TAMBUNAN: Young athletics sensation Deaxter Pius stole the spotlight at the Tambunan District Schools Sports Council (MSSD) Championship after clocking extraordinary times in the 400-metre and 200-metre events, breaking both State and national school-level records. In the 400 metres, Deaxter recorded a time of 49.52 seconds, not only securing the gold medal but also shattering the Sabah Schools Sports Council (MSSS) record of 50.75 seconds and surpassing the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) record of 49.59 seconds.
Advertisement He also impressed in the 200-metre event, completing the race in 22.36 seconds — beating the MSSS record of 22.50 seconds. This outstanding achievement places Deaxter among the most promising young athletes at the school level today, with high hopes that he will continue to shine in upcoming State and national competitions. This gesture was meant to honour the guests and showcase Sabah's rich cultural heritage. David's Sling secured victory in the 1,600-metre Harvest Festival Mile Cup, while Easylights was crowned champion of the 1,200-metre Sprint Cup. Ewon personally presented the trophies to the Mile Cup winners, adding a special touch to the event, while Wong presented prizes to the winners of the Sprint race. Esfa to hold another football clinic in Keningau

Kota Kinabalu: The Ex State Footballers Association (Esfa) will be organising a basic football skills clinic for 12 to 15-year-old students at SMK Sook in Keningau on June 14-15. A total of 60 boys and 30 girls from SMK Sook and also from SMK Tulid are expected to participate in the programme to be conducted by Yap Wai Loon and Harun Laban for the boys and Suharmin Yusof and Cyril Gom for the girls with assistance from two school teachers. 'We are more than happy to oblige their request. It is very encouraging to note that our programme to conduct such clinics in schools throughout the State to assist Sabah Football Association (Safa) in the development of football received such positive response. 'I believe with the knowledge and experiences of our coaches, the clinic will not only benefit the participants but also the teachers assigned, who will no doubt gain some valuable coaching tips,' he said. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: National mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei came from a game down today to defeat Danish pair Mads Vestergaard-Christine Busch Andreasen and enter the Indonesia Open semi-finals. The Malaysian world No 4 dug deep into their reserves before overcoming the 27th ranked Danish pair 17-21, 21-16, 21-14 in a 50-minute battle – their first encounter in international tournaments. Advertisement Tang Jie-Ee Wei, reunited after a brief separation by the Badminton Association of Malaysia, showed glimpses of their old form, indicating that they are contenders for the Indonesia Open Super 1000 series title. In the semi-finals, Tang Jie-Ee Wei will meet world No 6 Thai pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran, who defeated Malaysia's world No 5 shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie in straight sets.
