Allahabad HC denies bail to man for posts against PM, Armed Forces during Operation Sindoor
A single-judge bench, comprising Justice Arun Kumar Deshwal, observed that the freedom of speech and expression guaranteed under the Constitution of India does not extend to acts that disrespect the high dignitaries of the country and create disharmony among citizens.
Justice Deshwal stated that it had become a trend among certain groups to misuse social media platforms under the guise of freedom of speech by making nasty and unfounded allegations against dignitaries and spreading disharmony and hatred among communities.
The petitioner, Ashraf Khan alias Nisrat, had been booked under Sections 152 and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly posting edited videos on his Facebook account during the recent India-Pakistan face-off following the Phalagam massacre.
According to the prosecution, the petitioner, who had moved the High Court seeking bail, allegedly posted a video showing the Prime Minister walking next to a donkey pulling a cart carrying an aircraft, later showing him apologising to Pakistan.

Monsoon Session Ends Amid Disruptions, Just 31% Productivity In Lok Sabha
The Monsoon Session of Parliament, which began on July 21, 2025, concluded on Thursday after 21 sittings over 32 days, with both Houses registering low productivity because of repeated disruptions. The Lok Sabha functioned for only 37 hours out of the scheduled 120 hours, while the Rajya Sabha managed 41 hours and 15 minutes, reflecting a productivity of just 31% and 38.8%, respectively. Here are some key highlights from the session: Bills: 14 bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha and 12 were passed. The Rajya Sabha cleared 15 bills. Special Debates: A two-day discussion on Operation Sindoor, India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, engaged over 130 MPs across both Houses. A debate on Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian to visit the International Space Station (ISS), and the future of the space programme for Viksit Bharat 2047 was initiated but cut short due to protests. Disruptions Dominate Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh repeatedly expressed concern over "planned disruptions" that wasted precious time. In the Lok Sabha, only 55 starred questions were answered out of the 419 listed. In the Rajya Sabha, just 14 questions and seven Zero Hour submissions could be taken up. "The people expect serious debate, not placards and slogans. Continuous disruptions insult the dignity of Parliament," Mr Birla said. Farewells Rajya Sabha also bade farewell to six retiring members from Tamil Nadu. The House heard a suo motu statement on India-US trade ties from the Commerce Minister, while being informed of the vacancy in the office of the Vice President. Road Ahead While the government highlighted the passage of reform-oriented bills on sports, gaming, shipping, and taxation, the Opposition blamed the ruling party for stifling debate. With both Houses functioning at less than 40% efficiency, leaders on both sides now face pressure to ensure smoother functioning in the upcoming Winter Session.

"No Bilaterals vs Pakistan Even On Neutral Venue": Sports Ministry To NDTV
The Indian government has taken a hard stance regarding its policy of competing with Pakistan in sporting events. 'We will have no bilaterals vs Pakistan even on neutral venue. This policy makes India more aggressive. We have to beat Pakistan in the border and in sports," a sports ministry source told NDTV. Yhe Indian athletes and teams will be allowed to participate in "international events that also have teams or players from Pakistan. However, India will continue to refrain from participating in competitions in Pakistan and will not participate in any bilateral competition. Along with this, it is also declared that the visa policy will be "simplified" for sportspersons, team officials, technical personnel, and office-bearers of International Sports Governing Bodies for a "maximum" period of five years, confirmed a source in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) on Thursday. This development comes amid the ongoing outrage over the Indian cricket team facing Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup, which will take place on September 14 in Dubai. The outrage over India facing their arch-rival in the tournament stems from the anger against the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, in which 26 tourists were killed on April 22 by terrorists. India responded with Operation Sindoor on May 7 to avenge the attack and dismantle the terror infrastructure across the Line of Control and deeper inside Pakistan. In the aftermath of India's response, the strained relationship between the two neighbouring nations further slumped. The MYAS cleared that India won't play Pakistan in bilateral events and said, "India's approach to sports events involving Pakistan reflects its overall policy in dealing with that country. In so far as bilateral sports events in each other's countries are concerned, Indian teams will not be participating in competitions in Pakistan. Nor will we permit Pakistani teams to play in India. With regard to international and multilateral events, in India or abroad, we are guided by the practices of international sports bodies and the interest of our own sportspersons." While taking into account India's rise as a credible venue to host top-tier international events, individual athletes and teams of the nations will be able to compete against Pakistan in multinational tournaments hosted by India. "It is also relevant to take into account India's emergence as a credible venue to host international sports events. Accordingly, Indian teams and individual players will take part in international events that also have teams or players from Pakistan. Similarly, Pakistani players and teams will be able to participate in such multilateral events hosted by India," MYAS said. "To position India as a preferred destination for hosting international sporting events, the visa process for sportspersons, team officials, technical personnel, and office-bearers of International Sports Governing Bodies shall be simplified," MYAS added.

Court grants anticipatory bail to YouTuber in Dharmasthala case
Last Updated: Mangaluru (Karnataka), Aug 21 (PTI) A Mangaluru court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to YouTuber Sameer MD, who is facing criminal charges over content related to the Dharmasthala case. A case was registered against him at the Dharmasthala police station under Sections 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 240 (giving false information) and 353(1)(b) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said the charges were linked to a video uploaded by Sameer, in which he made allegations connected to the controversial case. This is not the first time the YouTuber has faced legal action. In April, a Bengaluru court issued notice to him in connection with a Rs 10-crore defamation suit filed by Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala representatives D Harshendra Kumar and Nischal D. The suit alleged that Sameer had deliberately targeted the religious institution by posting defamatory content about the unsolved 2008 murder of a college student. Sameer, who commands a sizeable online following, has often claimed that his work highlights issues ignored by mainstream media. Authorities, however, maintain that his recent content amounted to provocation and dissemination of misinformation, with the potential to disturb public order. Police sources said monitoring of digital content linked to sensitive cases would continue to prevent the spread of misinformation and unrest. The Special Investigation Team, formed by the state government, is probing allegations of multiple murders, rapes, and burials across different places in Dharmasthala over the past two decades. The investigation first began based on the complaint lodged by a former sanitation worker, whose identity has not been revealed.
