K.N. Nehru questions EPS silence on Amit Shah's statement on forming coalition government
Speaking to reporters here, he said AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswamy was claiming for so long that it would form a grand alliance to take on the DMK alliance. Some leaders claimed that some constituents of the DMK alliance would break away from it. But the DMK alliance remained strong. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had said that differences, if any, with the alliance partners would be sorted out at the time of election.
On the other hand, the AIADMK was yet to take a clear stand on forming a government on its own or leading a coalition government. It was initially stated that the AIADMK would lead the National Democratic Alliance government, if it won the election. Home Minister Amit Shah, when he visited Madurai recently stated that the NDA would form a coalition government. However, Mr. Palanisamy was yet to answer the doubts raised after Mr. Shah's statement.
Mr. Nehru said the party cadre would go door-to-door under the 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' campaign to enrol one crore members in the party. They would enrol new members by explaining the achievements of the DMK government and the anti-people actions of BJP government at the centre.
On the AIADMK's protest over the delay in opening the new integrated bus terminus in Tiruchi, the Minister said that it had no right to talk about it as it had done nothing to build a new bus stand. The process of identifying a company for operation and maintenance of the new bus terminus was on. A committee that met in Chennai on Monday to take a decision on it had raised some queries. Action had been taken to answer them immediately. The bus terminus would be brought to use within one to two weeks.

DMK allies' demand for more seats to be resolved through talks, says T.N. CM Stalin
DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said the 'demand of alliance partners for more seats' would be resolved through discussions once the Assembly election date is announced. Speaking to reporters during the launch of 'Tamil Nadu Under One Front' at Anna Arivalayam on Tuesday (July 1, 2025), he said new parties could join the DMK alliance under the current circumstances. 'When the situation arises, we will sit together and hold talks to include them,' he said, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister and Youth Wing leader Udhayanidhi Stalin. He said the DMK have been fully prepared for the elections for a long time. 'We have a goal of winning 200 seats. I hope we will exceed that number,' the Chief Minister said. When asked about Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement in Madurai that he would visit Tamil Nadu more frequently, Mr. Stalin said both Mr. Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should visit the State more often. 'They have the habit of uttering lies during their visits to Tamil Nadu, and the people are aware of it. It will work in our favour during the elections. They should also not replace the Governor (R.N. Ravi), as he has caused more harm than good. He cannot win over the people, even if he tries to do something positive,' he said. Regarding AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami's plan to begin a public outreach campaign from July 7, Mr. Stalin said the DMK had launched its programme long ago, and the Opposition leader was beginning only now. 'We will also explain to the people the achievements of the DMK government,' he said. When asked whether he would visit Mr. Palaniswami's house during the campaign, the Chief Minister said it would depend on the circumstances. 'We have shared responsibilities across the party. Depending on the situation, others may visit. If I happen to be in the area, I will certainly visit his house,' he said. Top schemes Mr. Stalin highlighted the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme, Magalir Urimai Thittam, and Magalir Vidiyal Payanam Scheme as the top three schemes of the DMK government. 'We have completed 60% of the Magalir Urimai Thittam. Many forms were not filled properly, so we plan to organise a camp in September,' he said. The Chief Minister said the DMK aimed to enroll 30% of people in each constituency as party members. 'But in many places, our party leaders have promised to enroll 40% of the people,' he said. Though the DMK's outreach includes engaging with members of the Opposition, Mr. Stalin emphasised that the party would not force anyone to join. 'We will leave it to them,' he said. When asked about alleged wrongdoings by officials, particularly in custodial deaths, the Chief Minister said the government takes action whenever such issues are brought to its attention. 'Even today, we have taken action against (police) officials,' he said.

‘No issue' in alliance with BJP, says AIADMK
The recent assertion of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami that his party would secure a majority on its own in the 2026 Assembly poll and form a government is viewed in certain quarters as a message to the party's ally, the BJP. The Dravidian major, however, says that there is 'no issue' in its alliance with the national party. Mr. Palaniswami's clarification on the nature of government, made at a public event in Ulundurpettai of the Kallakurichi district on Sunday (June 29, 2025), came a few days after Union Minister for Home Affairs and BJP's senior leader Amit Shah's interview to a couple of Tamil dailies last week, wherein he made it clear that there would be a coalition government in Tamil Nadu after the Assembly election. Addressing a public meeting at Melavalavu near Madurai on Monday (June 30), founder of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Thol. Thirumavalavan stated that he viewed Mr. Palaniswami's assertion as a point of contradiction between the position of the AIADMK and that of Mr. Shah. As far as the idea of a coalition government in the State is concerned, there is little difference between the two Dravidian majors. In 2006, even when the DMK did not obtain a majority of its own, it ran a single-party government for the next five years with outside support of parties, including the Congress. As for the AIADMK, former Minister Vaigaichelvan told the media recently that the concept would 'never and ever' find acceptance among the people of the State. What the Dravidian majors have in mind is the failure of the DMK-Congress combine in capturing power in the 1980 Assembly election when the constituents of the coalition contested an equal number of seats and after a round of wrangling between the two parties, the Congress had agreed to have the then DMK chief M. Karunanidhi projected as the alliance's candidate for the post of Chief Minister. But at the hustings, the coalition did not click, whereas the AIADMK returned to power in a spectacular fashion. When asked whether Mr. Palaniswami's speech was a message to the BJP, former Revenue Minister and the AIADMK's deputy floor leader in the Assembly R.B. Udhayakumar told The Hindu on Tuesday (July 1) that the announcement regarding the alliance was made in April only after a 'detailed discussion' between Mr. Palaniswami and Mr. Shah. 'So, there is no issue in the coalition. However, the issue is only over the understanding the language used,' Mr. Udhayakumar explained.
