Five-star offensive lineman Darius Gray visited the Volunteers over last weekend. While speaking to 247Sports' Patrick Brown, Gray shared how much he enjoyed the visit.
'They did a great job,' Gray told Brown on Sunday. 'I think Tennessee is definitely going to be a school that we're going to consider when it's decision time.
"Tennessee has always been at the top of the list for me for however long I've been knowing them, and they've never changed since – and that's another big thing. You go down a few times, you can kind of start to see people switch up a little bit.
"They're the same people as I met them the very first time, so that's big.'

In addition to Tennessee, Gray has seen the Clemson Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Virginia Cavaliers and Virginia Tech Hokies on an official visit. The top-rated prospect is also still planning trips to the Ohio State Buckeyes, LSU Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks.

But when talking about Tennessee, Gray added there's nothing he doesn't like.
'I enjoyed everything,' Gray told Brown. 'Just being around the players was kind of the biggest thing. That was the next step in this recruitment process, and everybody was great.'
According to the On3 Industry Rankings, 247Sports and Rivals, Gray is the No. 1 interior offensive lineman in the 2026 class.
Based on the 247Sports composite rankings, he is the No. 2 interior offensive lineman and second-rated Virginia prospect for 2026. Gray is also the No. 28 overall recruit in the class.

Ohio State Gets Great News on 'Elite' Star Quarterback

Ohio State Gets Great News on 'Elite' Star Quarterback originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Ohio State Buckeyes have become a mecca of sorts for high school quarterbacks at their summer camp this week. Another top future signal-caller came to Columbus, Ohio, on Thursday. Advertisement On3's Mick Walker reported that 2027 five-star quarterback Elijah Haven was set to visit the Buckeyes' campus on Thursday. The highly regarded signal-caller could be closing in on an offer from Ohio State. "Ohio State not offered the 6-foot-4, 205-pound Haven, but quarterbacks coach Billy Fessler has been evaluating him," Walker wrote on Wednesday. On3 ranks Haven as the top quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class and the No. 9 overall prospect. Ohio State Buckeyes football head coach Ryan Day© Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Haven is also the No. 1 quarterback and fourth-best Louisiana prospect in the 2027 class, per 247Sports composite rankings. Overall, he is ranked No. 22 in the class according to the composite rankings. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has projected Haven to land with the LSU Tigers. Haven also has the Michigan Wolverines high on his list of schools. Advertisement Walker wrote that the quarterback has also received offers from the Auburn Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Miami Hurricanes and Ole Miss Rebels. But an offer from the reigning national champions could always shake things up. Walker added Wednesday that Haven will be one of four Louisiana prospects in Columbus this week. The other three were expected to be wide receiver Miguel Whitley, offensive lineman Zyion Wesley and safety Emmanuel Moses. On3's Mick Walker reported Monday that Ohio State was set to host six of the top 25 quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting class at their summer camp this week. The Buckeyes have already received two verbal commitments in the 2027 recruiting class, and one of them is a quarterback: four-star prospect Brady Edmunds. Cubs Trade Idea Lands $64.5 Million Left-Hander from Lousy NL Team

Cubs Trade Idea Lands $64.5 Million Left-Hander from Lousy NL Team originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Cubs will likely be looking for any help for their under-performing starting rotation. Advertisement That is why Jim Bowden at The Athletic is expecting Chicago to target a variety of pitchers at the MLB trade deadline. He listed several starters that are either having down years or struggling on underperforming teams, one of which was the Rockies' left-hander Kyle Freeland. Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland (21) delivers a pitch against the Miami Marlins during the first inning at loanDepot Navarro-Imagn Images Freeland's best season was back in 2018, when he posted a 17-7 record with a 2.85 ERA. It was the only season the Rockies have had a winning record (91-71) over the last 10 years, since they went 86-76 in 2015. But the veteran starter is just 1-8 this year in 13 starts, playing on a team that is 12-54 and headed for one of the worst records in baseball history. Advertisement Freeland's ERA sits at a below-average 5.19 for the season, but it is essential to recognize that Coors Field is a difficult venue in which to pitch. The Rockies' struggling defense and lack of run support also play a role. Still, Freeland's ERA is narrowly better than Cubs starter Ben Brown's 5.37 ERA, and Brown is on one of the best teams in baseball. Freeland is not known for a dominating fastball; instead, he excels with his off-speed pitches and command of the zone. One MLB Insider says that it fits well with what Chicago wants out of their starters. The Rockies are on pace for their seventh straight losing season, which is why the change of scenery coming from a trade to Chicago could revitalize Freeland. Cubs Linked to Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly Amid Search for Starting Pitching

Cubs Linked to Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly Amid Search for Starting Pitching originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After the season-ending injury to Justin Steele, the Chicago Cubs' need for a starting pitcher was heightened. When Shota Imanaga went down to injury, and Javier Assad had a setback, the Cubs' need for a starter became prominent. Advertisement Bruce Levine, on 670 The Score, named a potential replacement for Steele as one of the top names to monitor for the Cubs. He linked the Cubs to Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Merrill Kelly. "You're looking for competent pitchers that can pitch innings for you," Levine said. "And you know, certainly a guy like Kelly is available that would be a nice find for them." The veteran right-hander would be a solid addition for the Cubs. He's not too expensive at $7 million total, and while he's 36-years-old, he'd be a reasonable rental option for the 2025 season. After the Diamondbacks saw staff ace Corbin Burnes get ruled out for the year due to needing Tommy John Surgery, their expiring deals became a lot more feasible to target. Kelly, on an expiring deal, is one of the most likely trade candidates for the Diamondbacks. Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Merrill Kelly (29) throws against the Atlanta Braves in the seventh inning at Truist Davis-Imagn Images Kelly is in the final year of a two-year, $18 million deal with a club option of $7 million for 2025. The Cubs would pick up a small amount of that money and would likely not have to spend a lot to do so. Advertisement While Kelly is an older option, he's still pitching at an elite level. In 2025, Kelly has a 3.43 ERA and a 6-2 record. Across 76 innings, Kelly has 72 strikeouts compared to just 19 walks. His WHIP is below one, at a 0.987, which is 13th in baseball. Since Kelly made his MLB debut in 2019, he's been an above-average starter. Adding someone like Kelly to the Cubs rotation would be a good move to make. It wouldn't cost a lot, thanks to Kelly being 36 and in the final year of his deal. But it would bring in a good starter to replace the injured Steele, and help bolster a Cubs rotation that could contend for the World Series.
