Shashi Tharoor to lead high-profile US delegation to brief on Operation Sindoor; Milind Deora, Sudip Bandyopadhyay included
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor will lead a 10-member delegation from across parties to the US to brief on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.
The high-profile delegation includes Shashi Tharoor, Shambhavi Choudhary from the Lok Janshakti Party, Dr Sarfaraz Ahmed from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Sudip Bandyopadhyay of Trinamool Congress, Telugu Desam Party's Ganti Harish Madhur Balayogi, BJP's Shri Shashank Mani Tripathi and Bhubaneswar Kalita, Shiv Sena's Milind Deora and two non-politicians, including Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Former Ambassador of India to the USA and Dr Varun Jeph, Director (IOR) - Liaison Officer for the delegation
The Indian government had earlier announced seven all-party groups of MPs, each having at least five parliamentarians from across parties and a senior diplomat, to address in various countries about the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The delegations will depart on May 21-22 to countries like the US, UK, EU, Russia, Japan, South Africa and West Asia among others. The senior diplomats will assist MPs during their presentations. The list includes former foreign secretary HV Shringla, former Indian envoys to France, Jawed Ashraff and Mohan Kumar, and former envoy to Japan, Sujan Chinoy.
Former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid will lead a delegation to south and southeast Asia, covering countries such as South Korea, Japan and Singapore. JDU MP Sanjay Jha and Shringla will also be part of the delegation. Supriya Sule (NCPSP) and Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena) are leading a delegation each. Sule's delegation includes Rajiv Pratap Rudy (BJP), Anurag Thakur (BJP), Manish Tewari (Congress), Brij Lal (BJP) and Tejaswi Surya (BJP).Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM) will also be part of a delegation. DMK leader Kanimozhi is leading the delegation to Russia. RJD MP Prem Chand Gupta is in her team.Former J&K CM Ghulam Nabi Azad is likely to lead the delegation visiting UK, France, Germany and EU headquarters in Brussels. BJP's RS Prasad is likely to lead a delegation to West Asia, including Saudi Arabia. Samajwad MP Rajeev Kumar Rai is also part of a delegation.
Trinamool MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay has also been invited, but he has informed that he is not fit to travel such a long distance.

On Rahul's "surrender" jibe at PM, Chirag said the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha was indulging in petty politics. "He knows they are going to lose the Bihar assembly elections as well... BJP, ECI hit back at Rahul Gandhi's ‘match-fixing' allegations in Maharashtra polls
The Election Commission rejected the charges, calling them absurd and an attempt to malign the institution. EC sources told the media that no Congress candidates or their authorised agents had raised any credible complaints about irregular voting during scrutiny before returning officers and election observers. They said that the voter lists in Maharashtra, like elsewhere in India, are prepared according to the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. The BJP also hit back strongly, accusing Gandhi of undermining democratic institutions and eroding public trust in elections. Party president JP Nadda dismissed Gandhi's article as a 'blueprint for manufacturing a fake narrative.' He accused Gandhi of spreading conspiracy theories and defaming institutions out of 'frustration and desperation' over repeated electoral losses. 'Congress gets defeated election after election due to his antics,' Nadda said. 'Instead of introspecting, he cooks up bizarre conspiracies, cries foul, and defames institutions without any proof.' Responding to the EC's source-based statements, Gandhi posted on X, 'Releasing unsigned, evasive notes to intermediaries is not the way to respond to serious questions. You are a Constitutional body. Gandhi also highlighted that new voters were added in only 12,000 booths across 85 constituencies—seats the BJP went on to win. In response, EC sources said over 6.4 crore voters cast their votes in Maharashtra between 7 am and 6 pm. They noted that about 58 lakh votes were cast each hour on average, which means roughly 1.16 crore voters could have voted in the last two hours. "Therefore, the casting of 65 lakh votes by electors in two hours is much below the average hourly voting trend," an EC official said.
