Yes, Here's What Katy Perry Sang In Space
Well, Katy Perry has hurtled back to earth safely — with the news that she apparently started singing in space.
No, this is not The Onion — earlier today, Katy joined Gayle King and Lauren Sánchez on an all-female space flight. The whole thing is significantly less impressive once you realize A) They only spent around four minutes in space, B) The whole thing was orchestrated by Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin.
In a video prior to the mission, Katy told her followers, "I think I'm gonna sing, sing a little bit. I gotta sing in space!'
Shipmate Gayle told reporters, "When we got back in our seats after Zero-G, Katy sang 'What A Wonderful World.'" You know, the Louis Armstrong song.
"We'd been asking her to sing all the time and she wouldn't. Everybody said, 'Sing "Roar," sing "Firework," and she said, "It's not about me. I wanted to talk about the world,'" Gayle continued.
As for what Katy had to say, she explained of her song choice, 'I've covered that song in the past and obviously my higher self is always steering the ship because I had no idea that one day I'd be singing that song in space.'
'It's not about me. It's not about singing my songs. It's about a collective energy and making space for future women. It's about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it. This is all for the benefit of Earth," she continued.
Plus, "Firework" would have been a hair ominious...

Katy Perry fan arrested, stormed on stage during ‘The Lifetimes Tour'
(NewsNation) — A man has been arrested and charged after storming the stage during Katy Perry's Sydney, Australia leg of 'The Lifetimes Tour.' During Perry's performance of her hit 'Hot N Cold,' a fan climbed up on stage before being detained by security. Burwood Police Area Command said he has been charged with two offenses. Sabrina Carpenter announces new album 'Man's Best Friend' The man was reportedly released on bail and is scheduled for court on June 23. He is also banned for six months from the Sydney Olympic Park precinct. In videos taken by crowd members, an unnamed man is seen running toward Perry as she is taking the mic off its stand. Perry was visually caught off guard and swerved to dodge the man's arm on her shoulder. She still continued her performance, screaming, 'Well, there's never going to be another show like this, Sydney, so just enjoy it!' She can also be heard screaming, 'What the hell is going on?' to the audience. King Charles, Prince William expected at Trooping the Colour; no Harry Two security guards eventually chase the man offstage, with another staff member walking closely behind. Fans reacted to the viral video on social media, with some saying Perry 'handled it well' and others criticizing her for reacting in the way that she did. Another fan criticized security, saying, 'omg that's not okay — why didn't the security do something BEFORE???? i mean katy handled it professionally and didn't panic, true performer behavior.' It has definitely not been an easy year for the pop star. One source told NewsNation's Paula Froelich in May that her Las Vegas residency had been called a 'complete failure.' R. Kelly attorney wants singer moved to home detention 'There was a bidding war between Resorts World and Caesars … and Caesars technically lost out — but in the end, Caesars won,' a source said. 'The residency was a disaster for Resorts World, a complete failure.' The source also claimed that Perry was being paid 'between $750,000 and $900,000 a show because of the bidding war,' but she 'underperformed and Resorts World lost money.' Perry does have one show scheduled for Vegas during this tour, but it isn't a full residency. On top of her failed album last year, she was also recently the center of ridicule after the Blue Origin space flight. Her current tour has also had lagging sales. After the flight, the singer faced backlash because she spent most of her three minutes looking into the camera instead of out the window at Earth. She showed a daisy for her daughter and then the setlist for The Lifetimes Tour. Perry was slammed on X by regular users and celebrities. Actress Olivia Munn criticized the space mission before its launch, saying, 'I know that this is probably obnoxious – but like, it's so much money to go to space. You know, there's a lot of people that can't even afford eggs.' Even the fast-food chain Wendy's talked about Perry, commenting on a picture of her kissing the ground, saying, 'Can we send her back.' Inside Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom Relationship Rumors: Fact Vs. Fiction
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are fielding reports that claim there is tension in their relationship, following the release of Katy's album "143" and her current Lifetimes Tour. Katy's recent breakup comment during a Sydney show intensified speculation that she and Orlando are going through a turbulent time. The headlines vary in severity, with People reporting that the stress stems from Katy's frustration over the reception of her new album and tour – though recent concert reviews have been positive and Lifetimes' Australian leg is completely sold out. Page Six, meanwhile, has the most extreme assertion about Katy and Orlando's status, with a source telling the outlet that the pair is waiting to split until the tour is over. When Access Hollywood's Kit Hoover sat down with Katy in January, however, there were nothing but positive vibes. Katy's team had no comment when contacted by Access, and Orlando's reps did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Craig Melvin Panics Over Hoda Kotb Run-In After 'Today' Exit: 'I Thought She Wanted It All Back'
Even five months into his time as a co-anchor on Today, Craig Melvin is watching his back. The 46-year-old journalist took over Hoda Kotb's news desk seat in January after Kotb made the decision to leave the Today show in favor of getting in more time with her daughters Haley, 8, and Hope, 6. "I saw Hoda yesterday and she was up on the fifth floor and she was getting ready to tape one of her podcasts and she came through the door,' Melvin shared on Today on June 11. 'And I was like, 'Uh-oh.'' Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Why was Melvin worried? The father of two admitted of Kotb, 'I thought she wanted it all back." Melvin's co-anchors Carson Daly, Savannah Guthrie, Jenna Bush Hager and Al Roker quickly reassured him that Kotb wasn't going to come back and take his new job. 'I think somebody needs a hug,' Roker quipped, standing up and embracing Melvin. 'You're good enough, and dog gone it, you're likable.' Guthrie, who shares the news desk with Melvin, added, 'You're the one we want. It's yours now, whether you like it or not.' 'No, I love it,' Melvin said, before jokingly adding, 'most days.' Daly had a bold suggestion, telling Melvin, 'You should put it in your next contract that you get to keep all your clothes and that Hoda's not allowed in the building anymore.' But Melvin quickly replied, 'No, no!' Ahead of taking over the role in January, Melvin admitted to PEOPLE that he was nervous yet excited. 'I'm anxious but at the same time, it's the first time I've been this excited about anything outside the day I got married and the birth of my two children,' Melvin previously told PEOPLE. 'I am beyond stoked.' Kotb told PEOPLE of Melvin, 'He is the natural perfect person. I told him, 'There's nothing to be worried about. You have all the things that you need.' ' Last month, Kotb opened up to PEOPLE about her difficult decision to leave the NBC morning show after 17 years. 'It's really cool to just realize that there's so much more to life,' she said. 'I wasn't able to bear witness to my kids' daily lives because of what I was doing. I got to see Haley sing 'What a Wonderful World' at 9:15 a.m. — I would have missed that. I used to think life was the big things, but it really is all the stuff that happens in between.' Kotb has also been grappling with her daughter Hope's type 1 diabetes diagnosis, an autoimmune disease that prevents the pancreas from making its own insulin, requiring vigilant blood sugar monitoring and frequent insulin injections. 'It's kind of constant care for Hope. We're monitoring her 24/7,' she said, calling her daughter a 'trooper' for having had to deal with the unpleasant realities of treatment.
