Ederson considering Manchester City future but Guardiola insists he is ‘our player'
If the 31-year-old decides he wishes to play elsewhere, City may move for Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma. The 26-year-old is available after Luis Enrique, the PSG coach, signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille to replace the Italy No 1.
At the Club World Cup in June Ederson described speculation regarding leaving City as '99% fake news' but he is now weighing up a transfer, with Galatasaray a potential suitor. City want him to stay and have not received any approaches or bids. On Friday Guardiola was asked whether Ederson would travel to Wolves for Saturday's late afternoon Premier League opener.
'Apparently, yeah,' the manager said. 'Ederson didn't come to me and said he wanted to leave or he has an offer. All the players here are our players and I want them. What's going to happen in three weeks [before the window closes], nobody knows.'
Last month City signed James Trafford from Burnley in a £27m deal, leaving them with three goalkeepers who would consider themselves capable first choices, Stefan Ortega completing that group.
Ederson's compatriot Savinho is being monitored by Tottenham. He is not in Saturday's squad due to injury but it is not thought this would prevent any potential transfer.
Guardiola said: 'Whether it's Tottenham in that case or any other club, a player should call the club [if they wish to move]. I am only concerned right now that Savinho will be with us for the rest of the season and hopefully many years because, at 21 with the potential he has, he has to improve in final positions but he is an extraordinary player.
'At the end, as always, the desire of the players is above everything but then they have to find an agreement with the club. If they don't reach an agreement, the player will be here because the club spends money on those players.' Guardiola was asked whether he had spoken to Savinho and Ederson regarding their futures. 'No. If they want to leave, they will come to me,' he said. 'If they want to leave, they will knock on my door.'
Rodri had a setback in City's 4-3 Club World Cup defeat by Al-Hilal in his fifth appearance after a anterior cruciate injury but Guardiola said the midfielder would travel to Wolves.
'His knee is perfect but he came back against Juventus [at Club World Cup] and after [against Al-Hilal] had an injury of six weeks with his leg,' he said. 'We have to try to avoid that [again]. He needs minutes in training sessions, a few minutes if possible with the games. We want a comeback, not steps back. Then you have the dynamic where you cannot get rhythm. He made good sessions already and tomorrow he is travelling, and we will decide if he can play some minutes.'

Holders Drogheda United through to FAI Cup quarter-finals after penalty shootout drama in Derry
The hosts missed every penalty, with Luke Dennison saving from Jamie Stott and Danny Mullen, while Conor Keeley, Thomas Ulowa and Owen Lambe scored to send the holders through. Drogheda stunned the Brandywell with a goal less than two minutes in when Joshua Thomas raced past Adam O'Reilly into the penalty area, before pulling the ball back from the byline to Andrew Quinn, who side-footed it from close range. Drogheda almost sealed their passage to the quarter-finals on 69 minutes when Darragh Markey's free-kick picked out Ryan Brennan, whose downward header looked in, but for a brilliant save from Brian Maher, who somehow pushed the ball away for a corner. That was a huge moment in the tie as Derry City equalised just five minutes later. Danny Mullen gathered the ball on the right wing and found Duffy on the edge of the area, and City's talisman shifted the ball onto his left foot before driving it ferociously into the roof of the net from 18 yards. It was his ninth goal of the season, his first in six games, and undoubtedly his most important of them all. Derry City had chances to win it in extra-time, but they finished the game with ten men when Ben Doherty was red-carded in the final action of an absorbing FAI Cup tie. Derry City: Maher, O'Reilly, Bannon (Doherty 58'), Connolly, Stott, Fleming (R Boyce 58'); Diallo (L Boyce 58' (Todd 102'), Winchester; Whyte (Mullen 58'), Duffy; Akinyemi (Frizzell 93'). Drogheda United: Dennison, Kane (Cruise 97'), Quinn, Keeley, Bolger (Cooper 71'), Lambe; Brennan (O'Sullivan 97'), Farrell (Heeney 65'); Markey, Davis (Kareem 95'), Thomas (Oluwa 71').

Man Utd exploring sensational Old Trafford return for David de Gea just days after keeper dropped cryptic hint to fans
Ruben Amorim has been unwilling to make any promises on who will be his No.1 this season INTO TOP GEA Man Utd exploring sensational Old Trafford return for David de Gea just days after keeper dropped cryptic hint to fans MANCHESTER UNITED are making hush-hush checks about a remarkable return for keeper and club legend David de Gea. The Red Devils have been tipped off that the Spaniard, 34, has a clause in his deal at Fiorentina — allowing him to leave for a relatively small sum. 5 Manchester United are making hush-hush checks about a return for David de Gea Credit: Getty 5 Ruben Amorim has kept quiet on his plans for the goalkeeper position this season Credit: Reuters Now discreet background calls are being made after De Gea made a good impression on his return to Old Trafford for a friendly last weekend and told fans their 'paths may cross again'. Ahead of their opener with Arsenal, boss Ruben Amorim has kept Andre Onana guessing over whether he will be his No.1 this term. Amorim said: 'It is like the other players. They all have to win their place. I am not going to say if one guy is number one.' De Gea made 545 appearances for United between 2011 and 2023, putting him seventh on their all-time list. But a dip in form and a contract dispute led to his exit, then former boss Erik ten Hag paid £43.8million to Inter Milan for Onana. De Gea was without a club for the entire 2023-24 season but his hunger and form has returned at Fiorentina. United ideally need Onana, 29, or Turkish back-up stopper Altay Bayindir to leave to free up wages. But they could still find a way to accommodate him if De Gea was cheap enough. 5 5 Andre Onana's future is uncertain Credit: Getty BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS He was presented with a framed picture by former teammate Bruno Fernandes during a pre-season friendly, which finished 1-1, between United and Fiorentina. De Gea then posted on Instagram: 'A magical moment for me and my family to come back to Old Trafford — my home. Wayne Rooney makes Premier League 2025/26 season predictions but his Man Utd tip leaves pundits shocked 'From the bottom of my heart — I want to say thank you for the reception — for all the love you showed me. 'To the supporters that never stopped being with me throughout my time at this club. Our paths may cross again.' Cameroon international Onana is expected to start against the Gunners on Sunday, despite missing all of pre-season with a hamstring injury. United have been linked with several goalkeepers this summer leading to speculation he may be replaced. Among them are Emi Martinez of Aston Villa, Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma and John Victor of Botafogo. 5 De Gea was given a warm welcome on his return to Old Trafford during pre-season Credit: Getty However, Amorim showed faith in the former Inter man during some tough times last season and there has been no new stopper signed this summer. The Portuguese added: 'He is ready to go to the game. Let's wait. You will know on Sunday. 'Myself as a coach, the players who were here last year, we can do better. I have full confidence on that.' Onana returned to training at the beginning of the week after getting an injury in early July. Bayindir, 27, was expected to be sold this summer but has ended up deputising during their unbeaten build up to the season. Antwerp's Senne Lammens, 23, was on United's list but he is now in talks with Inter.

Man City are back? No, squad is ‘not healthy' warns Pep
Pep Guardiola said he was delighted with his new signings' immediate impact in Manchester City's 4-0 rout of Wolves but insisted his squad is too big and at risk of being unhealthy. The summer arrivals Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki both scored in the victory at Molineux, where goalkeeper Ederson and midfielder Savinho were absent amid doubts over their long-term futures. The City manager said the club's hierarchy must 'find a solution' before the transfer window closes next month. The injured City pair Rodri and Phil Foden were in the stands, while Guardiola also cited Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol, who are both nearing returns to match fitness. Ederson has been linked with a move to Galatasaray while Savinho is of interest to Tottenham. Rico Lewis, who is wanted by Nottingham Forest, started at full-back in a sign he could stay at City. Asked if he was happy with his squad after the victory at Wolves, Guardiola replied: 'Too many people. It's not about Eddy [Ederson], today [there] was [no] Rodri, Phil, Kovacic, Savinho and Josko. On the bench we had Nathan [Aké] and Gündo [Ilkay Gündogan]. I like a deep squad to compete in all competitions but I don't want to leave players at home. It's not healthy. You cannot create a good vibe or atmosphere to compete. 'The club has known [about] it since last season but the situation is what it is. In the next two weeks, people will talk with players and agents to find a solution. We have to reduce the squad because it will be difficult to sustain the vibe of the team.' Wolves paid tribute to Diogo Jota in their first competitive game since the death of their former player and his brother, André Silva. 'Jota and his brother are in our minds and were in our hearts before, during and after the game,' said the Wolves head coach, their Portuguese compatriot Vítor Pereira. 'They are still with us and we tried to do our best to honour them as players, people, because of their families. We will keep him in our hearts for the future and he will be with us for ever.' Jota's parents and his wife, Rute Cardoso, were in attendance, along with his former teammate Rúben Neves and Portugal's manager, Roberto Martinez. Guardian
