In its first meeting since Operation Sindoor, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved a series of 10 capital acquisition proposals under the 'Acceptance of Necessity' (AoN) route, the first step in the defence procurement process. The duration of the procurement varies from case-to-case basis. The clearances cover the tri-services with a focus on enhancing mobility, firepower, logistics and maritime security.
New Delhi: Projects worth Rs 1.05 lakh crore for a wide array of military systems, including quick-range surface-to-air missiles (QRSAM), mine countermeasure vessels (MCMVs), electronic warfare (EW) systems, armoured recovery vehicles, naval moored mines and a tri-services logistics platforms were cleared by the defence ministry on Thursday.
Sources said the surface-to-air missiles are the indigenously developed QRSAM (Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile) systems by DRDO, with the Army Air Defence (AAD) set to receive systems worth over Rs 30,000 crore. 'With an operational range of around 30 kilometres, the system is capable of detecting, tracking and engaging targets even while in motion and is capable of launching missiles during brief stops. This mobility allows it to provide air defence cover to advancing military units without the need for long setup times,' explained sources.
The Navy received a significant portion of the approvals, including Mine Countermeasure Vessels (MCMVs) which are specialised ships designed to detect and neutralise sea mines, ensuring safe navigation for both military and commercial vessels.
To further counter such threats, moored mines, which sources described as underwater explosives anchored to the seabed to block enemy access to critical maritime areas, were also cleared. DRDO has developed a Processor Based Moored Mine (PBMM) which is capable of detecting and destroying surface and sub-surface threats by the acoustic/pressure influence anomaly generated by targets passing in proximity.
Also cleared by the ministry was the Super Rapid Gun Mount, a naval artillery system that can target both aerial and surface threats, and Submersible Autonomous Vessels—unmanned platforms that conduct undersea surveillance, mine detection, and anti-submarine operations with minimal risk to personnel.
For the Army, the DAC also approved Armoured Recovery Vehicles used to tow and repair damaged tanks and heavy vehicles in the field, vital for maintaining mobility in combat zones. New Electronic Warfare systems were also cleared, which will help the Armed Forces detect, disrupt and shield against hostile communications and radar, a key advantage in contemporary high-tech warfare.
A major tri-services system cleared under this package is the Integrated Common Inventory Management System (ICIMS), a unified logistics platform aimed at streamlining the storage and movement of critical supplies across the Army, Navy and Air Force. The system is expected to cut redundancy and improve supply chain efficiency.
The ministry in its statement clearly said that these systems were approved under 'Buy' (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured), a category under the Defence Acquisition Procedure that prioritises the acquisition of defence equipment designed, developed and produced within India.

India methodically building own electronics capabilities: Ashwini Vaishnav
India is making significant strides in electronics manufacturing, aiming for 38% value addition within five years, mirroring China's current level. The country is fostering its own capabilities and supply chains with support from Taiwan, the US, and South Korea, reducing reliance on China. Simultaneously, India is expanding its semiconductor capabilities and encouraging domestic production to ensure self-reliance amidst geopolitical challenges. Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads 'Open to Legal Reforms for Social Media' Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads India is developing 'its own capabilities' in electronics manufacturing in a 'very methodical and sustained way' and is poised to achieve its value-addition target of 38% within the next five years, said Ashwini Vaishnaw , union minister for electronics and IT, railways and information and China's value addition stands at about 38%. The minister was responding to queries on reports of Apple 's key supplier Foxconn repatriating about 300 Chinese engineers from its factories in India.'De-risking is learning the skills and making it here and developing our own supply chain, which is what we are doing,' he said at an ET Roundtable in New Delhi on is coming to the electronics manufacturing ecosystem from countries such as Taiwan, the US and South Korea along with the country's own engineers, he said, downplaying dependence on China and its technical said countries are moving toward making social media more responsible for content, responding to whether regulation is needed to rein in misinformation. India is trying to build a political consensus on the issue and will be open to changing its legal framework if required, he has significantly expanded its mobile manufacturing ecosystem and is now building its semiconductor capabilities through the Rs 76,000 crore India Semiconductor Mission and the Rs 23,000 crore components incentive programme announced earlier this year. India's electronics manufacturing is worth about $145 billion and that's increasing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20%, he said. 'We know that there will be challenges in every growth path, but we have the confidence that we will be able to sustain our growth,' the minister per a Bloomberg report, Foxconn has recalled over 300 Chinese engineers and technicians from its Indian iPhone production facilities, reportedly due to Chinese government directives aimed at curbing technology and talent outflow. This is expected to create operational hurdles for Foxconn, potentially impacting the efficiency of assembly lines and delaying the training of local Indian workers as Apple scales its iPhone production in India. While the report said that the talent gap is being offset by Taiwanese staff, the move underscores the challenges Foxconn faces in diversifying its supply chain amid current geopolitical tensions. The highest value addition in any one country (China) is 38% and India has already crossed 20% within a time frame of six to seven years. 'We are on a clear path to crossing 30% in the coming two to three years, and reaching 38% within the next five years is a very reasonable target,' he Tata Electronics chip assembly plant in Assam will service telecom manufacturers globally, Micron unit in Gujarat will be supplying memory chips, while power electronics will come from the CG plant, also in Gujarat, he has to be self-reliant in every domain to safeguard itself from geopolitical upheaval. 'We have to get into every machine, every component,' he said. 'We must go into every part of it and start manufacturing them.'

ACB files chargesheet against MLA, others in cash-for-no-query scandal
Jaipur: Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) filed a chargesheet Wednesday against Jaikrishn Patel, who represents the Bagidora constituency in Banswara district, and three others. They were arrested on May 4 in a first-of-its-kind 'cash-for-no-query' scandal in the state. ACB has kept the investigation pending against Rohitash Meena, the personal assistant of the MLA, as he is on the run since the trap in which the legislator was allegedly caught accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh in the parking lot of the MLA quarters near the state assembly building. ACB prosecutor Shalini Gautam said the chargesheet has retained the sections of Prevention of Corruption Act under which Patel and others were charged in the FIR filed after the trap operation. The CCTV footage, recording of the incident in which he was caught negotiating with the ACB complainant, philetrapic power, and other forensic evidence have been presented. According to ACB officials, Rohitash Meena handed over the money to his uncle, Laxman Meena alias Jaswant, who was arrested on May 5. During sustained interrogation, Laxman disclosed that he passed on the cash to an acquaintance, Jagaram Meena. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gold Is Surging in 2025 — Smart Traders Are Already In IC Markets Learn More Undo Mistaking the bag for proceeds from a failed land deal, Jagaram buried it in the lawn and poured water over it to cover up the stash. Patel, 37, a first-time legislator from the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP), was accused of demanding Rs 2.5 crore from a Karauli-based miner, Ravindra Kumar Meena, the son of BJP leader Ram Niwas Meena, who unsuccessfully contested the 2023 Rajasthan assembly elections from Todabhim. Patel allegedly demanded the bribe in exchange for not raising questions in the state assembly about mining activities in the Todabhim-Karauli belt—located nearly 700 km from his own constituency. The amount was later negotiated down to Rs 2 crore. The ACB has booked five accused in the case under Sections 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 61(2) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. According to the FIR, the bribe negotiations began on March 22, when Rohit Meena called the complainant to meet at Indira Gandhi Nagar. During the meeting, Meena mentioned "2.5," which the complainant initially believed meant Rs 2.5 lakh. However, Patel later clarified that the demand was actually Rs 2.5 crore. In the last week of April, the complainant paid Rs 1 lakh to Patel, which helped the ACB verify the complaint and prepare for a trap. On May 4, Patel and another accused, Vicky, reportedly discussed, inspected, and accepted Rs 20 lakh in cash from the complainant at the MLA's official residence. The money was later handed over in the parking area and concealed, a sequence that the FIR says has been prima facie established. ACB stated that Patel abused his public office to obtain illegal gratification, amounting to offences under the amended Prevention of Corruption Act and the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
