His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, president of the Qatar Olympic Committee and chairman of the Doha 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games Bid, visited the Visit Qatar activation at the Qatar Goodwood Festival presented by Visit Qatar. He was accompanied by Saad bin Ali AlKharji, chairman of Qatar Tourism and chair of the Board of Directors of Visit Qatar, and Eng. Abdulaziz Ali Al Mawlawi, CEO of Visit Qatar.
The activation offered an elevated platform that showcased Qatar's rich heritage alongside its passion for equestrian excellence.
The activation featured thoughtfully curated elements, including live illustrated portraits celebrating race day elegance, a bespoke leather stamping station for personalised keepsakes, and a heritage corner where visitors drew traditional Arabic proverbs from a pearl-diving basket, offering an authentic connection to Qatari storytelling.
The Qatar Goodwood Festival presented by Visit Qatar with the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes (Group 1) marks the first of several Visit Qatar-sponsored races during the event.
A world-class field of 8 elite runners from leading international stables took part in the two-mile race, delivering an exhilarating showdown on the Goodwood Racecourse. Scandinavia claimed victory in a hard-fought finish. The trophy was presented by Saad Bin Ali Al Kharji, chairman of Qatar Tourism and chair of the Board of Directors of Visit Qatar.
Beyond the track, Visit Qatar is bringing the spirit of Qatar to West Sussex through an interactive experience designed to showcase Qatar's hospitality, unique culture, and tourism offerings to international festival goers.
Guests visiting the Visit Qatar activation are welcomed with traditional refreshments including Arabic coffee and dates. Immersive visual elements throughout the space highlight Qatar's diverse tourism offerings, using striking imagery and compelling storytelling to inspire travel and bring the destination to life.
The Qatar Goodwood Festival presented by Visit Qatar continues throughout the week with more headline races, including the Qatar International Stakes, the highly anticipated Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes, the Qatar Nassau Stakes, and the King George Qatar Stakes, and the Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes on the final day.

Qatar national basketball team roster for FIBA Asia Cup 2025 announced
Tribune News Network Doha The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) has unveiled the official roster for the Qatar National Basketball Team, set to compete in the 31st edition of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17, 2025. The tournament will feature 16 top Asian national teams. Other groups in the tournament are as follows: Group B includes Japan, Iran, Syria, and Guam; Group C comprises China, Jordan, India, and Saudi Arabia; and Group D features the Philippines, New Zealand, Iraq, and Chinese Taipei. The tournament follows a group-stage format, with the top team from each group advancing directly to the quarterfinals. Teams finishing second and third in their groups will compete in crossover knockout matches to determine the remaining quarter-finalists.

In a post on its official X account, the Ministry stated: 'We take pride in the achievement of Sheikha Asma Al Thani and her raising of the nation's flag on the summit of Gasherbrum I. What she has accomplished embodies the spirit of determination and perseverance, serving as an inspiration for Qatari youth to strive toward achieving their goals and overcoming challenges.' Sheikha Asma announced her successful ascent on Instagram last Monday, marking another milestone in her mountaineering journey. 'Gasherbrum I, my 10th 8000er. Another summit, another moment I'll never forget,' she wrote. She continued in the post: 'Standing here with the Qatar flag in my hand, I'm reminded why I started this journey. To test my limits. To represent something bigger than myself. And to show that dreams can take us far, if we're willing to go beyond boundaries.' Gasherbrum I, standing at 8,080 metres (26,510 feet) above sea level, is located in the Karakoram range of the Himalayas, straddling the border between Pakistan's Gilgit–Baltistan region and China's Xinjiang province. The mountain is part of the Gasherbrum Massif, a notoriously challenging area for climbers due to its extreme altitude and rugged conditions.

Sports for All Summer Under-18 Chess sees wide participation
Tribune News Network Doha The Sports for All Summer Under-18 Chess Championship, organized by the Qatar Sports for All Federation in cooperation with Qatar Chess Association, concluded with the participation of 66 players of various nationalities. The tournament, held at the Qatar Chess Training Center, is part of the Sports for All Summer 2025 program, which continues until August 7. The final results of the tournament saw India's Sajan Abil winning the first place with 8.5 points, followed by his compatriot Josi Yohan in second place with 8 points, and Turkish player Calvillo Kerim in third place with 7 points. Among Qatari players, Khaled Al Jumaat, a player of the Qatari national team, finished ninth with six points, followed by Ibrahim Al Janahi in tenth place with the same score, tied with Hamad Al Kuwari, who finished eleventh. Layan Al Qassabi, also a player from the Qatari national team, finished 14th with six points. Abdullah Al Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, emphasized that the tournament witnessed significant participation from all age groups, especially youth, reflecting the popularity of chess as a mental sport that enhances concentration. For his part, Hamad Al Tamimi, Executive Director of the Qatar Chess Association, said that these tournaments effectively contribute to spreading the game of chess and expanding its practitioner base within Qatari society, especially among youth.
