GenKRU earns Malaysia Book of Records fame
The four-night concert held at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil was recognised in two categories: Most Shows in a Single Concert Series and Most Concert Tickets Sold Out in an Hour.
The recognition was awarded to KRU for their performances on May 3, 4, 10 and 11, which drew more than 30,000 spectators, while Icon Entertainment was acknowledged for successfully selling 8,000 tickets within one hour.
Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general (strategic communications and creative industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin and Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia chief executive officer Iliyas Jamil witnessed the certificate presentations, handed over by MBOR representative Christopher Wong to KRU and Icon Entertainment.
The band's leader Datuk Norman Abdul Halim said the achievement was a form of appreciation not only to KRU personally, but to fans who turned what was initially planned as a one-night concert into a four-night event.
"KRU must extend their gratitude for the unwavering support over more than three decades, which enabled the concert to be held across four nights and to receive recognition from MBOR," he said after receiving the accolade.
Meanwhile, Icon Entertainment founder Iman Tang described the achievement as proof of the overwhelming support from fans for KRU and the concert.
"Icon Entertainment is pleased to share this recognition with all KRU fans who made the GenKRU Concert so extraordinary, not only because tickets sold out in one hour, but also because the concert was held successfully over four nights," he said.
The GenKRU Concert also featured special guest appearances by artists such as Feminin, Elite, Adam AF, AC Mizal and Abon.
Meanwhile, the Communications Ministry, through a post on Facebook today, congratulated KRU and Icon Entertainment for the recognition.
It said the Madani government, through the Communications Ministry, remains committed to providing continued support for the development of the country's arts, culture and creative entertainment industries.
This is to strengthen a progressive and competitive industrial ecosystem, it said.

#SHOWBIZ: Norman denies reports of GenKRU concert cancellation in Penang
KUALA LUMPUR: KRU member Datuk Norman Abdul Halim has issued a clarification to address media reports about the supposed cancellation of the GenKRU Concert in Penang. In a video statement released yesterday, Norman explained that KRU never officially announced or launched ticket sales for any GenKRU-branded concert in Penang or any other state. "I would like to clarify the media reports quoting what was said about the cancellation of the GenKRU Concert in Penang," he said. "We did have the intention of staging GenKRU concerts in several states. However, after reviewing the technical aspects and feasibility, we decided to drop the idea." He further explained that it wasn't a specific concert that was cancelled, but rather the intention to hold a GenKRU-branded show in Penang. Norman emphasised that the performance at Axiata Arena in May was a unique event that could not simply be replicated. "Let the GenKRU Concert at Axiata Arena be remembered for its unique and special experience for the fans who attended," he added, noting that the concert was recorded and will be aired. Norman also revealed that the trio is currently reviewing the format and content for shows outside Kuala Lumpur. "However, this project will be under a different brand, not GenKRU. We don't want to disappoint fans or invite comparisons to our Axiata Arena concert," he said. He stressed that if another GenKRU-branded concert were to happen, it would have to be bigger than the Axiata Arena show. "We are thinking of what's best for our fans and we don't want to let anyone down. Wait for our official announcements, and don't rely on rumours. What matters is hearing it from an official source," he said.

The real magic of Freakier Friday is picking up where we left off — and seeing how everyone's grown
It feels like 2025 is the year millennials get to relive their youth. From an ever-growing list of comeback concerts by the bands that raised us (hello KRU, Boyz II Men, Sheila On 7) to watching '90s and 2000s fashion trends take over our social media feeds, the entertainment industry is giving millennials many reasons to feel young again. Now with Freakier Friday in cinemas, it's like we're treated to another sweet bowl of nostalgia. From angsty teen to weathering the storms of motherhood, Lohan's Anna is all grown up. Photo: Disney The film sees the return of Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, reprising their iconic roles from the 2003 remake. It's a typical body-swap plot, but the story reflects more than just teenage angst. More so, it mirrors generational healing. For the sequel, the chaos doubles when another body swap sends not just mum and daughter, but three generations into a whirlwind of mistaken identities. Tess Coleman (Curtis), now a chill grandma, and her grown-up daughter Anna (Lohan) are back at it, but this time, Anna's teen daughter Harper (played by rising star Julia Butters) and Lily Reyes (Sophia Hammons) also get pulled into the magical mess. Anna's teen daughter Harper (played by rising star Julia Butters) and Lily Reyes (Sophia Hammons) also get pulled into the magical mess. Photo: Disney Disclaimer: there are some spoilers here, but I can't write this review without acknowledging the easter eggs. If you're planning to catch it fresh, consider this your cue to keep those eyes peeled. What I can say is that the film knows exactly who it's speaking to and it rewards those of us who still remember Lohan's entire monologue from Mean Girls or when Hallie met Annie for the first time in The Parent Trap. In this film, Lohan's character is set to marry her love interest, Eric Davies, played by Manny Jacinto. Their wedding date? Oct 3rd. In film, Anna (Lohan) is set to marry Eric Davies (Manny Jacinto). Photo: Disney If you watched Mean Girls - you would know what this date means. It's the date that lives rent-free in our brains thanks to Aaron Samuels asking Cady what day it was in Mean Girls. Remember Meredith Blake from The Parent Trap? She makes a cameo here too, but this time Elaine Hendrix isn't sparring with 11-year-old Lohan on screen. Also, Anna's teenage band from the original Freaky Friday, Pink Slip, makes a return! Elaine Hendrix reunites on screen with Lindsay Lohan for Freakier Friday. Photo: Disney Characters we grew up with Let's talk about Lohan. There's something about seeing her back in this role. She's an actress who was once the very embodiment of early 2000s teen stardom, and is now playing a mother balancing work, teenage angst and her own identity crisis. Something us millennials can relate to. It's not an Oscar-bait performance, but it doesn't need to be. Lohan brings quiet depth to Anna, especially in the quieter scenes. Lohan was the it girl of our adolescence. But then came the tabloid years, the burnout, the cruel punchlines. Now, in her late 30s, she's back and in this movie, she doesn't try to pretend she never fell. She sincerely plays Anna as a mother who is fiercely loving yet slightly overwhelmed. From angsty teen to weathering the storms of motherhood, Lohan's Anna is all grown up. Photo: Disney The new generation While Freakier Friday gives us everything we want from Lohan and Curtis, it also smartly passes the baton or at least shares the screen with a promising new generation. Harper is the emotional anchor of the film's next-gen storyline. She's not a bratty teen; she's a smart, observant, slightly guarded girl who can smell parental insecurity far ahead. In some moments, she channels peak 2004 Lohan energy, equal parts uncanny and full of promise. Chad Michael Murray also reprises his role as Jake, though his screen time is lighter this time around. Photo: Disney So what's the verdict? Freakier Friday lets millennials see reflections of our chaotic, coming-of-age past while letting Gen Z stake their claim to their own awkward glory. The plot is predictable, but that's beside the point. It's really about picking up where we left off with these characters. Curtis is as iconic as ever, Lohan proves she still has that magic, and the younger cast holds their own with charm and comedic timing.

Malaysia's heavy metal boys are back - legendary group XPDC aims to rock it up in the 'MetalKestra' concert on Nov 8
XPDC, Malaysia's first and foremost heavy metal band, are back again, and this time they aim to rock the fans and the arena in their large-scale concert at Zepp Kuala Lumpur on Nov 8. With over four decades of experience in the local music scene, making history after history through their work and still being considered the greatest heavy metal rock band ever born in the 80s, XPDC has promised fans an unforgettable night on November 8. Aptly named "XPDC MetalKestra", the concert is backed by Republic Mokhmah Records. Team leader and lead guitarist Izo said their concert this time will also have a backing of a full orchestra set-up. On top of that, the concert producers are also offering three personalised electric guitars for the fans at the super concert. One will be represented via a lucky draw, and the other two guitars for the best-dressed female and male fans at the show. Photo provided by Najib-KRU ( Back in 1998, the group won many admirers with an amazing show at the XPDC Konsert Raksasa at Stadium Negara and also in Shah Aam, where a total of more than 50,000 watched them perform. This year, they aim to recreate that magic led by lead guitarist Izo, the original member since 1988, together with Eddie (bass), Arif (guitar), Lola (drummer) and Mamu (lead vocals). Izo, whose real name is Mohd Zulkifly Nik Hussin, himself turning 61 this year, is considered among the foremost guitarists in the game in the country over the last four decades. "The team from 1988 and 1998 and now are very much different. I admit that. But our music is always the same to its core. That will never change. We were the first heavy metal guys, and we will always be that. And you will see that in our concert this year. "We will also make sure Ali, another founding member of XPDC, is present at the concert too. We will see if he can even join us on stage. But all that depends on his health, too." Ali of XPDC is also a household name in Malaysian music, said to be among the best rock vocalists in the business. But he has not been well with heart issues in recent times. However, Izo said he will make sure Ali joins them at the concert, but whether he will perform with them or not will be decided much later. Meanwhile, Musa dari Republic Mokhmah Records said his team are very excited and honoured to be part of the show as the concert producers. "First and foremost, I would like to say that I'm a very big fan of these guys. I have been listening to them since I was a kid, and it is an honour to be able to work with these super rockers," said Musa. "And in honour of these guys, we promise the best of set-up and background that will honour the legacy of XPDC. It will be a show that one will not forget, come Nov 8 and also in the future." "XPDC are among the stars who introduced 'Rock Kapak' to Malaysian music fans. And they are still proving this genre is far from over. They just keep rocking, and Malaysians keep enjoying their music." Meanwhile, XPDC described the "MetalKestra" theme, which combines the metal genre with orchestral playing, as the right choice, as they wanted to present something fresh but still within XPDC's strong genre. 'Fans will not only enjoy the heavy metal that is synonymous with XPDC, but the orchestral combination will add to the richness of the songs that will be performed live to the fans. 'XPDC Metalkestra is also our appreciation for the spirit of the fans who have never lost and supported us through many ups and downs over the past four decades. "This concert is also a benchmark that XPDC will not stop here,' said drummer Lola, who is also a veteran of the band and has been with them since 1997. The group members also promised fans that they will be singing songs from the four decades that the band has been famous for. "And you can bet our famous songs like 'Apa Nak Di Kata, Nafisa, Kita Peng Yu, Hidup Bersama, Hijau Bumi Tuhan and CT Cinta Kenangan Silam' will be played for the fans," said Izo and Lola. Tickets for the show are priced at RM198 (Cat 4 - Samurai -- Normal numbered seating) ; RM338 (Cat 3 – Brutal -- VIP numbered seating, tshirt & poster) ; RM138 (Cat 2 – Darjah Satu -- Free standing) ; RM168 (Cat 1 – Kita Peng-yu -- f ront row standing) ; and RM5,008 (Royal box - 10 pax, meet & greet, goodie bag s ) . Ticket sales will begin from Wednesday (July 30) at iLasso Tickets ( ).
