OPEN// President Sisi: Egypt always has positive role in defusing conflicts

Middle East08-03-2025
CAIRO, March 7 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said Egypt always has a positive role in defusing conflicts and acting as a peacemaker.
Egypt's primary goal remains achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid, and securing the release of hostages; an unwavering stance that has not changed, President Sisi said during his inspection visit to the Egyptian Military Academy.
President Sisi reiterated Egypt's warning of the dangers of prolonged conflicts, noting that military confrontations can easily spiral out of control due to miscalculations, resulting in unwise decisions.
He stressed peace is a preferred choice for Egypt, noting that the large financial resources spent on conflicts could instead be directed toward development, reconstruction, and economic growth.
He further explained that whoever wins a war, he often suffers significant economic losses due to the high costs associated with military engagement.
President Sisi further underlined that Egypt is the first country to sign a peace agreement in 1979.
He praised late president Mohamed Anwar el Sadat for initiating peace talks at a time when such dialogues were unprecedented.
Shifting to the current situation in Gaza, President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's genuine efforts in maintaining a ceasefire, facilitating humanitarian aid access, and releasing hostages.
As for the severe destruction in the war-torn Gaza, Sisi said Egypt has proposed a plan for Gaza reconstruction.
Egypt has coordinated with Arab partners to devise a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza, Sisi added.
All state institutions, including Egypt's higher education and housing ministries, and the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, worked together to come up with a comprehensive document on rebuilding Gaza, the President added.
During the extraordinary Arab Summit, hosted by Egypt on Tuesday, March 4, the reconstruction plan was discussed and approved by the participants, President Sisi said, deeming it as a collective Arab initiative for Gaza reconstruction.
President Sisi also expressed his keenness on visiting the Egyptian Military Academy to greet the cadets on the holy month of Ramadan, and reassure them of the situation in the country and the whole region.
Sisi said that he regularly receives updates from the academy's leadership on educational and training processes in the academy.
Sisi stressed the importance of continuous development, saying progress is essential to achieving the best possible outcomes. (MORE)

President El-Sisi directs comprehensive roadmap for modernizing Egyptian media - Society

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi directed on Sunday the formulation of a comprehensive roadmap for developing Egyptian media, drawing on all available specialized expertise and competencies, according to a presidential statement. The president's remarks came during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation Khaled Abdelaziz, Chairman of the National Press Authority Abdel-Sadek El-Shorbagy, and Chairman of the National Media Authority Ahmed El-Meslemany. "This aims to ensure national media keeps pace with rapid global changes and fulfils its mission in line with the orientations of the modern Egyptian state and the New Republic," President El-Sisi said, affirming the state's commitment to upholding freedom of expression. According to the presidential spokesman, President El-Sisi opened the meeting by extending his greetings and appreciation to all workers in the media sector. He praised the Egyptian media's vital role in building national character, shaping public awareness, informing citizens of developments at home and abroad, highlighting achievements, elevating public taste, and reinforcing societal values and constants. He also highlighted the importance of embracing all patriotic viewpoints within the Egyptian media system to strengthen pluralism and intellectual openness. Moreover, the president approved the government's proposed cash allowance for journalists and directed that the issue of end-of-service gratuities for the Egyptian Radio and Television Union's (Maspero) employees be resolved. President El-Sisi further stressed the importance of making data and information available to the media, especially in times of crises that command public attention, so that issues are addressed adequately and objectively. He also urged relying on qualified young cadres for media work and organizing educational and training programmes for sector employees. Furthermore, he encouraged media officials to focus on national security concepts and openness to diverse opinions, thereby entrenching the principle of 'opinion and counter-opinion' within Egypt's media ecosystem. The president was also briefed during the meeting on efforts to develop the Maspero system, including its affiliated channels and plans to modernize the national press institutions, the spokesman added. Azhar harshly condemns Israel's decision to seize Gaza lands

Egypt's Al-Azhar al-Sharif harshly condemned Israel's brutal decision to occupy the Gaza Strip and completely seize its lands. In a statement issued Saturday evening, it affirmed that this unjust decision serves as conclusive evidence that Israel seeks to erase Palestine from existence and swallow up what remains of its land by force of arms and terrorism. Azhar stressed that this is an indelible stain on the brow of international institutions unable to confront Israel's criminal actions. It called for an end Israel's occupation policies, which are based on arrogance, contempt and violence, flouts all UN charters, laws, and resolutions, and insists on committing further massacres and violations against the Palestinian people, the owners of their land. Azhar called for the need to combine all Arab, Islamic, and international efforts, and to intensify all forms of political, diplomatic, and legal pressure to halt this 'major historical tragedy and absurdity', unprecedented in human history, and to stand firmly against the occupier's attempts to drag the entire region into a chaotic collapse.

Sisi affirms continued Egyptian efforts to achieve ceasefire in Gaza Strip, deliver humanitarian aid

CAIRO, Aug 8 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed Egypt's firm and unwavering support for brotherly Palestinian people, reaffirming Egypt's continued intensive efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, deliver humanitarian aid to the population, work toward release of hostages and detainees as well as firmly rejecting displacement of Palestinians from their land. During a phone call President al-Sisi received Friday from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president voiced sincere gratitude and appreciation for Egypt's steadfast stance in support of the Palestinian cause and for the continued humanitarian assistance provided by Egypt to the Palestinian people, especially in light of the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, according to Presidential Spokesman Mohamed al-Shenawy. The spokesman added that the Palestinian president praised Egypt's strong stand against the displacement of the Palestinian people, affirming that the State of Palestine stands alongside Egypt – its leadership, army, government and people – in confronting any attempts to undermine its security and stability. Abbas also warned of the dangers of the decision taken Thursday by the Israeli government to reoccupy the Gaza Strip and displace its population to the south, describing it as a new crime that adds to the series of Israeli violations in the West Bank, including Al Quds (East Jerusalem), the spokesman said. The Palestinian president stressed his determination to continue political action at all levels, including the UN Security Council, the Arab League (AL) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to mobilize regional and international support against these plans, he added. The spokesman noted that Abbas, during the call, emphasized the need for the State of Palestine to assume full responsibility in the Gaza Strip, underscoring the importance of an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages and detainees, the delivery of humanitarian aid, Palestinian assumption of security responsibilities with Arab and international support, along with the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Strip – ensuring unity of governance, law, and legitimate arms under the umbrella of the Palestinian State.
