the issue of traffic snarls, particularly on Nagar Road, during peak hours. "The area is close to the airport. Commuters face daily hardships because of traffic congestion, which worsens because of diversions whenever there is VIP movement. There is urgent need for the state govt to intervene and resolve the issue," he said.
In Aug 2024, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had sanctioned Rs97 crore to construct an underpass and flyover on Nagar Road.
Pathare said, "There has been no progress on ground. I urge the govt to direct PMC to expedite the process."

Speaking about the traffic congestion on Alandi Road, which falls in his Wadgaon Sheri constituency, the MLA demanded removal of the BRTS corridor. He cited the example of Nagar Road, where the BRTS lane was removed to provide more space for smooth vehicle movement.
"The BRTS project in Pune is defunct and the civic administration has cleared all corridors, except the one on Alandi Road. There is no point keeping it. The state govt should instruct PMC to clear the road like they dismantled the BRTS lanes on Nagar Road," Pathare said in the assembly.

Track geometry, stoppages, upkeep impact train running: Vaishnaw on Vande Bharat speed

New Delhi, The average speed of a train depends upon the geometry of the track, stoppages enroute and maintenance work in the section among others, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told Rajya Sabha on Friday. Track geometry, stoppages, upkeep impact train running: Vaishnaw on Vande Bharat speed He was replying to a question by NCP MP Fauzia Khan who asked, "whether government is aware of the fact that the average speed of Vande Bharat trains has decreased from 84.48 kilometre per hour in 2020-21 to 76.25 kilometre per hour in 2023-24 due to incomplete track upgrade and infrastructural constraint." She also wanted to know the current status of track upgrade vis-a-vis targets and the steps taken to expedite track modernisation to enable Vande Bharat trains to run at their designated speed. Vaishnaw stated that the Vande Bharat trains currently running over the Indian Railway network are semi-high speed train services with design speed of 180 kmph and maximum operating speed of 160 kmph. "The average speed of the train depends upon geometry of the track, stoppages enroute, maintenance work in the section etc," he said. Vaishnaw added, "Upgrade and improvement of railway tracks on Indian Railways to increase the speed potential have been carried out in a big way during last 10 years. The measures for track upgrade include use of 60 kg rails, wider base concrete sleepers, thick web switches, longer rail panels, H Beam sleepers, modern track renewal and maintenance machines etc." The railway minister, while presenting a comparative figure of track potential in 2014 and 2025 said, "As a result of above measures, there has been significant increase in speed potential of the tracks." Details of speed potential of railway tracks during 2014 vis a vis 2025 suggested that while in 2014, 5 per cent track were suitable to run trains at 130 and above speed, in 2025, 21.8 per cent tracks can support such speed. Khan also wanted to know the current status and anticipated timeline for the rollout of Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, including the key factors contributing to delays in their production and deployment "The first prototype of Vande Bharat sleeper trainset has already been manufactured. Based on the extensive field trials and the experience gained therein, the first rake of Vande Bharat sleeper train is undergoing commissioning," the minister replied. Pune: Poll officer says EVM inspection, verification done; Dodke claims demand not met

The Pune district election office on Friday said it has completed inspecting and verifying electronic voting machines (EVMs) of two polling stations in Khadakwasla assembly constituency. However, NCP(SP) candidate Sachin Dodke claimed that the process was stopped midway, after election officers refused to accept his demand to count the VVPATs of respective polling booths to verify the actual voting. Dodke was defeated by BJP candidate Bhimrao Tapkir by 52,000 votes in Khadakwasla assembly seat in the November 2024 assembly elections. He was one of the many who raised doubts over the EVMs and alleged it was being tampered with. EVM inspections and verifications, which also involves mock polls, for Khadakwasla was done at a Bhosari godown in the district, where voting machines are stored in a strong room. 'We have carried out the process of inspection and verification of EVMs of two polling stations in the Khadakwasla assembly constituency as per the demand of the applicant. He was shown the count on EVM of the assembly election. However, he refused to have the EVMs' memory erased for the next step, which is conducting the mock poll, and has given it in writing, so the process stands completed now from our side,' said Yashwant Mane, returning officer of Khadakwasla assembly seat. Regarding the demand to count the VVPATs of respective polling booths to match the count on EVMs, he said, 'This was not part of the SoP laid down to us for inspection and verification of EVMs. However, matching EVM data and VVPAT data of five EVMs was done during the counting process.' Dodke said that EVM count was shown during the counting process and questioned why he would spend money to do the same thing again. 'My demand was to hold a recount by verifying the EVMs' count with VVPAT slips to assure that there was no tampering of EVMs during elections. I am not satisfied and will appeal against it in the court,' he said. He claimed the verification process and selection of EVMs was stopped as the election officers were unable to justify his demands. The district election office was to inspect and verify EVMs of 27 polling booths in Hadapsar constituency as per the demand of NCP(SP) candidate Prashant Jagtap. He later informed his election petition was pending in the Bombay High Court so the process of his application was suspended on Thursday. Cabinet reshuffle on the cards: Maharashtra CM meets Amit Shah, other top BJP leaders in Delhi

MUMBAI: With a cabinet reshuffle on the cards, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday met Union Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah. The meeting between the two top BJP leaders, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Amit Shah was held in Delhi and lasted for more than 20 minutes. Fadnavis also met BJP's national president and Union Minister J.P. Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and senior leader Manohar Lal Khattar. While the details of the meeting were not officially disclosed, sources said that the discussion focused on removing ministers in the Mahayuti government whose performance over the past six months has been unsatisfactory. Additionally, ministers whose departments have been in the news for corruption may also be dropped. The leadership reportedly wants to send a strong message to ministers who frequently stir controversy. According to sources, eight ministers from the Mahayuti alliance are likely to be removed. These include, Shiv Sena minister Sanjay Shirsat, whose bedroom video featuring a bag full of cash went viral. Agriculture Minister and NCP MLA Manikrao Kokate, who was caught on video playing online Junglee Rummy during the monsoon session of the Maharashtra Assembly. He has also repeatedly courted controversy by calling his own government "beggars" Shiv Sena ministers Sanjay Rathod, Bharat Gogawale, and Yogesh Kadam, NCP Minister Narhari Zirwa and Water Resources Minister and BJP MLA Girish Mahajan There is also speculation that State Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar, who is reportedly interested in a ministerial role, may be inducted into the cabinet. In that case, BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar may be appointed as the new Speaker. Responding to the speculation, Narvekar said he would wait for official confirmation and preferred not to comment on media reports. He added that he has performed satisfactorily as Speaker and is ready to take on a new role if the party decides. Sources stated, 'CM Fadnavis and his team have been evaluating the performance of Mahayuti ministers over the last six months, along with the report cards of each department based on the 100-day action plan. The Chief Minister is keen to send a strong message that he will not tolerate inefficiency or misconduct. He expects seriousness and discipline from his ministers. Currently, the behavior of some ministers is tarnishing the image of the government and creating the impression that Mr. Fadnavis lacks control over his cabinet. A stern message is necessary ahead of the local body elections,' said a senior BJP leader, requesting anonymity. Meanwhile, regarding reports of NCP Minister Manikrao Kokate's resignation, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that he would speak with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and a decision would be taken accordingly.
