Roku lands broadcast deal to deliver the Eagles' definitive Super Bowl story

USA Today4 days ago
Roku secures a deal with NFL Films and Dan Silver's BD4 to release the Eagles' definitive Super Bowl documentary.
If you're like most, you have probably already spent more money than you planned to on Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl memorabilia. Oh well... You only live once. We waited a long time for that first Lombardi Trophy in 2018, and now we have seen the Birds win two. Why not live a little? Why not party like rock stars?
Philly has turned the page and is now looking ahead to another season. It took a while, but they finally received their Super Bowl rings. Wouldn't you know it? Jalen Hurts has no plans of wearing his. Oh well... Maybe, once his playing days are over, he can enjoy another cigar, kick his feet up, and enjoy some of his accomplishments.
That doesn't mean the rest of us can't enjoy that celebration a bit longer, though. Fans and the media can look as far ahead or as far back as they want. They won't be suiting up for any games this year.
NFL Films will partner with Roku to release the Eagles' Super Bowl documentary
Here's something of note. The Hollywood Reporter shared an exclusive on the first day of Eagles training camp. Roku, NFL Films, and Dan Silver's BD4 are partnering to release Super Bowl Champions: The 2024 Philadelphia Eagles. This is a documentary described as the "definitive" documentary about the 2024-25 championship-winning season.
'We are excited to produce the definitive story of the Philadelphia Eagles' incredible 2024 season, which culminated with a victory in Super Bowl LIX. We thank Dan Silver and BD4 for bringing this film to a tremendous partner in the Roku Channel, and we look forward to sharing the Eagles' championship run with their audience.'
Those were the words of Jessica Boddy, NFL Films vice president of commercial operations and business affairs. Roku's head of sports, Joe Franzetta, states the following.
"We're thrilled to be the home for 'Super Bowl Champions The 2024 Philadelphia Eagles' and can't wait to give our users an exclusive look into the Philadelphia Eagles' unforgettable season. Roku Sports aims to create personalized viewing experiences for fans with their favorite teams and leagues, so we're excited to use the power of our platform to connect audiences with this tremendous NFL Films and BD4 documentary."
The documentary debuts on Friday, July 25. No die-hard football fan needs a lecture on the fantastic job NFL Films does. The release, at the time of this story's release, is still a ways away, and it feels like this one will be worthy of Oscar consideration. Buckle up. Mark those calendars. This one should be a fun watch.

Tracee Ellis Ross Rejected Oprah Winfrey Calling Her The "Poster Child For Singledom": "I Don't Want To Be That"

Tracee Ellis Ross is reflecting on Oprah's comments about her ongoing single status. The moment came in an episode of Tracee's new series, Solo Traveling With Tracee Ellis Ross, which finds the Emmy-winning actor exploring the joys of the world as a single and childless woman. Reflecting on the freedom of solo travel, Tracee said, "So much of what traveling is about, is for me, not waiting for something in order to walk towards my life, in order to be in my life, in order to experience my life. I think that was why I took my first trip solo. And I know that in some ways — I mean, Oprah said it. She said that I'm the poster child for singledom. I don't want to be that." Instead, Tracee prefers to reframe the conversation as someone living on their own terms and not waiting for traditional things to add value and meaning to their life. "I want to be the poster child for being an inhabitant in your own skin," Tracee said. "For living in your own skin." Although some might see being single and childless at an older age as a negative, Tracee, 52, says it has afforded her a freedom and an experience that she might not have otherwise had. "Yes, I am a single Black woman who does not have children, but not having a relationship — long, long relationships — not having children has allowed me to explore things of my own humanity," she reflected. "It has deposited me here at 52 in an extraordinary experience that is filled with joy, loneliness, grief, exuberance, delight, like, literally all of it. And I feel available to it." While Tracee didn't specify when Oprah's comments occurred, they appear to be from a 2020 interview on her Your Live in Focus series, where Oprah told Tracee how many single women view her as "an example of what being an unmarried woman could and should look like." When asked if she ever imagined playing that role, Tracee laughed, "No. I, like many of us, was taught to grow up dreaming of my wedding, not of my life." She added, "I spent many years dreaming of my wedding, and also, waiting to be chosen. Well, here's the thing. I'm the chooser. And I can choose to get married if I want to, but in the meantime, I am choicefully single, happily, gloriously single." She repeated that message in a 2021 interview with Harper's Bazaar: "People are like, 'You're the poster child for being single.' And I was like, 'Great.' But what I would prefer is that I'm the poster child for living my life on my terms. And that there's a version of that for everyone. I don't live my life for other people. I just totally live it for me." You can (and should!) watch Solo Traveling With Tracee Ellis Ross now on Roku. Trust me when I say — it's great. Let me know what you think of her reflections in the comments below, too.

Jeremiah Trotter Jr views pressure as a route to new opportunities with the Eagles

New responsibilities and Eagles injuries could crack the door for Jeremiah Trotter. We're entering year two of our discussions about nepotism and the Philadelphia Eagles' roster. Earlier this offseason, it was reported that there might be team interest in Asante Samuel Jr., but so far, the rumors have not led to any real action. That said, it seems more constructive to discuss a franchise legend's son who is already on the roster. It feels damn good to see the number 54 jersey on defense and know it belongs to Jeremiah Trotter Jr. This is Junior Axe Man. To most, he needs no introduction. His father was a big deal in midnight green. How fitting is it that his young lad was a proud member of Philadelphia's 2024 NFL Draft class? Some of us met him when we saw Dad holding him in his arms. The rest of the contingent may have met him during a successful run with the Clemson Tigers. Trotter Jr. enters his second Eagles training camp. Things seem to be going well. He appears to be making progress and has taken on a new responsibility that should provide him with more experience. That should benefit him as he walks into another regular season. There is also the injury to Nakobe Dean. He opens camp on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list. After spending most of his rookie season contributing primarily on special teams, Trotter could see more meaningful snaps during games that count, but no one knows what that may look like at this point. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. adds to his palette at Eagles practice Jeremiah Trotter Sr. never won a Super Bowl with the Birds, though he did secure preferred seating at both victory parades. The younger Jeremiah Trotter won football's biggest game during his inaugural NFL season. He played primarily on special teams. One of the questions now is whether he will do so again this season. Most expected that, when he was drafted, 'Junior' would back up Nakobe Dean. No one expected, at that time, that Zack Baun would morph into a First-Team All-Pro. Thank Heaven that he did. It's always great to have as many great players on the roster as possible, but that shoved Trot Jr. further down the depth chart. Then came the selection of Jihaad Campbell during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. That seemingly clouded Trotter's picture even further. It would have seen that he would have tumbled down the depth chart had it not been for injury concerns surrounding Campbell and Dean entering Eagles training camp. Everyone has been in the mix. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has added to the mix of first- and second-year stars. Campbell has gotten snaps with the defense's first team. Trotter has been splitting play-calling duties with Zack Baun during training camp. Both may see significant roles. No one is 100% certain of what those roles are yet, not even Vic Fangio. Thankfully, none of us has to perform the balancing acts.
