Riveiro: The next Pirates coach will be the right man for the job

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has assured the club fans that his successor will be the right man for the job.
Riveiro will leave Pirates at the end of the current season after deciding against renewing his contract beyond June.
Now, all eyes are on the Pirates boss Dr Irvin Khoza to see who he will appoint to fill the big shoes that will be left by Riveiro.
The Spaniard will go down as one of the most successful coaches in the history of the Sea Robbers.
He has won five major trophies for Pirates in his three-year stint, and it could be six before he departs the club.
And that's if Pirates beat Kaizer Chiefs in Saturday's Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Now, speaking to the media on Tuesday, Riveiro said it is not because of his project that Pirates have done well but that of the club.
He believes the blueprint is there, and that whoever comes in to take over will have it easy to continue where he left off.

ORLANDO PIRATES FANS SHOULDN'T BE CONCERNED – RIVEIRO
'This is a club project, not a Riveiro project, I've answered this question many, many times,' said Riveiro as per FARPost.
'The club knows what they are doing. Whoever is coming is going to be the right person and will have the support and will find himself in a good platform to continue where we're going to stop at the end of the season.
'Football is a cycle, and Orlando Pirates is a huge institution; nothing is going to change because Riveiro is in or out.
'The Buccaneers don't need to be concerned about that because the future is brilliant for the club, and it's going to be alright.'
DOES HE KNOW THE NEXT BUCS COACH ALREADY?

Kaizer Chiefs set sights on free agent sensation Velebayi again

Kaizer Chiefs have reignited their pursuit of exciting winger Asanele Velebayi, now a free agent after Cape Town Spurs' dramatic relegation to the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League. Amakhosi are determined not to miss out on the 22-year-old again after their previous attempt to sign him before the 2024/2025 season collapsed. Back then, Cape Town Spurs, known as the Urban Warriors, refused to let go of one of their brightest prospects. But circumstances have changed, and Chiefs are ready to act. Spurs were recently relegated after losing a legal battle involving Durban City and their player Sazi Magawana. The ruling had a domino effect on the club's status, freeing Velebayi from his contract and placing him firmly on the radar of top-tier teams. Velebayi's representatives had been awaiting the outcome of the case before weighing up options for his next move. With the situation now clear, negotiations have kicked off, and Kaizer Chiefs are one of the first clubs to show serious intent. While Velebayi's name has drawn interest from multiple teams, it's the Soweto giants who appear most determined to bring him onboard. 'Several clubs have expressed interest in the talented young winger,' said a source. 'But Chiefs are hopeful they can secure his signature.' The winger's camp is actively seeking the best fit for his career, and a final decision is expected imminently. Chiefs are looking to strengthen their attacking options after a lacklustre season in front of goal. Adding Velebayi, known for his blistering pace and sharp footwork, would mark a significant boost to their squad depth. 'If successful, Velebhayi's signing would be a good signing for Chiefs,' the source confirmed. Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Why in-demand Fawaaz Basadien should steer clear of Kaizer Chiefs

Basadien's possible future move Stellenbosch FC defender and stand-in Bafana Bafana captain Fawaaz Basadien is in demand after an impressive season for his club. Photo: Alche Greeff/BackpagePix Image: Alche Greeff/BackpagePix Fawaaz Basadien is the man of the moment in South African football currently. The left back, arguably the best in the country, was named Stellenbosch FC's Player of the Season recently after some impressive form for the Cape Winelands side. The cherry on top for Basadien was the 27-year-old being named as the stand-in skipper for Bafana Bafana, as Ronwen Williams is away at the FIFA Club World Cup. It's been a good year for the former Moroka Swallows man. Naturally, the monied clubs in Gauteng have been lining up and are interested in his services. According to reports, Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Orlando Pirates all want to sign him. Not many local footballers get a chance to pick between one of the big three. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad Loading Addressing those rumours ahead of Bafana's game against Tanzania on Friday, the defender said: 'Obviously, all the rumours and stuff are nice to have as a player. But my main focus is to use whatever opportunity I get to play and keep doing what I do and keep improving every day. 'So, whatever happens in the background is just part of the rumours that have been created. But for me, in football, there comes a time where you want to achieve greater things – maybe play for the so-called big teams or make big moves.' So, with that being said, where should he go next? For many, the logical answer would be Mamelodi Sundowns. At Chloorkop, Basadien would land in a very stable situation, where every player knows what is expected of them and clear goals are set. While Sundowns supporters are passionate about their club, they're not as vocal and opinionated as those from other clubs. If he struggles to settle in, they would be patient enough to give him time to get used to his new surroundings. The same can't be said about fans of the Soweto clubs. While Pirates are more settled as a football operation, Chiefs are not. The club have just finished outside of the top half for a second successive season and are in desperate need of open-heart surgery. Kaizer Chiefs would be completely the wrong move for a player who is starting to make a name for himself on the international stage. And we all know how quickly Chiefs supporters can turn on players who don't hit the ground running. Basadien must think carefully now. He's not a youngster anymore, and this next move could define the rest of his career. A switch to Sundowns makes sense if he wants silverware and structure, but he'll have to fight for his place every week. Pirates might offer him that balance – game time and prestige – while Chiefs, honestly, look like a gamble right now. Whatever he chooses, the ball's at his feet. And in South African football, that's a rare kind of power. KZN Treasury banking on Comrades Marathon to give local tourism a boost

DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal's Treasury Department has described Comrades Marathon as a major boost for the province's economy. Thousands have booked accommodation in Pietermaritzburg and Durban ahead of the marathon. The race will start in Pietermaritzburg and end at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. Finance MEC Francious Rodgers said the province always gets excited to host this event. 'It's obviously one of those really big events that we are proud of. It has a history in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, and it's not a South African event, it's an international event.' He said the hospitality industry will do business this weekend. 'And if you try and to get accommodation in Durban and Pietermaritzburg over the weekend, it's fully covered, booked, and that's exactly what we want.'
