
Cycle rally held on World Bicycle Day
Kurnool: In a vibrant celebration of World Bicycle Day, a cycle rally was held on Sunday in the city, drawing participation from students, sportspersons, and officials. The event was jointly organised by the District Youth Services Department – Setkur, District Sports Authority, and the Sports Authority of India Training Centre.
The rally was flagged off by Setkur CEO Dr Venu Gopal at the Outdoor Stadium, and passed through Five Roads Junction, Raj Vihar, Zilla Parishad, and the Old Control Room, before concluding back at the stadium.
Speaking at the event, he said the day has been observed globally since 2018 to raise awareness about the benefits of cycling. Though World Bicycle Day is officially marked on June 3 every year, this year the Fit India Mission proposed celebrating it on June 1 with a special campaign titled 'Sundays with Cycles.'
He noted that the 2025 theme, 'Cycling for a Sustainable Future,' underscores the bicycle's role in promoting healthy lifestyles, mental well-being, and environmental protection. 'Everyone should make cycling a part of their daily routine,' he urged.
The rally brought energy to the streets and highlighted the importance of choosing eco-friendly and health-conscious modes of transport.

13km cycle rally to promote physical fitness
Prayagraj: Claiming that cycling has five key benefits, including weight loss, reducing stress and anxiety, improving brain function, cardiovascular exercise and saving money, the citizens of Sangam City on Tuesday celebrated World Bicycle Day (June 3) to promote cycling among all age group for physical fitness. A group of volunteers organised a 13 km cycle rally to promote cycling among people of all ages terming it a simple, affordable and environmentally friendly mode of transport that also offers multiple health benefits. Noted environmentalist Ajay Krantikari, who claimed to cover over one lakh km by cycle in the past 20 years, said, "I have been cycling for the past two decades to promote environment conservation, saving fuel, and ending pollution along with better health across the state. " Doctors claim that cycling helps in burning calories and reduce body fat, making it an effective exercise for weight loss. Similarly, short-distance cycling reduces fuel expenses and eliminates the stress of traffic congestion. A senior health expert said cycling is an excellent cardio workout that strengthens the heart, lungs, and muscles, and can reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Besides, regular cycling also helps in releasing endorphins, the 'feel-good' hormones, which reduce stress and anxiety levels.

Fit India Sundays on Cycle rally salutes India's armed forces
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya and Sharvari lead over 1500 cyclists. The event was part of a nationwide tribute to India's armed forces and marked the 25th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle The 25th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle was celebrated in various parts of the country on Sunday morning as Tiranga Cycling Rally. In Delhi, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya led over 1,500 cyclists at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. He was accompanied by actress Sharvari, Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt , cricketer Saba Karim, and wrestler Sarita Mor. Olympian and wrestling champion Yogeshwar Dutt called the initiative 'a movement that links national health with national pride'. He remarked, 'Young kids, senior citizens, all are participating – that's the power of this campaign. '
