GRAZIA Exclusive: Get Ready With Chris Appleton, Inside His First amfAR Gala Cannes in Tom Ford

Few names are as synonymous with red carpet glam as Chris Appleton. Known for creating era-defining hairstyles for the likes of Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, and Dua Lipa, Appleton has long commanded the spotlight behind the scenes. But this year, the visionary stylist stepped into it — making his first appearance at the 2025 amfAR Gala Cannes, one of the most prestigious evenings during the Cannes Film Festival, which raises funds for life-saving AIDS research.
Dressed in Tom Ford, Appleton gave GRAZIA USA exclusive access to his Get Ready With Me routine, walking us through each step — flawless skin, signature hair, and every finishing touch in between.
Below, we follow Appleton through his night, from the calm before the glam to that final red carpet moment. This unforgettable night marks a new chapter for Appleton — one not just defined by the artistry he brings to others, but the confidence and story he's owning for himself. GRWM Chris Appleton x GRAZIA USA : amfAR Gala Cannes 2025 Setting the Scene Photo courtesy of Chris Appleton GRAZIA: Let's set the scene. What was the vibe like getting ready for the amfAR Gala at Cannes? How did you spend the day leading up to the event?
CHRIS APPLETON: I had a great workout session; I have jetlag from traveling a lot, it's a great way to get the blood flowing. I took a dip in the ocean for a bit of cardio. I received a red carpet facial from Nilam Holmes and just tried to take in Cannes because it's been a few years since I have been here. Details Make the Look Photo courtesy of Chris Appleton GRAZIA: You're wearing Tom Ford tonight — what drew you to this look, and how would you describe the overall vibe you were going for?
APPLETON: amFAR is such a big red carpet; it felt very classic and timeless. It's very old Hollywood-esque and I wanted to fit the vibe. I wanted to look back on these pics and feel like it was a classic look that's very me. I added details with these diamond cufflinks by Tom Ford. Grooming Essentials Photo courtesy of Chris Appleton GRAZIA: Walk us through your GRWM routine — any signature skincare or grooming steps you never skip before a red carpet?
APPLETON: I love a good face mask like the LaMer face mask sheet; it tingles to wake skin up. I use my Dr. Diamond Metacin and LaMer moisturizer, and love the Upneeq Eye Drops to open up the eyes. I did have a pimple this morning, so my pimple patches came in clutch. The Signature Hair Moment Photo courtesy of Chris Appleton GRAZIA: We know hair is your specialty — how did you approach your own hair styling for the Gala? Did you do it yourself or trust someone else with the finishing touch?
APPLETON: For my hair, I do it myself. I know the little tricks to make it look the way I want. I wanted my look to be signature Chris Appleton, which tends to be more platinum, but I wanted to be more natural, so I did a low-light blonde. Style in Motion Photo courtesy of Chris Appleton GRAZIA: What's the one grooming product or hair tool that's an absolute must for your red carpet prep and why?
APPLETON: I always use my Color Wow Dream Coat because it won't let the moisture in to keep my hair from going flat. The Final Touches Photo courtesy of Chris Appleton GRAZIA: There's always a moment where everything comes together — suit on, hair done, cologne spritzed. What was that final moment of transformation like for you today?
APPLETON: For me, the last finishing touches are the last spray of the hair. After that, everything feels like it goes back to place. APPLETON: For whatever reason, it can always be a little anxious. It always feels a bit overwhelming. I am just grateful to be there, and it's exciting. APPLETON: I think there are so many times that I have felt like I have been put in a box. I get the 'You are just a hairstylist,' often. But I have always pushed, if someone says no, if I can't go in the front door, I will take the side door. I have never taken no for an answer, and don't think you are going to get a yes. And most times, you won't get a yes. The Big Moment Photo courtesy of Chris Appleton GRAZIA: The amfAR Gala is such a powerful night for fashion and philanthropy. What does attending this event mean to you personally and professionally?
APPLETON: Attending this event is an evolution of me and my career, and really rewarding to be attending such a special event, showing how far I have come. About the amfAR Gala Cannes

Maria Grazia Chiuri Exits Dior After Nine Years

Maria Grazia Chiuri walks the runway during the Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall Winter 2022 2023 show as part of Paris Fashion Week on July 04, 2022 in Paris, France. (Photo by Stephane Cardinale – Corbis/Corbis via Getty Images) Maria Grazia Chiuri, the first woman to ever lead Dior's women's collections, is exiting the French house after nearly a decade at the helm. Appointed in 2016, Chiuri brought with her a resolutely feminist vision that reverberated through every runway, beginning with her Spring/Summer 2017 debut, where models wore slogan tees emblazoned with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's now-famous line: 'We should all be feminists.' 'Christian Dior Couture announces that Maria Grazia Chiuri has decided to leave her position as Creative Director of women's haute couture, ready-to-wear and accessories collections,' read a statement from the Maison. 'The House of Dior wishes to express today its deepest gratitude to Maria Grazia Chiuri after a wonderful collaboration as Creative Director of women's collections since 2016.' Chiuri's time at Dior was prolific. Across couture, ready-to-wear and accessories, Chiuri reframed femininity not as a trending aesthetic but as a dialogue, collaborating with and honouring artists like Judy Chicago, Elena Bellantoni, and Faith Ringgold, and consistently spotlighting female artisans in Mumbai. Under her creative leadership, the house saw commercial and creative growth, with sales soaring from €2.2 billion to a peak of €9.5 billion in 2023. (Photo by Victor VIRGILE/Gamma-Rapho via Getty Images) Delphine Arnault, Dior's Chairman and CEO, praised Chiuri for her 'inspiring feminist perspective and exceptional creativity,' noting that she 'greatly contributed to [Dior's] remarkable growth.' Chiuri, for her part, thanked the ateliers and the women artists who helped realise her vision. 'I am particularly grateful for the work accomplished by my teams and the Ateliers,' she wrote. 'Their talent and expertise allowed me to realise my vision of committed women's fashion, in close dialogue with several generations of female artists. Together, we have written an impactful chapter of which I am immensely proud.' From resurrecting the Saddle Bag to reinterpreting Marc Bohan's Miss Dior line, Chiuri saw herself as a curator of Dior's expansive legacy—not just of its founder, but of the visionaries who followed. As the house enters a new era—Jonathan Anderson now leading Dior Men, and senior leadership recalibrations still yet to be confirmed—speculation swirls about her successor. In an emotional farewell to the House, Chiuri presented her final collection, Cruise 2026, in her hometown of Rome this week.

Getting Ready with Pritika Swarup for the 2025 Cannes Film Festival Closing Ceremony

Pritika Swarup x GRAZIA USA: Cannes Film Festival 2025; Photo Credit: Gabriele Di Martino When it comes to seamlessly blending elegance, intellect, and global impact, Pritika Swarup stands in a league of her own. The international fashion model, Ivy League graduate, Operation Smile Global Ambassador, and founder of holistic beauty brand Prakti turned heads at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival Closing Ceremony — and took GRAZIA USA behind the scenes for an exclusive digital photo diary capturing every meaningful moment. The Magic of the Moment: What Cannes Means to Pritika Swarup The Cannes Film Festival is one of the most iconic celebrations of global cinema, but the Closing Ceremony holds a particular significance. It's a night where the industry's most distinguished talents gather to honor storytelling at its finest, dressed in couture that speaks volumes. For Swarup, returning to Cannes felt deeply personal. Photo Credit: Diana Catch 'Being here tonight is incredibly special,' she shares with us. 'It's my second time attending the Cannes Film Festival closing ceremony, and each time feels like a true honor… It reminds me of my journey so far and how grateful I am to grow alongside so many extraordinary artists we're here to celebrate.' How She Gets Ready: Ritual, Rhythm, and Radiance Behind the glamour lies intention. Before stepping into the spotlight, Swarup begins with a deep, grounding ritual — a holistic approach that reflects her Ayurvedic roots and personal wellness philosophy. Photo Credit: Gabriele Di Martino 'I start with grounding rituals — meditation, breathwork, and skin prep using Prakti's PritiPolish Instant Glow Exfoliator and SundaSkin Essential Hydrating Serum,' she explains. 'All beauty begins within… Even a few minutes of breathwork or journaling can completely shift my energy. I approach well-being holistically, often turning to the Ayurvedic principles I grew up with — focusing on balance, alignment, and inner harmony. For me, it's about staying connected to myself, even in the midst of all the chaos and excitement,' she continues. 'And during glam, I blast a power playlist — everything from Bollywood to The Weeknd — to get into my zone.' The Glam Plan: Elevating Old Hollywood with a Modern Twist Every element of Swarup's red carpet look was chosen with precision and care — from her sculptural Zuhair Murad gown to her velvet-tied waves. Together, the ensemble told a story of femininity, strength, and grace. Photo Credit: Gabriele Di Martino 'For the closing ceremony, we were channeling elegant and sculptural but with a softness that felt fresh and unexpected,' she notes. 'Fabio Petri created a beautiful half-up, half-down hairstyle with soft waves and a velvet bow… Soo Park gave me radiant, sculpted skin, a subtle, smokey bronzed eye, and a plush nude lip that brought dimension. We wanted it to feel powerful yet ethereal.' From Virginia Beach to the Croisette: Carrying Heritage with Pride At a festival known for cinematic storytelling, Swarup uses fashion and beauty to tell her own. Photo Credit: Gabriele Di Martino 'My Indian heritage is a constant source of strength and inspiration… On an international stage like Cannes, I see it as an opportunity to share my own narrative. I carry that legacy with pride and always hope to reflect it with grace and intention.' Fashion with Purpose: A Statement Beyond Style The red carpet is about identity, heritage, and self-expression to Swarup. With every detail, she brings her story to life. Photo Credit: Gabriele Di Martino 'Zuhair Murad is a dear friend and a true master of intricate craftsmanship and timeless elegance… Its [the gown] sweeping velvet cape and elegant gloves, paired with the beautiful sheer silhouette, strike the perfect balance between delicate and powerful. The gown embodies a refined femininity that perfectly reflects how I wanted to feel tonight, graceful and effortlessly chic. To me, it captures the spirit and glamour of Cannes.' Balancing the Chaos: Staying Grounded While on the Move While Cannes is all glam on the outside, the lead-up to the ceremony wasn't without its curveballs. A citywide power outage added chaos to an already high-energy day. Photo Credit: Gabriele Di Martino 'When the electricity went out in Cannes for hours before the closing ceremony, everyone started panicking. It was chaotic — hair tools weren't working, lights were out, and for a second, it felt like the entire evening might unravel,' she admits. 'But my team pulled it all together… It reminded me that no matter how polished things look on the outside, it's the resilience, creativity, and teamwork behind the scenes that make the real magic happen.' Dressing with Intention: The Message in the Look More than just a beautiful ensemble, the multi-hyphenate's look carried a message. Photo Credit: Gabriele Di Martino 'I wanted this look to reflect the harmony between strength and softness — two sides of my story. It's about celebrating the complexity of womanhood: bold yet tender, fierce yet graceful.' The Finishing Touch: Jewelry That Speaks Volumes Swarup chose Boucheron diamonds to complete her look — delicate yet striking pieces that added dimension to her soft-glam silhouette. Photo Credit: Gabriele Di Martino 'I chose Boucheron for their timeless artistry. I wore delicate diamond earrings and a ring, each piece thoughtfully chosen for its structured beauty that echoes the gown's elegance. Together, they brought a sense of refinement and sophistication.' Style on a World Stage: What Cannes Fashion Means to Her At Cannes, style becomes symbolic — and for Swarup, fashion is a medium for meaning. Photo Credit: Diana Catch 'Fashion on the Cannes red carpet is a way to express who I am in that moment… For me, it's about how the look makes me feel, what it represents, and the story I want to share with the world. I'm drawn to pieces that carry emotion, heritage, and impeccable craftsmanship — those details that elevate fashion into true art. When it all comes together, it tells a powerful story.' A Lasting Impression As the curtain closed on another unforgettable Cannes Film Festival, Pritika Swarup's presence on the red carpet served as a reminder that true beauty lies not just in the gowns or the glamour — but in the intention, identity, and inner strength behind it all. Through her holistic rituals, thoughtful fashion choices, and unwavering grace, Swarup didn't just attend the closing ceremony — she embodied its spirit. And with every step, she continues to redefine what it means to be a modern woman on the world stage: grounded, empowered, and unapologetically herself — with an elegant and meaningful sense of style.
