
Every 2026 Dodge Durango Gets a V8, the V6 Is Dead
Efficiency? Where we are going in America we don't need efficiency. We need power. Dodge just gave it to everyone.
The 2026 Dodge Durango will come standard with a V8 engine as standard. The V6 engine? It's dead.*
That asterisk is because fleet customers can still order a V6-powered Durango, but a normal consumer? Nope, not after August 13. 'It's all Hemi all the time,' a spokesperson told The Drive .
Dodge's all-in assault on efficiency and 'underpowered vehicles' will cost $42,495, presumably not including an unknown destination charge. That price puts a standard 5.7-liter Hemi V8 under the hood, which has 65 horsepower more than the V6, though final output hasn't been released yet.
The 2026 Durango R/T now gets what was an old SRT engine, the 392 cubic inch 6.4-liter Hemi V8, and it's implied that this engine is now standard. Power output will check in at 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, which is 115 more horsepower than the 2025 model's 5.7-liter Hemi. The 2026 Durango R/5 will cost less than $50,000, according to Dodge, and that probably doesn't include a destination charge.
The Hellcat? It's not only living on, it gained the Jailbreak customization options. It also received a massive price cut. The 2026 Dodge Durango Hellcat will cost $79,995, which likely does not include a destination charge. The 2025 Durango Hellcat Silver Bullet edition cost for about $115,000, while the base 2025 Durango Hellcat cost about $102,000. That's price cut of about $22,000.
The Durango became a staple in the Dodge lineup and the V8 was keeping the current model alive. Plans for the next-gen Durango have shifted many times at this point. Currently it's clear the current Durango is alive, well, and has an eight-cylinder heart.
Orders for the 2026 Dodge Durango GT and Hellcat begin on August 13 with arrivals beginning in the fourth quarter. The 392-powered 2026 Durango R/T order bank won't open until 'late 2025.'
The only thing missing from this entire presentation was a bald eagle and fireworks. It's Hemi time at Dodge, at least in its three-row SUV.

Test Driving The 2025 Acura ADX Subcompact SUV
The all new 2025 Acura ADX SUV is the latest model added to the Acura luxury brand's line up. It slots below the compact RDX and the midsize, three-row MDX SUV. As Acura's smallest SUV it's no surprise to learn it shares a fair amount of its mechanicals with Acura's smallest sedan, the Integra. For instance, both vehicles are powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which makes 190 hp and 179 pound feet torque in the Acura ADX. This engine is attached to a continuously variable transmission, or CVT. Employing a CVT is an unusual decision by Acura, because car savvy consumers will question the wisdom of a brand with the tagline 'Precision Crafted Performance" for using a CVT. These transmissions are known for their droning, lifeless acceleration, which kills any driver enjoyment. To Acura's credit, it equipped the ADX with paddle shifters on the steering wheel while giving the transmission simulated 'shifting' characteristics accessible via those paddles. This was all done in an attempt to counteract the CVT's lack of personality during aggressive acceleration. Acura ADX Pricing Starts at $36,350 The 2025 Acura ADX provides several premium features on the base trim, including LED front and rear exterior lighting, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a sunroof, heated front seats with synthetic leather, a power liftgate, and 18-inch wheels. It's an impressive list of equipment for $36,350. The mid-grade ADX A-Spec adds 19-inch wheels, ventilated front seats, a larger sunroof, and suede seat inserts for $39,350. The top trim ADX A-Spec Advance adds leather upholstery, a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, a heated steering wheel, and driver's seat memory for $43,350. Our test car was a top-trim ADX A-Spec Advance with the 19-inch Berlina Black wheels and a compelling shade of Urban Gray paint. Inside, the plush white leather seats (with contrasting blue suede insets) gave the cabin a luxurious look and feel. Those leather-and-suede seats might have proven hot and sweaty on a 90-degree Southern California summer day, but their ventilation system effectively cooled them off as we drove the Acura ADX through South Orange County. Acura ADX Offers Impressive Interior Space The ADX's interior not only delivers on its luxury promise but also provides plenty of space for adults in both the first and second row. My 6-foot frame was fully coddled in the driver's seat, while also fitting behind the driver's seat when adjusted for me. Not every subcompact SUV can carry four 6-foot adults in comfort, but the ADX can. And behind the second row seat there's 24 cubic feet of cargo space. And if you fold those second row seats down you get 55 cubic feet of space. Very impressive given the Acura ADX's small exterior footprint. And like every modern luxury SUV you can open and close the ADX's power liftgate using a button on the rear hatch, or a button on the key fob. But Acura adds a bit of sophistication, with an ability to automatically close the liftgate when you walk away from the rear of the ADX. The assumption being that if you have to wrap your arms around all the items in the cargo area, you won't have a free hand to close the liftgate. So when you hit the 'close' button on the liftgate it will wait until you walk away, giving you time to grab your items and leave without needing a free hand to close the hatch. Acura ADX's Transmission Limits Performance So the ADX looks good, offers a long list of luxury features, and provides a surprising amount of interior space. But does it deliver on Acura's promise? Does it provide the 'precision crafted performance' the brand touts in its ads? Well, it's certainly equipped with what you'd expect from a performance-oriented luxury model. The ADX rides on an independent front and rear suspension, and its electric-assist power steering lives up to Acura's legacy of delivering exceptional feel and feedback. Put it in 'Sport' mode and the ADX's lack of body roll and capable brakes make it confident on twisty roads. However, when it's time to gather speed, either from a stop or when exiting a corner, the Acura ADX's CVT does what every CVT does – mutes throttle response while delivering lackluster, droning acceleration. The little SUV's performance pedigree, which includes a flat-bottom steering wheel, racy graphics in the 10.2-inch gauge cluster, and an optional $2,000 all-wheel-drive system (that can deliver up to 50 percent of power to the rear wheels), feel out of place, and honestly wasted, when paired with a drivetrain that takes nearly 9 seconds to reach 60 mph. The Acura ADX Remains Appealing This is truly unfortunate, because everything else about the Acura ADX works well. The plush interior materials, the dedicated climate controls below the intuitive 9-inch central touchscreen, the traditional volume knob (far too many modern vehicles have lost that simple-yet-perfect feature), the quiet cabin at highway speeds and confident handling around corners. Acura's effort to give drivers some 'shifting' control with the ADX's steering wheel paddles is commendable, but ultimately the automaker can't alter the inherent nature of a CVT. It's worth noting the ADX's mixed EPA rating of 27 mpg. That number is higher than most competitors, and the CVT undoubtedly contributes to it. If fuel efficiency is more important to you than 0-60 times or driver engagement, the 2025 Acura ADX may be your ideal choice in the subcompact luxury SUV category.

Bay Area's Casual Carpool to relaunch after coming to a halt during pandemic
Casual Carpool, the unique commuting tradition where strangers ride together to get across the Bay Bridge faster and cheaper, was halted during the pandemic. But it's set to relaunch on Tuesday. Main organizer Camille Bermudez is determined to bring it back. "The ease of it, the flexibility of it and honestly, the cost effectiveness of it," said Bermudez about why she feels it would benefit people. Bermudez's first experience with Casual Carpool was as a teenager, but it started long before she ever got in line. "Thirty-five plus years ago about," Bermudez said about just how long ago it launched for the first time. "Maybe even longer, which is great." Bermudez felt this was the perfect time to bring it back, as more companies are requiring people to return to the office. She has to be back in the office five days a week starting September 1st. She decided to reach out to people online to see what others thought of the idea. "We started back on June 8, starting with a survey and really using social media to get the word out there," Bermudez explained. Through the responses, she found a location in the Grand Lake neighborhood, in a parking lot near the corner of Lake Park Avenue and Lakeshore Avenue, was where people most wanted to use the service. After Tuesday, it will run Monday-Friday during carpool hours, 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The system is simple: drivers stop by, pick up the first two people in line, enough to qualify for discounted tolls, and take the Bay Bridge into San Francisco. Passengers will be dropped off at the 400 block of Howard Street. "Drivers get the benefit of shorter commute," detailed Bermudez about how they can use the carpool lane. "Flexible timing as far as when they leave their home, as well as we do encourage a monetary contribution for the drivers to kind of help with that expense of the toll." Bermudez says she used to use the system as both a driver and a passenger, and she's always had a positive experience. "I actually ended up meeting an alumni from my high school, so Saint Ignatius," said Bermudez. "I met someone in the car and we had started talking, things ike, 'are you from the bay area, are you a native?' and they ended up saying 'oh I went to SI' and I lit up." Some other people have made friends, or even more significant relationships. "Very excitedly, we do have somebody who got married through Casual Carpool," said Bermudez. "They are still together." But she says most rides are uneventful, quiet, and easy way to get into the city. She's hopeful that after launching with this one stop, they'll be able to expand to the 20+ locations that used to exist pre-pandemic. "Just really excited to see this coming back and then once we have this location up and running the plan is to get the Sacramento Street and 64th and Christie Avenue in Emeryville up and running within a month," Bermudez explained. Should You Buy Rivian Stock While It's Below $17?
Key Points Rivian's deliveries are stagnating in this challenging macro environment. But it expects the R2's launch to breathe fresh life into its business. Its stock would be undervalued if it can pull off that turnaround. 10 stocks we like better than Rivian Automotive › Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN) posted its second-quarter earnings report on Aug. 5. The electric vehicle maker's revenue rose 13% year over year to $1.3 billion, exceeding analysts' expectations by $10 million. Its total deliveries declined 23% to 10,661 vehicles, but it offset that pressure with rising software and service revenues. Unfortunately, its gross margin -- which turned green in the first quarter of 2025 -- turned red again in the second quarter. It only produced 5,979 vehicles during the quarter, which marked a 38% drop from a year ago. It narrowed its net loss from $1.5 billion to $1.1 billion, but its loss of $0.80 per share still missed the consensus forecast by $0.16. Rivian's mixed numbers didn't impress the market, and the stock remains 30% below its 52-week high of $17.15 on May 20. Should you buy it before it bounces back? Why isn't Rivian impressing investors? Rivian sells three types of EVs: the R1T pickup, the R1S full-size SUV, and electric delivery vans for its top investor Amazon and other customers. Before its IPO in November 2021, Rivian claimed it could produce 50,000 vehicles in 2022. Rivian grappled with supply chain constraints in 2022. Its production and deliveries accelerated in 2023 as it overcame those challenges, but its expansion stalled out again in 2024 as rising interest rates chilled the high-end EV market, more competitors carved up the market, and it temporarily shut down its main plant to upgrade its production lines. For 2025, it expects to only deliver 40,000 to 46,000 vehicles. Analysts expect its revenue to rise 6% to $5.29 billion as it slightly narrows its net loss to $3.7 billion. It blames that slowdown on ongoing supply chain challenges, higher tariffs on raw materials and batteries, and another shutdown of its main plant as it gears up for the rollout of its smaller R2 SUV in 2026. That dim near-term outlook is weighing down Rivian's stock. Could Rivian be a deep value play? Rivian is struggling to scale up its business, but it expects the R2's launch to attract a much broader range of customers. It also plans to keep selling its regulatory credits to other automakers while expanding its software and services segment to boost its gross margin. At the end of the second quarter, it still had $8.52 billion in total liquidity -- including $7.51 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments. That cash should carry it through the launch of the R2 and help it ramp up production as the macro environment improves. If it can pull that off, analysts expect Rivian's revenue to rise 34% to $7.1 billion in 2026 and grow another 52% to $10.8 billion in 2027. They also expect it to gradually narrow its net losses. With an enterprise value of $13.2 billion, Rivian trades at just 2 times next year's sales. That makes it look like a value play compared to Tesla, which trades at 9 times next year's sales. Therefore, any positive news could cause Rivian's stock to double or triple -- and it would still be considered reasonably valued relative to its growth potential. That might be why insiders bought slightly more shares than they sold over the past 12 months. Amazon also hasn't sold any of its shares in Rivian since its IPO, and Rivian is still supported by other big investors like Porsche and the Saudi Arabian conglomerate Abdul Latif Jameel. Rivian is still a highly speculative stock, and there's no guarantee it can overcome its growing pains and evolve into another EV giant like Tesla. But if it gets its act together, expands its addressable market with the R2, and ramps up production, it could eventually command a much higher valuation.
