
Over 5 lakh take part in Yogandhra-2025 campaign in Chittoor
The month-long Yogandhra-2025 celebrations concluded on Saturday at Mesanical Grounds of the District Sports Authority here with District Collector Sumit Kumar urging people to incorporate yoga into their daily lives for better health.
Addressing a massive gathering of yoga participants, the Collector said that over 5 lakh people participated in yoga sessions conducted in coordination with the AP Tourism and Revenue departments. More than 5,000 trainers were deployed to ensure wide public engagement across the district.
'We conducted major sessions at seven venues, including tourist spots like Puligundu, Boyakonda, Kanipakam, Naniyala Elephant Camp, and Kangundi Fort. These sessions drew thousands of participants,' he said.
The Collector highlighted that yoga must not be limited to a one-month campaign but practiced as a lifelong companion to enhance physical and mental well-being.
Referring to the participation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the International Yoga Day event in Visakhapatnam, Mr. Kumar said that it would serve as a valid endorsement of the benefits of yoga for society.
SP Manikanta Chandolu urged the people to practice yoga daily for complete wellness. The Collector and SP presented certificates and mementos to outstanding trainers and yoga instructors.
Joint Collector G. Vidyadhari, Chittoor Urban Development Authority Chairperson Katari Hemalatha, and Chittoor Mayor C. Amuda were among those who participated in the yoga session.

Yoga is the biggest gift India has given to the world, along with Ayurveda, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said here on Saturday. After a 40-minute session at the Raj Bhavan marking the International Yoga Day celebrations, Mr. Arlekar advised the participants to dedicate at least one to 1.5 hours daily to the practice of yoga. He emphasised yoga's transformative potential, saying that it unites the mind and body and helps to control one's mind and habits. Institutions and organisations organised yoga sessions on Saturday to mark this year's celebrations which carried the theme 'Yoga for one earth, one health.' The University of Kerala celebrated Yoga Day jointly with the Yoga Association of Kerala with a yoga session and 'yoga dance' at the Jimmy George Stadium. Five-hundred people participated in the event, the university said. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies G.R. Anil inaugurated the event. G. Muraleedharan, convener (finance committee) of the university's syndicate, presided. Yoga Association president B. Balachandran delivered the Yoga Day message. The Sainik School, Kazhakuttam, organised a Mass Yoga Session on Saturday. Col. Dhirendra Kumar, Principal, Sainik School, inaugurated the event. He emphasised the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life for holistic development. The school had organised yoga-themed activities from June 6 to 21 to mark this year's Yoga Day celebrations. They included poster-making, essay writing, quizzes, lectures and live screenings of yoga sessions.

Odisha govt planning to include yoga in school curriculum, public health programmes: CM
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday said the state government is taking initiatives to include yoga in the school curriculum and public health programme as this helps create a healthy, self-reliant and efficient India. Addressing a state-level programme on the occasion of International Yoga Day at Kalinga Stadium here, he said yoga is not just a physical exercise but something that keeps the body, mind and soul active. The programme, organised by Odisha's Sports and Youth Affairs Department, was attended by over 10,000 people, including ministers, lawmakers, bureaucrats, students, women and others. "In Odisha, we are making yoga available to everyone. We organise awareness campaigns on yoga in schools, colleges, hostels and sporting centres. We can also include yoga in school curriculum and public health programmes," the chief minister said. Majhi said that the awareness programmes on yoga teach people to maintain a healthy life. Though yoga has been practised in India for many years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensured its international recognition after assuming charge as the PM in 2014, he said. Due to the PM's efforts, the United Nations declared June 21 as the International Yoga Day, he said. The chief minister said that yoga is "not just a physical exercise, but something that keeps body, mind and soul active". "Yoga is a medium to attain physical, intellectual, mental and spiritual fulfilment. It is beneficial for human bodies," he said. The theme of this year's International Yoga Day is 'Yoga for One Earth , One Health', which highlights the deep connection between personal well-being and the health of the planet. "It shows how the ancient yoga practice nourishes not only the body and mind but also nature and promotes a harmonious lifestyle that respects all living beings," he said. On this occasion, the traditional Gotipu dance was performed by the culture department. Internationally acclaimed sand artist Padma Shri Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a sand sculpture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi performing Ustrasana (Camel Pose) on the Puri sea beach.
