Update on senior Dachshund Stolen From Blind Man in Chicago Has Everyone in Tears

Update on senior Dachshund Stolen From Blind Man in Chicago Has Everyone in Tears originally appeared on Parade Pets. When dogs are lost or stolen, their parents do everything in their power to find them. Reaching out to others to help in the search often brings positive results. Angel Santiago, a legally blind man in Chicago, spread the word when his 14-year-old Dachshund was taken from his yard and his efforts paid off in the best way. The YouTube video from Fox 32 Chicago shared how the service dog named Bam Bam was stolen from Santiago in Logan Square at 4 AM on June 5. Santiago revealed that two people had taken the dog after accessing his yard through a gate. He tried to intercede but was unsuccessful. The Chicago resident is legally blind due to glaucoma and Type 2 diabetes. Bam Bam is his emotional support dog and an integral part of his life. The devoted Doxie dad walked up to seven miles per day in search of Bam Bam and handed out flyers with the dog's picture. Santiago's neighbors assisted him in the search and helped him file a police report. A GoFundMe raised almost $20,000 to support rescue efforts that included reward money, pet detective services, flyer printing and organizing volunteer groups to increase the search area. "Bam Bam means the world to me and I feel my body draining away," Santiago shared as he pled for his dog's return. "I can only do so much. I promised that I will keep walking and walking, yelling his name out. But if you could just help me with your own eyes and see if you could spot him for me. Let your eyes be mine and look out for Bam Bam for me please. I beg of you to help me," Santiago said. Bam Bam Is Going Home The news Santiago hoped for recently came when Bam Bam was returned to a police station. "Police at the 16th district say that a male and female walked in with the dog, would not answer any questions, and they left," Joanie Lum reported on Fox Bam appeared to be in good health and detectives are now investigating the dog's disappearance. The Doxie will soon be reunited with his eagerly awaiting dad. Santiago refused to give up and got the help he needed from others who also hoped for Bam Bam's return. "It makes me feel really happy inside that I do have people that want to help and are backing me up," Santiago said. 🐶🐾🐾 Update on senior Dachshund Stolen From Blind Man in Chicago Has Everyone in Tears first appeared on Parade Pets on Aug 20, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade Pets on Aug 20, 2025, where it first appeared. Hundreds online call for boycott of midwest grocery chain after local manager has 19-year-old autistic deli worker arrested for ‘stealing' fruit cups and ‘portions of chicken': video

Midwestern supermarket chain Meijer is coming under fire after recently released police bodycam footage showed a store manager having a 19-year-old autistic deli worker arrested for 'stealing' food. Footage circulating on social media in the past few days shows James Denison being confronted by police in the manager's office of a Seven Hills, Ohio, Meijer location on March 7, 2024. James Denison, then 19, was arrested for 'stealing' fruit cups and portions of chicken while working at the supermarket Meijer. Seven Hills PD Video showed the seemingly self-satisfied store manager make the petty accusations against the teen, who sheepishly sits in a store-branded polo shirt. 'So we have, uh, James here,' the unidentified store manager told the officer, pointing a finger gun at the boy, the clip shows. 'He works in our deli department and we found out that he's just been taking some, like, orders of chicken and fruit cups and stuff like that,' the bald man said with an odd smile creeping onto his face. The manager claimed the 'theft' amounted to $110 over a three-month period — which Denison said was the cost of some of his shift lunches, which he forgot to repay. The teen, who remained calm and compliant throughout, was then searched and handcuffed in the office, the video showed. He told the officer that he lives locally and walks to work every day. When asked if Denison had any of the allegedly stolen items on his person, the manager replied that before the meeting, the teen had eaten a portion of chicken in the break room. Meijer has locations throughout the Midwest. The enraging arrest occurred at a Seven Hills, Ohio, location. AFP via Getty Images The teen was then put in the back of a police vehicle and taken to the local precinct, where he was booked for minor theft. The arresting officer attempted to calm the frightened Denison during the trip, the footage shows. 'We do things a little differently than a lot of departments. We kind of help people out,' the officer said. Despite being understanding, the officer arrested, fingerprinted, and booked Denison, who was released without bond, according to the video. The video recently circulated on social media, with many users calling for a boycott of Meijer. Hundreds posted on X with the hashtag 'boycottmeijer' and thousands have commented on viral clips from the bodycam footage. A GoFundMe launched Sunday on behalf of Denison by Kerry Campbell, a registered nurse in Florida, has already raised $28K for Denison's legal fees, transportation, cost of living, and food. Meijer did not respond to The Post's request for comment.

Elderly service dog Bam Bam reunited with blind owner more than 2 months after being stolen

A 14-year-old Dachshund was reunited with his legally blind owner who prayed daily for the service pup's safe return after he was stolen from their Illinois home in early June. Bam Bam, whose disappearance went viral online as enraged dog lovers spread the word to help find him, was dropped off at Chicago's 16th District police station by an unidentified man and woman around 8 p.m. Tuesday night — more than two months after the pouch was taken. 3 Bam Bam, a 14-year-old service dog, was safely returned to his legally blind owner more than two months after he was taken. GoFundMe Advertisement After being identified as the viral pup through his microchip, Bam Bam was finally returned to his owner, Angel Santiago, a 58-year-old man who is legally blind due to glaucoma. Upon their reunion, Santiago held the senior wiener dog close to his chest, peppering the dog's snout with long-awaited kisses. Bam Bam was snatched from Santiago's yard on June 5, leaving the legally blind man to navigate a world he struggled to see without his little helper leading the way. Advertisement Santiago told PETA organizers that he heard two men bust into his yard and scoop up a frantic Bam Bam. He said he tried to intervene the best he could, but that the pair absconded with his beloved pup. 3 Bam Bam was stolen from his owner's backyard on June 5, Angel Santiago said. GoFundMe When Santiago wasn't on the street handing out flyers and shouting for his missing dog, he was praying 'every day and night' for Bam Bam, he told the Chicago Tribune. 'No matter how many times I fall…I always get up,' Santiago told the outlet. Advertisement Despite his disability, the dedicated dog dad would walk up to seven miles a day in desperate search of Bam Bam. All his efforts soon paid off as other horrified dog owners took to the internet to help spread the word. 3 Bam Bam was identified through his microchip after he was dropped off at a local police station. Garrido Stray Rescue Foundation / Facebook 'To the people who took that blind man's dog out of his backyard, I literally hope you never have a good night's sleep ever again. The fact that you went into a blind man's yard and took his best pal, his best companion, his service dog for the last 14 years, you literally deserve to never have a moment of peace,' one TikTok user said through near-tears in a video with more than 800,000 views. Advertisement Santiago told the Tribune that he even received calls offering support from other countries like Spain and New Zealand. PETA was planning on posting billboards in Chicago to help with the search, but Bam Bam was dropped off at the police station mere days before they were set to go up. Because everything was already planned and paid for, the same billboards will still be plastered throughout Chicago, but will have a label clarifying that the dog was already rescued. It's unclear if the pair that dropped Bam Bam off at the police station played a role in his disappearance. Detectives are still investigating. No one has been taken into custody.
