Francis Ford Coppola 'hospitalised in Italy' after attending film festival
It is understood the movie director entered the hospital this morning for scheduled heart surgery but after arriving, he reportedly experienced a mild cardiac arrhythmia and was placed under observation before surgery.
He spent a lot of the summer in Italy scouting locations for his new film, which is said to start filming this autumn, as reported by ANSA.
While at the film festival, he said to the crowd: "Young people tell me the world is a mess, but I tell them there's no problem that humanity can't solve. We must build a great new future, and do it together for the sake of our children. And tonight, we're taking a leap into the future."
The legendary director has close ties to the country after his grandfather, Agostino, emigrated from Bernalda in the early 1900s. In 1989, Francis became an honoray citizen of the town he spends a lot of his time.
The Mirror have reached out to his reps for comment.
Earlier this month, the Apocalypse Now director appeared at San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts to take part in a Q&A session following a screening of Megalopolis.
The decades-in-the-making project, which received mixed reviews, stars Adam Driver as a rich and tortured visionary trying to build a utopian city while rowing with a conservative mayor. The film cost a whopping $120million but grossed just over $14million worldwide.
However, Coppola wasn't bothered by the box office results and said: "I lost my wife a year ago, around this time. But my attitude for death is that I always lived my life so that when I was at the moment approaching death, I wouldn't say, 'Oh, I wish I had done this and I wish I had done that.' Instead, I say to myself, 'I got to do this.''
'I got to see my daughter win an Oscar. I got to see my father win an Oscar. I'm going to be so busy saying all the things I got to do that when I die, I'm not going to notice it. When I die, I'm not going to notice it. You know how your electric toothbrush just shuts off when you least expect it? That's what death is like.'

Destination X players thrown into chaos by next location – would you have got it from show clues?
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) DESTINATION X players were left confused tonight after a series of clues and red herrings, but did you get it right? Rob Brydon is the host of the new BBC show, which sees a group of strangers try to figure out where they are in Europe through a series of clues in a bid to win £100,000. Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up 5 Destination X contestants found themselves in chaos and confused over the next location Credit: BBC 5 The third episode saw the group split into two teams - and deception soon occurred Credit: PA Episode two ended with the Matterhorn being the destination, and Rob told viewers in tonight's episode that the bus was moving on to one of the five countries that borders with Switzerland. The windows of the bus are usually blacked out so the group can't get a steer on where they are, but at one point tonight, they were given the chance to look out and saw a roundabout with large red balls in the middle. The first clue had them thoroughly perplexed, but once they boarded a luxury train, they received more. Split into two teams, they headed into their respective carriages and saw a postcard with Oscar-winning actress Audrey Hepburn, a ticket stub with 'Oktober' written on it and a slip of paper with the word 'Dienstabteil' printed. Another postcard featured a print which player Saskia asked: "Do we think these are roads or vines or like a forest maybe?" Meanwhile a book had a stamp from the Bavarian State Library. The two teams then went head-to-head in a challenge onboard the train, with the winning group receiving the chance to go into a glass sided carriage to discover more clues. The team that won consisted of Josh, Judith and Saskia, and when they reached the carriage they saw they were moving through a forest. The train slowed down for them to see a number of new clues, which included a sign reading 'Donau' and a group of naturists eating large sausages and drinking from big glass beer steins. Meanwhile in the carriage, there was a football magazine with Harry Kane on the front which read 'Harry Kane strikes again' . Fans stunned as THREE Destination X contestants are immediately axed in brutal opening twist The clues all lead to Germany, and the winning team were convinced it was Munich, but decided to throw some red herrings into the mix when they returned to the others, and suggest what they had seen was pointing to Dortmund. But what did you think? The episode featured a brutal twist which saw the three players who failed to make it onto the bus in episode one return in a bid to try and win a spot on board. LOSING GAME After a series of head-to-heads with Ben, James and Nick from the losing team, James was sent home there and then. The remaining players then entered their guesses for Destination X into the computer, before Rob revealed the results. It turned out Ben had been furthest from the actual location and would be leaving too. And if you had guessed Munich, you were correct! Well done! Destination X continues tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One. 5 England footballer Harry Kane featured among the clues Credit: BBC 5 Contestants analysed ticket stubs to try and figure out the location Credit: BBC

Destination X star James 'broke down' over emotional twist in scenes cut from show
EXCLUSIVE: Destination X star James has opened up about his sudden exit from the BBC One show, revealing that he was left in floods of tears in an unaired moment Tonight's episode of Destination X saw the show brutally dump two contestants from the cross-country coach, with James and Ben being the next stars to leave the BBC show. Now, e-commerce manager James has spoken out about his exit, revealing that the show didn't air scenes in which he became very emotional. After contestants Ashvin, Chloe-Anne and Claire returned to the show after being dumped at the airport in episode one, they were made to compete against Ben, Nick and James for a chance to rejoin the game. Unfortunately, one contestant would not be boarding the bus again - and that turned out to be James after losing out in the task. Speaking to The Mirror about his exit, James said: "My saddest day is going to be leaving. I don't know whether they use the footage or not but honestly I absolutely broke down crying my eyes out. "I'm quite a tough person and it's quite a lot to get me to show my emotions. That just ripped me to pieces. You don't have your phone, you don't have any means of what you would class as a normal life comfort so you are constantly living in this sense of unknown." He added: "You don't know where you are. You really don't have much control over what you eat because you're obviously constantly travelling and you're in a bubble of unfamiliarity with everything. It just climaxed with me going home." Despite his emotional exit, James said that he wouldn't change his experience "for the world". He said: "I went into the whole experience with the mindset that I'm so over the moon that I even get the opportunity to do it so regardless as to any outcome, it was a win for me." While living on the show's bus may have looked cramped, James admitted that the contestants each got a luxurious night's sleep. "I was just so thankful that they didn't skimp on the bedding because let me tell you right now - that bed was so comfy," he said. James added that he's also made friends for life despite his short time on the show. "I'll 110% keep in touch with all of them," he said. "We watched the first episode together before it went out and it was so nice to see everyone again. You all leave at slightly different times so you've got disjointed parts of a story. It all feels a bit like a dream because you're sharply whisked away and then sharply whisked back."
