Instagram debuts new features including map, reposts and Friends tab

Yahoo07-08-2025
Instagram has rolled out a new slate of new features it says will help users better connect with friends, from reposts to updating locations and more.
Below, find out what you should know about the new Instagram features, how to use them, and what to do if you're concerned about privacy.
What are the new Instagram features?
Meta, Instagram's parent company, announced several new updates to the popular photo and video sharing app on Thursday including reposts, a new "Friends" tab and maps to connect further with friends through content.
Repost Reels and posts
Users can now repost Reels from public profiles and in-feed posts to share with their own followers.
The reposted content, which is credited to the original poster, will go to friends' and followers' feeds and appear in a separate profile tab to make it easier to look back at the content you've reposted.
New Instagram map to share location
Users can "choose to responsibly share your location with friends you pick" using the new Instagram map, Meta said Thursday.
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, shared an update on his account with a more detailed explanation, clarifying the opt-in nature of the new map feature.
"Your location will only be shared *if* you decide to share it, and if you do, it can only shared with a limited group of people you choose," he wrote in the caption of a post. "To start, location sharing is *completely off.*"
For those who decide to share location, Mosseri said the three audience-sharing options are "(1) a custom list you make, (2) your Close Friends list, or (3) or followers you follow back."
When users share locations in their stories, they will show up on the location map for 24 hours.
Mosseri added that "as always with Stories, this only shows the place you tagged to your followers -- it does not share your real-time or live location."
Additionally, Meta said Thursday that parents with Instagram supervision set up for their teens "have control over their location sharing experience on the map."
"You will receive a notification if your teen starts sharing their location, giving you the opportunity to have important conversations about how to safely share with friends," the company said. "You can decide whether your teen has access to location sharing on the map and see who your teen is sharing their location with."
Friends tab in Reels
The third new Instagram feature Meta announced Thursday is the so-called "Friends" tab in Reels, which the company said will allow users to see "public content your friends have interacted with, or recommendations from Blends you've started, and easily start conversations about them."
The new feature, which Meta said began rolling out "earlier this year" before launching globally, can be found at the top of the Reels tab.
"We're also rolling out controls for what's shown in the Friends tab, including the ability to hide your own likes and comments on reels, and to mute activity bubbles from specific people you follow," the company said.
To edit or opt out of the Friends Reels activity feature, users can go to their "Settings and activity" page, scroll down to "Activity in Friends tab" and select the audience with whom they wish to share their Reels activity, which includes an option to share the activity with "no one."

Bitcoin will grow at 30% per year for the next decade, says Bitwise. Here's what price it targets

Forget the 7% you'll get from stocks or the 4% from bonds. Bitwise forecasts that Bitcoin will deliver investors nearly 30% annually through 2035. In a Tuesday note to investors, Matt Hougan, chief investment officer at Bitwise, predicted Bitcoin will enjoy a 28.3% compound annual growth rate over the next 10 years. That would send Bitcoin from today's $113,000 to roughly $1.4 million in 2035. It's a bold call from the asset manager, but one that reflects a profound shift on Wall Street. For the first time, major institutional platforms managing trillions of dollars are asking for long-term Bitcoin forecasts. Not one or two requests, but 12 in January alone, according to Bitwise. 'Twelve may not sound like much, but it is: Most of the new requests came from large national account platforms that handle hundreds of billions or trillions of dollars in assets,' wrote Hougan. 'Multiply 12 by half a trillion dollars and you're talking about real money.' Moonshot math At 28.3% annual growth, the numbers get wild fast. Starting from today's $113,000 tag, Bitcoin would hit $145,000 by year's end. By 2027, it breaks $240,000. Come 2030, we're talking half a million per coin. And in 2035, Hougan predicts, Bitcoin will change hands for a staggering $1.4 million. For context, that would give Bitcoin a market capitalisation of roughly $28 trillion — larger than the entire US Treasury market today, and well above twice the size of gold's market cap. Compound annual growth rate is the average yearly growth an investment would have if it rose at a steady pace. In short, it smooths out the ups and downs and shows the consistent percentage gain needed each year to get from today's value to the predicted future one. From zero to 12 Before 2025, exactly zero major institutional platforms had asked Bitwise for long-term Bitcoin projections. Now, 12 large entities have been knocking at their door. What changed? For one, spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds launched in January 2024, opening the faucet for once-sidelined funds to flow freely into Bitcoin-related instruments. Those ETFs now hold around 1.2 million Bitcoin worth about $144 billion, according to a Dune Analytics dashboard. ETF investors have come to change the game, according to Hougan. 'Professional investors mostly thought of bitcoin as an idiosyncratic, opportunistic investment,' said Hougan. But now that they're now asking for long-term capital market assumptions, it suggests that they've shifted their view, said Hougan. 'It's no longer a one-off for the fringes of the portfolio; it's starting to be considered for the core.' Treasuries and regulation But ETFs are only one reason. Bitcoin treasury companies have been quickly devouring every available coin on the market. According to Bitcoin Treasuries, the top 100 Bitcoin treasuries hold roughly 983,816 Bitcoin worth about $113 billion. And importantly, there's fresh regulation. In mid-July, Donald Trump signed the Genius Act into law, the first major crypto bill to see the light of day in the US. It is also the first of two major crypto bills the president has urged Congress to pass this year. SEC Chair Paul Atkins has also announced a deregulation campaign dubbed 'Project Crypto.' Lots of assumptions Of course, projecting 30% annual returns for a decade assumes a lot. It assumes regulatory clarity continues to improve. It assumes no catastrophic technical failures. It assumes institutions keep buying, treasuries keep stacking, and the four-year boom-bust cycle that has defined Bitcoin since inception truly is dead. Additionally, it assumes that volatility — which Bitwise acknowledges will remain high — doesn't scare off the institutional money the projection depends on. Still, even if Bitwise is half right, Bitcoin at $400,000 by 2035 would represent a price tag that only the boldest of Bitcoin predictions have imagined. Watch These Palantir Price Levels as Stock Continues Retreat From Record High

Key Takeaways Palantir shares slid Wednesday to log their sixth straight day of declines, after a short seller raised concerns about the stock's elevated valuation. Yesterday's move lower coincided with the relative strength index falling into bearish territory, signaling an acceleration in selling momentum. Investors should watch crucial support levels on Palantir's chart around $148, $125, and $98. while also monitoring a key overhead area just below the stock's record high near $188. Palantir (PLTR) shares slid Wednesday to log their sixth straight day of declines, after a short seller raised concerns about the stock's elevated valuation. The stock lost 1% to finish Wednesday's session around $156, roughly 16% off their record close last Tuesday. At one point during Wednesday session, the stock dropped nearly 10% to $142, almost 24% from last week's highs. Short seller Andrew Left of Citron Research, who expressed concerns about the stock's valuation in a Fox Business interview last week, said in a report Monday that he believes the stock has become "detached from fundamentals" and should be worth closer to $40. While Wall Street analysts have applauded the data analytics software maker's record revenue growth fueled by robust demand for its AI-powered platform, there is growing consensus that it's fully priced into the shares. Even after their steep pullback, Palantir shares have more than doubled in value this year. Below, we take a closer look at Palantir's chart and apply technical analysis to identify crucial price levels worth watching out for. Relative Strength Index Falls Into Bearish Territory After hitting an all-time high just last week, Palantir shares have continued to retrace toward the 50-day moving average (MA), with selling intensifying in Tuesday's trading session. Moreover, the move lower coincided with the relative strength index (RSI) falling into bearish territory, signaling an acceleration in selling momentum. It's also worth pointing out that Tuesday's decline occurred on the highest trading volume since late June, indicating larger market participants drove the sell-off. Let's identify three crucial support levels to watch on Palantir's chart if the shares continue to fall and also point out a key overhead area worth monitoring during possible upswings. Support Levels to Watch The first support level to watch sits around $148. A pullback to this level could attract buying interest near the late June peak and a period of sideways drift during the second half of July. This location lies in the same neighborhood as a bars pattern downside target that takes a prior retracement to the 50-day MA and repositions it from this month's high. That move also started with five consecutive down days. A close below this crucial level could see the shares test lower support around $125. Investors may seek entry points in this area near the prominent February peak and a series of corresponding trading activity on the chart between May and June. Further selling could spark a deeper correction in the shares to the $98 level. This region on the chart may provide support near the March countertrend peak, which also closely aligns with a retest of the 50-day MA in mid April. Key Overhead Area Worth Monitoring During upswings in the stock, investors could monitor how the price responds to the $188 area. Investors who have bought Palantir's recent dip could decide to lock in profits near price action situated just below the stock's record high.
