‘The A-Team' Producer's Former SoCal Estate Lists for $20 Million

Yahoo23-07-2025
Almost 25 years after he died from melanoma at age 69, Stephen J. Cannell is still making headlines. The Laguna Beach estate of the prolific TV writer, director, and producer has popped up for sale, with an asking price of $20 million. Built in 1947 and recently remodeled, the residence sits amid a secluded enclave within the Woods Cove neighborhood, with the listing held by Shauna and Leita Covington of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties.
A Los Angeles native, Cannell worked at his family's interior design business before selling his first script for It Takes a Thief to Universal Studios in the late 1960s. Despite suffering from severe dyslexia, he went on to write for crime shows such as Columbo and Ironside, and served as a story editor for Adam-12. Ultimately, as head of his own studio, he both created and co-created some of the small screen's most beloved shows of all time, including The Greatest American Hero, The A-Team, Wiseguy, 21 Jump Street, Silk Stalkings, The Commish, and The Rockford Files, the latter of which won an Emmy in 1978.

Though he also penned several bestselling mystery novels, he might be best remembered for his iconic insignia after the ending credits of his TV shows: a short sequence of a pipe-smoking Cannell typing feverishly, then ripping a page from his typewriter and tossing it in the air.

Fully walled and gated with a street-side two-car garage, the four-bedroom, five-bath property is perched high atop a nearly quarter-acre bluff overlooking the rugged Orange County coastline, with a landscaped courtyard out front and private steps in the back leading down to a peninsula jutting into the Pacific Ocean. A Dutch door opens into the stucco and brick-accented structure, which features roughly 4,700 square feet of space and numerous French doors that create a seamless indoor-outdoor feel.
Among the highlights is an entry foyer sporting a sky-lit stairwell. From there, a spacious coffer-ceilinged great room holds a living room with a two-way fireplace that connects on the other side to a bookshelf-lined office where Cannell worked on many of his hit shows. There's also a family room, plus a dining room that flows via a butler's pantry to an eat-in kitchen outfitted with custom cabinetry, a quartz-topped island, Thermador appliances, a wine cooler, a Shaws farmhouse sink, and a bay-windowed breakfast nook flanked by a large white brick fireplace.

In addition to the Laguna Beach home, Cannell's three children still maintain his former primary residence in Pasadena. His eighth-grade sweetheart and wife of 46 years, Marcia, passed away last year.Best of Robb Report

Universal Studios Hollywood Locks in Halloween Horror Nights 2025 Lineup With Poltergeist, Blumhouse and The Purge — GeekTyrant

Universal Studios Hollywood has officially unleashed the final wave of its 2025 Halloween Horror Nights lineup, and horror fans are in for a wild, scream-filled ride. The latest announcement brings Poltergeist , The Purge , and a massive Blumhouse takeover into the mix, rounding out an already stacked slate of haunted attractions. The Poltergeist -themed haunted house will plunge guests straight into the iconic nightmare. Organizers promise it will 'transport guests into nightmarish scenes with terrifying characters from the movie,' complete with the eerie suburban home from the original film — built atop a cemetery, haunted by a paranormal TV, and hiding a portal to another dimension. Over on the historic backlot, Terror Tram: Enter the Blumhouse will twist the Studio Tour into a full-on horror gauntlet. Halfway through the ride, guests will hop off the tram to come face-to-face with Blumhouse's most terrifying villains, including The Grabber from The Black Phone , the possessed from The Exorcist: Believer , the masked killers from The Purge franchise, and yes — M3GAN will be there too. Fans can also grab a themed photo op before moving on. Those splurging on the R.I.P. Tour will score an exclusive meet-and-greet with select Terror Tram characters. The Purge: Dangerous Waters stunt show will also return, this time promising to take guests 'on a fiery, rocket-fueled adventure while they fight to survive the night' inside the WaterWorld arena. Adding to the chaos, four scare zones will be scattered across the park: the Chainsaw Clownz crew, a bloody Carnival of Carnage, a sinister street leading to the Noche de Brujas zone, and the returning Murder of Crowz. These new horrors join an already announced lineup that includes haunted houses inspired by Prime Video's Fallout , Blumhouse's Five Nights at Freddy's , the Terrifier films, WWE Presents: The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks, Jason Universe , Scarecrow: Music by Slash , and Monstruos 3: The Ghosts of Latin America . Some of the park's biggest rides will also be open during the event, including Super Nintendo World , Jurassic World — The Ride , The Wizarding World of Harry Potter , Transformers: The Ride-3D , Revenge of the Mummy — The Ride , and The Simpsons Ride . Halloween Horror Nights 2025 kicks off Thursday, September 4, and runs select nights through Sunday, November 2. Prepare to scream.

ITV presenter says ‘I don't know what I did wrong' after game show cancellation

Former Emmerdale star Adam Thomas has been left confused by the cancellation of his ITV game show. The channel has axed its series 99 to Beat, which premiered earlier this year, with Thomas stating: 'I don't know what I did wrong.' Thomas, 36, who played Adam Barton in Emmerdale until 2018, presented the series alongside his brother, former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas. The format saw 100 players whittled down over numerous games in a bid to win a £25,000 cash prize. News of the show's cancellation was revealed by Adam on his podcast Mancs on the Mic, where he admitted he was blindsided by ITV's decision. 'When I am positive about something, it gets cancelled,' he said. 'Like I did one series of [I'm a Celebrity spin-off] Extra Camp – got cancelled. The next presenting job I did was with Ryan – 99 To Beat – and that's got cancelled.' ITV confirmed the news to The Independent, but has not given a specific reason as to why the show was axed – despite it being 'one of the biggest entertainment launches this year' across all of its channels and streaming platforms. 'It reached 12.5 million viewers and was streamed over four million times on ITVX,' a spokesperson said, adding: 'The Thomas brothers are fantastic presenters, but unfortunately at this stage, we will not be recommissioning.' The 99 to Beat format originated in Belgium and has been adapted in 12 territories. The UK version aired in March 2025. Another show that received the axe this week after just one series is the critically acclaimed BBC drama This Town. Created by Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight, the drama is set in the West Midlands during the 1980s and focuses on a group of young people who immerse themselves in the region's burgeoning music scene amid a backdrop of social unrest. However, despite strong reviews and winning Best Single Drama or Limited Series at the Royal Television Society Programme Awards in March, the show's run has been cut short. In a statement given to The Independent, a BBC spokesperson said: 'We're hugely grateful to Steven Knight and the cast and crew for bringing This Town to life – in no small part due to Steven's passion for the West Midlands.'
