West Indies cricket bodies to review player safety after harassment allegations
March 21 (Reuters) - The West Indies Players' Association and Cricket West Indies said on Friday they would review safety protocols following allegations of sexual harassment during the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in 2020.
"WIPA and CWI will come together to review all aspects of player protection within West Indies cricket. This joint effort reflects our commitment to upholding the highest standards of player welfare and ensuring that all safeguards remain robust and effective," the two bodies said in a joint statement.
The review follows previous measures, including new safety protocols for women's tours introduced in 2021 and the provision of single-room accommodation for the senior women's team on international tours from 2023.
They also highlighted the creation of the CWI Women's Cricket Transformation Committee to further the development of women's cricket.
Both organizations reaffirmed adherence to UNICEF's Child Protection Policy, ensuring that minors are never housed in the same room as adults, and confirmed the continuation of mandatory training for officials to maintain player welfare standards.

Jos Buttler serves up fireworks as England see off West Indies in first T20
The burden has gone for Jos Buttler. Playing his first Twenty20 international since stepping down from the white-ball captaincy, there was liberation as he struck a 59-ball 96 to set up England's 22-run win over West Indies. If there was any glumness for the 34-year-old, it was in missing out on what would have been his first T20I century at home. Nonetheless, Buttler top-scored in a total of 188 before Liam Dawson got to work. The left-arm spinner has been the darling of the county game in recent years but this was his return to the England show after nearly three years away. His story has long been that of the drinks carrier, an unused member of the 2019 World Cup-winning squad, there to use in case of emergency. Here he was part of the main cast and celebrated his best international figures, four wickets for 20 runs, his control crucial. A new life begins for Dawson, too. The London traffic had disrupted West Indies before the third one-day international at the Oval; this time it was British immigration policy. The recent introduction of a visa requirement for visitors from Trinidad and Tobago led to the absence of Akeal Hosein, the left-arm spinner still waiting to complete the process. It meant Clarke had to turn to his bench. And, a few minutes later, Slicker was forced to pick the ball out of his net with one of his first touches, as his dream moment turned into a nightmare. John Souttar levelled for Scotland half way through the first half, converting Johnston's corner with a header. Steve Clarke likes Lennon Miller's stated ambition to become one of Scotland's top players But the Scots conceded again in calamitous fashion just before the break. An Iceland corner was not properly dealt with by the defence. The ball cannoned off Souttar inside the six-yard box and then Ferguson, with Slicker not covering himself in glory as the ball crept over the line.
