Yogi Adityanath flags conversion 'conspiracy', warns of efforts to divide Hindus and Sikhs

Adityanath made the remarks at the flagging-off of UP-Delhi Sandesh Yatra, being held to mark the 350th martyrdom day of
Guru Teg Bahadur
.
He hosted the yatris at his official residence here.
The Sandesh Yatra will start from Lucknow and culminate at Chandni Chowk Sheeshganj Gurudwara in Delhi, the UP government said in a statement.

Adityanath said that some cases of conversion have come to the fore in Pilibhit also, and asked the people to be a "little cautious" of religious conversions.
"You must have seen what kind of conspiracy is going on. We have recently taken a big action in Balrampur. You must have seen that he had fixed the rates. That is, how to take forward the programme of conversion.
"He had fixed the rates for converting Hindus, Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Sikhs, other OBC castes, Scheduled Castes and (Scheduled) Tribes. Money was coming in from abroad. Just think, transactions worth more than Rs 100 crore have been received in his 40 accounts so far," the chief minister said.
He said that he had dispatched a team to the district to conduct '
ghar wapsi
' (returning to original faith) of the converted.
Adityanath said that some forces are trying to change the nature of the country in a planned manner and conspiring to break the religious harmony.

UP Anti-Terrorism Squad
on July 6 arrested Jalaluddin alias Chhangur Baba and Neetu alias Nasreen, both natives of Madhpur in Balrampur district, for allegedly running a massive conversion racket.
The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday said it had found inputs that suggested that the man amassed funds worth about Rs 106 crore, mainly from the Middle East, in 40 bank accounts linked to him and his associates, agency sources said.
At the event, Adityanath paid his tributes to the Sikh gurus and hailed them for their sacrifice.
"Circumstances have changed. Their objective is the same as it was at that time. Yes, they have changed their way of working. And this event is inspiring all of us for the purpose for which the Sikh Gurus had sacrificed their lives," he said.
"Remember that many people will try to create divisions between Hindus and Sikhs. There is a conspiracy among us to divide us and weaken us. Who will save us from this? We will have to be cautious," the BJP leader said.
Adityanath also mentioned

and denounced him for his atrocities.
"What a time it must have been when there was a cruel and brutal ruler like Aurangzeb. At that time, news of atrocities came from not just one place but from everywhere," he said.
He said the ruler started a massive campaign of Islamisation, which was challenged by Guru Teg Bahadur Ji Maharaj.
"And what atrocities were not committed on him," he said.

Income Tax Appellate Tribunal dismisses Congress appeal against Rs 199 crore tax assessment
Denying relief to the Indian National Congress, the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) on Monday dismissed an appeal by the party against a tax demand of ₹199.15 crore for the year 2018-19. Late return filing and violations of cash donation limits were among the main grounds due to which the ITAT rejected the party's claim for tax exemption. 'The assessee's return filed on 02.02.2019 is not within the 'due' date to make it eligible for the impugned exemption,' ruled the coram on July 21. The INC had filed its income tax return on February 2, 2019 – over a month after the extended due date of December 31, 2018, prescribed under the IT Act. It had declared income after claiming an exemption of Rs. 199.15 crores. Another issue that the ITAT looked at was a violation of cash donation limits. According to scrutiny proceedings, the party had received ₹14.49 lakh in cash donations exceeding ₹2,000 from various individuals. Donations above ₹ 2,000 can only be received through banking channels like account payee cheques or electronic transfers as per the Finance Act, 2017. 'As per section 13A(d) of the Act, donation in excess of ₹2,000/- is mandatorily be received through a/c payee cheque/draft or through electronic mode and therefore donation in excess of ₹2,000/- received in cash violates provisions of clause (d) of first proviso to section 13A of the Act,' the ITAT order stated. The Congress tried to find respite in Section 139(4) of the IT Act which states that if an individual misses the ITR filing deadline, they can still file a belated return, subject to penalties. The ITAT, however, denied it relief. '…it is manifestly clear that the legislature has incorporated the statutory expression therein as 'within the time allowed under that section' i.e. section 139(1) as well as u/s 139(4)…we thus reject the assessee's instant first and foremost substantive grievance in very terms and decide the above first question framed between the parties; in the department's favour,' the tribunal ruled.

India, Maldives in discussions to negotiate free trade pact: Foreign secy
India and Maldives are currently "in discussions" to negotiate a Free Trade Agreement as well as an investment treaty to bolster the economic ties between the two nations, coupled with new areas of collaboration such as renewable energy and fisheries, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated on Tuesday. Addressing a press briefing ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Maldives, Misri elaborated on the burgeoning economic relationship between the two countries, noting that India was one of the biggest trade partners of the Maldives, with bilateral trade reaching nearly $500 million, with Indian investments already in Maldivian sectors like tourism. "On the economic front, India is one of the largest trading partners of the Maldives. The bilateral trade is nearly $500 million, and Indian investors remain part of sectors such as tourism in the Maldives and other economic activities. On the economic front, one recent development which I would like to share with you is that both countries are in discussions to negotiate a free trade agreement and an investment treaty as well, and new areas of cooperation, including renewable energy, fisheries, etc., are also being worked on," Misri stated. Beyond trade, Misri highlighted India's role as a traditional development partner for the Maldives, executing projects through concessional lines of credit, grants, and buyer's credit facilities. He emphasised that the flagship Greater Male Connectivity Project, which connects four islands of the Maldives, is poised to transform the region's infrastructure, while mentioning other initiatives include roads, airports, fisheries processing units, and social housing projects tailored to the Maldives' priorities. "One of the largest areas of bilateral cooperation is the development partnership between the two countries. India has been a traditional development partner of the Maldives, executing various initiatives through a mix of lines of credit at concessional rates, grants, and buyer's credit facilities, and also conducting capacity-building programmes in a number of areas," the Foreign Secretary said. "The flagship project that is underway currently is the Greater Male Connectivity Project, which has the potential to be an infrastructure game changer in the Greater Male region, connecting four islands of the Maldives. There are also projects underway in the area of roads, airports, fisheries processing units and others. We are also alleviating the pressure by helping with social housing as per the needs and priorities of the Maldives," he added. Misri also noted India's financial support, including a $400 million and Rs 30 billion twin currency swap arrangement during Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu's visit last year, alongside the State Bank of India's continued subscription to Maldivian treasury bills. "We've extended a considerable amount of emergency financial assistance to the Government of Maldives, including through instruments such as the twin currency swap arrangements that were done when President Muizzu was also here for $400 million as well as Rs 30 billion. In addition, the State Bank of India has continued to resubscribe to Maldives's treasury bills," the Foreign Secretary said. The partnership between the two nations also extends to capacity-building, with the Maldives being a major beneficiary of Indian scholarships and training programmes. In defence and security, India supports the Maldives through training programmes, naval exercises, and assets for maritime domain awareness, including ships for Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance. "India continues to assist Maldives in building its capacity to train Maldives defence personnel, and a lot of this is done through regular training programmes and naval exercises between the two countries. We've been helping Maldives enhance its capacity for EEZ surveillance and maritime domain awareness through the provision of ships and assets. The two countries are also cooperating under the gamut of the Colombo security conclave," he noted. Misri further underscored the multifaceted India-Maldives relationship, stating, "The relationship with the Maldives is comprehensive and multifaceted. It's been paid attention to by leadership at the highest levels, and we believe that this visit by the Prime Minister will contribute further to consolidating these strong ties and contribute to peace, prosperity, and security in the Indian Ocean region." According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Maldives has been a very close and important partner in India's neighbourhood as part of New Delhi's neighbourhood-first policy as well as its MAHASAGAR Vision. Notably, ties between New Delhi and Male were strained after Maldivian officials made derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Modi in early January last year. However, during the visit of Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer in April 2024, Zameer distanced his government from the derogatory remarks made by these officials, stating that it was not the government's stance and that "proper action" had been taken to ensure it was not repeated. PM Modi will embark on his two-nation tour of the UK and the Maldives from July 23 to July 26, the MEA had said on Sunday. He will be visiting the Maldives on July 25 on a state visit at the invitation of President Mohamed Muizzu. He has been invited as the 'Guest of Honour' for the 60th Anniversary celebrations of the Independence of Maldives on July 26. Notably, the visit by PM Modi comes at a historic juncture as New Delhi and Male are marking their 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. This will be the Prime Minister's third visit to the Maldives and the first visit by a Head of State or Government to the Maldives during the Presidency of Mohamed Muizzu.

Over Rs 44 crore released under MGNREGS so far: Centre tells Lok Sabha
Last Updated: New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI) The Centre has released Rs 44,323 crore to states and union territories under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) so far, Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. In a written reply, the minister gave the figures of disbursements of wages, material and admin components till July 17, 2025. According to the revelation, the amount disbursed is almost half of the total allocation of Rs 86,000 crore earmarked for the financial year 2025-26. In a written reply to a separate question, MoS Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan said the allocation included full pending wage liabilities and 50 per cent of Material Liabilities of the previous financial year. 'Regarding budget allocation for Mahatma Gandhi NREGS it is submitted that, for the financial year 2024-25, budget allocation of Rs. 86,000 crore has been made, which was the highest ever allocation for the scheme at the Budget Estimate (BE) stage since inception. In the financial year 2025-26, the Government has retained this allocation at Rs 86,000 crore, ensuring continued support for rural employment," Chouhan said. He said that keeping in view the demand-driven nature of the scheme, the rural development ministry closely monitors demand for employment at the ground level and seeks additional funds from the Finance as and when required.
