Selena Gomez Backs the Elegant Sandal Trend Every Well-Dressed Celebrity Is Styling This Summer
At this point, Selena Gomez probably requires a separate closet solely for her all-black attire. Based on this year's looks alone, her wardrobe is likely bursting at the seams with noir pieces sourced by stylist Erin Walsh from Jacquemus, Thom Browne, Saint Laurent, and Khaite (to name a few ateliers). To no surprise, this consistent color story stretches onto Gomez's shoe shelves, too.
Her newest addition? $890 T-strap sandals, courtesy of Proenza Schouler—a New York-based brand long beloved by Gomez. On July 13, she publicly wore the cable-wrapped kitten heels on the second occasion, at a dinner date with her fiancé, Benny Blanco.
Outside Giorgio Baldi (Rihanna's signature Santa Monica spot), the power couple was snapped by the paparazzi in contrasting outfits. Gomez styled her monochromatic look with the aforementioned sandals, which featured flip-flop-esque thongs, leather cables surrounding each upper, and two-inch kitten heels. She's following the leads of Hailey Bieber, Kylie Jenner, and Kendall Jenner, all of whom have co-signed the kitten heel sandal trend this summer.
Blanco, on the other hand, went retro in a floral button-down, khakis, and boat shoes.

Gomez's luxe LBDs are the envy of any minimalist, but this time, she chose the staple's business-ready counterpart: a black suit set. On top, the Only Murders star layered a boat-neck blouse underneath a single-breasted blazer. Then, she slipped on flared trousers, also in black, to match.
To no surprise, Gomez's estimated $225,000 engagement ring was front and center, and appeared to be her only sparkler that evening. A black patent leather crossbody shined atop her shoulder, while its fringed top-flap closure mimicked her cable-embellished sandals.
Sure, Gomez's LBD-less look was surprising, but she's not experiencing mini dress fatigue yet. A few days prior, she celebrated Rare Beauty's new lip gloss in a Self-Portrait fit-and-flare mini dress—the black color-way, of course. She debuted the Proenza Schouler sandals at the beachside soirée, alongside an Ulla Johnson coat and $2,150 Gabriel and Co. hoop earrings.
Black-on-black might not be an obvious summer styling selection, but according to Gomez, it's a timeless one. Nearly all of her ensemble could fit in your fall, winter, or spring rotations. (Kitten-heel sandals are definitely reserved for summer.)

Winona Ryder says she still plays poker with Al Pacino
US actress Winona Ryder has said she still plays poker with Hollywood star Al Pacino and that she once confessed her love to him. Ryder, 53, is best known for starring in Tim Burton's 1988 movie Beetlejuice and its 2024 sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, along with playing Joyce Byers in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. She worked with The Godfather star Pacino, 85, in the films Simone (2002) and Looking For Richard (1996), adding that she was 'actively' in love with him. Ryder, who fronts the September issue of ELLE UK, told the magazine: 'I was absolutely in love with Al Pacino when I was working with him. 'We were doing that workshop for Richard III, which I didn't know was gonna be a movie. I was actively in love with him. 'He was obsessed with coffee, and he would take me all over New York – like, to the weirdest places – to try different coffees. I'm 22, or whatever. Finally, he's dropping me off wherever I'm staying, and I'm like, 'I love you, you know. I really am completely in love with you.' And he was like: 'Aw, honey, noooo.' 'Then, like 10 years later, I meet his girlfriend, who's younger than me. 'I still play poker with him sometimes. It's the best.' With a career spanning decades, Ryder credits actress Laura Dern for helping her navigate the industry and taking her under her wing. She said: 'I don't think I'd be here without her. I met her on my first screen test for Lucas – I didn't know what a screen test was. 'Laura was there to read for the older girl, and she talked me through it, 'cause I didn't know what the f*** was going on. 'She befriended me. I was literally 12 and – nobody knows this – she took me under her wing into my twenties. That relationship got me through.' She is now passing on her own wisdom to the younger cast members on the series Stranger Things. Ryder said: 'I've been trying to sort of change this narrative with the kids, because they have it drilled into them that they're so lucky and, you know, that this show 'made' them. 'I'm like: 'No. Netflix is so lucky. You guys are the special ones. Like, you guys are magic.'' Ryder is also known for starring in films including Heathers, Edward Scissorhands and Little Women. The September issue of ELLE UK is on sale from 31 July.

Laverne Cox Defends Past Relationship With ‘MAGA Republican' Cop After Intense Backlash
Laverne Cox is sharing more details about her former 'MAGA Republican voter' boyfriend just days after news of the relationship drew backlash from fans. The Emmy-winning actor, who is transgender, made the eyebrow-raising comment about her ex while promoting her forthcoming live show, 'Gurrl, How Did I Get Here?' set to take place in New York next week. Though Cox didn't identify the man by name, she described him in a short Instagram video as 'blond-haired, blue-eyed MAGA Republican voter who is a New York City police officer,' later boasting he was 21 years her junior and 'hot.' 'We were madly in love,' she said in the clip, posted Monday. 'I did not develop any of his politics. I still have my own.' Cox appears to have previously alluded to the relationship in interviews where she spoke about a breakup with a former partner who wasn't 'aligned with my values.' Still, it wasn't long before the 'Orange Is the New Black' and 'Inventing Anna' actor's Instagram post was flooded with negative responses from followers who called her out for being hypocritical. 'You are able to look past the fact that someone voted against your community and basically everything you represent…?' one person wrote. 'I don't get the punch line… nor does this entice me to want to go to a show to figure out how you justify this.' Added another, 'Sooooo the morals are dismissed when he's hot. Got it.' Cox attempted to clarify her comments in a followup video posted to Instagram Tuesday, noting she hadn't anticipated the criticism. 'I never adapted any of my ex's politics,' she explained in the roughly 50-minute clip. 'I always challenged him with love and empathy and tried to listen to his perspectives, often corrected him with facts, and I wanted to see if it possible to have a relationship with someone with different political beliefs in theory.' Though she warned against 'dehumanizing' those with different views, she went on to note, 'I think, with this current administration, lines certainly have to be drawn, because we're fighting for our lives in a different way than we were five years ago.' 'Everything Trump is doing, I'm against,' she said. Though Cox publicly backed former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, her latest comments about her ex coincide with a new interview in which she offered a less-than-complimentary take on Harris' campaign. 'The way you win an election is turning out the base,' she told Ts Madison on her 'Outlaws' podcast last week. 'Trump turned out his base. The white supremacists who hadn't voted for years, they got up and they got out and the voted. She needed to turn out the base, but she needed to do it with a message that resonated with people that made them feel like she understood what working people are going through.' Related...
