Dream debut for Deeromram as he turns finisher twice in Red Giants victory

PETALING JAYA: It was a dream night for Kevin Deeromram as the Selangor wingback scored twice in their 3-0 Super League victory over Brunei on Tuesday.
Remarkably, the 27-year-old is not even a striker.
Deeromram found the net in the fifth and 36th minutes at the Petaling Jaya Stadium, both goals coming from pinpoint crosses delivered by fellow wingback Quentin Cheng. Relishing a role reversal: Selangor's Kevin Deeromram rejoicing after scoring a brace in their 3-0 win over Brunei. — Selangor FC
It was a role reversal for Deeromram, who is usually the one providing assists.
During his stint with Thailand's Port FC, particularly last season, he was a creative force – topping the assist charts with 11.
Brazilian winger Chrigor Moraes then wrapped up the win for the Red Giants with a 67th-minute strike.
For Deeromram, it was the perfect way to mark his first home appearance.
'Our aim was to get our first three points and we did it,' said the Swedish-born Thai international.
'I'm delighted to score my first goals for the club and to experience the atmosphere here in Petaling Jaya. It was beautiful, and I hope it continues.
'I hope the fans enjoy the way I play. Of course, scoring is a great way to introduce myself, but I still prefer creating chances for my teammates as that's my style, and that's why I was brought here.'
The win was also the ideal response to their disappointing 0-3 defeat to Johor Darul Ta'zim in the Charity Shield on Aug 8.
'We didn't perform well against JDT, so we had a chat after the game about what we could do better,' said Deeromram.
The left-sided flyer says he is settling quickly in Malaysia, thanks to the warm welcome from his teammates and coaches.
'I'm adapting well as the boys have been great, and the coach has been clear with what he wants.
'The Malaysian League is competitive, quite similar to what I experienced in Thailand.'
Beyond club success, Kevin has another target in mind – a return to the Thai national team ahead of next month's international window.
Thailand will compete in the King's Cup in Kanchanaburi, facing Fiji first on Sept 4, followed by either Iraq or Hong Kong on Sept 7.
'I would love to play for Thailand again and I want to be given that chance. Hopefully, the coach calls me up for the upcoming camp.'
For now, though, Selangor fans will be hoping for Deeromram to not just provide assists, but take his chances too.

Soccer-Richarlison double as slick Spurs outclass Burnley

Soccer Football - Premier League - Tottenham Hotspur v Burnley - Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, Britain - August 16, 2025 Tottenham Hotspur's Richarlison celebrates scoring their second goal with Pedro Porro Action Images via Reuters/Matthew Childs LONDON (Reuters) -Tottenham Hotspur launched the Thomas Frank era in emphatic style with a convincing 3-0 Premier League victory over promoted Burnley on Saturday as Richarlison's majestic double set the tone for a dominant home performance. The Brazilian forward struck in the 10th minute, converting a cross from new recruit Mohammed Kudus, before the pair combined again on the hour mark for a spectacular second goal that showcased Richarlison's aerial prowess. Brennan Johnson added the third six minutes later but it was no meek surrender from the visitors, as they managed to take nearly as many shots as Tottenham without finding the net. "I'm extremely happy with the three goals and the clean sheet. If I'm brutally honest, I felt we were a little bit out of synch at times, but the overall performance was good," Frank said. "I like the mentality and the hard work. We worked a lot on crosses, which is big for me, and we scored from two of them. That's an element I was very happy with." The victory was notable for a Premier League first as Burnley keeper Martin Dubravka conceded a corner under new rules, for holding the ball for more than eight seconds. Spurs took the lead when they won the ball back in Burnley's half with their high press, and Kudus found space on the flank to whip in a cross for Richarlison to fire the ball past Dubravka. Spurs had the lion's share of possession and although Burnley responded well and grew into the game by pressing high and forcing turnovers, the visitors failed to beat Guglielmo Vicario. Frank's side came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, pinning Burnley back for long periods and they were rewarded when Richarlison grabbed his second. ACROBATIC EFFORT Kudus created space on the right to cross and Richarlison, stationed near the penalty spot, volleyed home with an acrobatic effort reminiscent of his overhead kick against Serbia at the 2022 World Cup. "Thank you for the assists," Richarlison said as he patted Kudus on the shoulder. "I'm so happy with this guy. Next week he deserves to score because he works so hard for the team." Spurs had a spring in their step and as Burnley looked to gain a foothold in the game, the home side won the ball back in midfield through Richarlison and Pape Matar Sarr set Johnson on his way before the winger slipped the ball past Dubravka. "We went a goal down and responded well, creating chances. We missed a massive chance on about 58 minutes to get back in it," Burnley manager Scott Parker said. "Then they produce a world-class finish and it took the game away from us." Richarlison looked disappointed at not being given the chance to bag a hat-trick when Frank substituted him, but his replacement Dominic Solanke nearly made it 4-0 when he spun on the spot and fired wide. Kudus received a standing ovation for his two assists and the Spurs fans also showed their support for Mathys Tel, who had been racially abused online after their Super Cup defeat by Paris St Germain on Wednesday. Soccer-Dazzling double for Richarlison, winning return to Premier League for Sunderland

Soccer Football - Premier League - Tottenham Hotspur v Burnley - Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, Britain - August 16, 2025 Tottenham Hotspur's Richarlison celebrates scoring their second goal with Pedro Porro Action Images via Reuters/Matthew Childs LONDON (Reuters) -Tottenham Hotspur kicked off the Thomas Frank era in style with a 3-0 win over Burnley, powered by a dazzling double from Richarlison, on the first Saturday of the Premier League season. Sunderland celebrated their return to England's top flight with a 3-0 victory over West Ham United, while Aston Villa survived defender Ezri Konsa's dismissal to salvage a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United with the visitors missing want-away striker Alexander Isak. On the south coast, Rodrigo Muniz's last-gasp goal gave Fulham a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion. Wolverhampton Wanderers were hosting Manchester City in Saturday's late game. At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs gave Frank a comprehensive victory in his first home match in charge, while it was a harsh welcome back to the league for Burnley. Richarlison slotted home Mohammed Kudus's cross in the 10th minute, and the Brazilian linked up with Kudus again on the hour mark when he dived to fire home Kudus's cross with a stunning acrobatic volley. Brennan Johnson added a third goal on the counter-attack six minutes later. The victory was notable for a Premier League first as Burnley keeper Martin Dubravka conceded the first corner kick of the season under new rules after holding the ball for more than eight seconds. Sunderland had a dream start to their return to the top flight after eight years at a jubilant Stadium of Light. The opening half saw the hosts still finding their rhythm against a disjointed Hammers side but they grew into the game, and Eliezer Mayenda broke the deadlock in the 61st minute. Sunderland kept up the momentum and Daniel Ballard scored 12 minutes later, while Wilson Isidor had the home fans in a frenzy with another goal in injury time. At Villa Park, the home side were thrown into disarray in the 66th minute when Konsa was shown a straight red cardfor pulling down Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon while he was in hot pursuit of a through ball from Anthony Elanga. Newcastle continued to fire crosses into the box but without a recognised centre-forward such as Isak, who wants to leave amid interest from champions Liverpool, they could not convert them and the game ended in stalemate. Villa boss Unai Emery said he and his team should never accept dropping two points at home. "With the circumstances we had with the red card and how we were the last 30 minutes more or less, with added time, we have to accept it," said the Spaniard. Brighton appeared to be heading for a victory after Matt O'Riley's goal from the penalty spot early in the second half, but Fulham salvaged a draw from a corner in the 96th minute when substitute Muniz lashed in from close range. "For sure it feels painful," Brighton manager Fabian Huerzeler told the BBC. "We should score the second goal and I think the game would be over. That's football." Penalty heartbreak for Kuching as Brunei seize first leg advantage in FA Cup tie

The hosts made a dream start when Indonesian forward Ramadhan Sananta slid a defence-splitting pass for skipper Azwan Ali Rahman, who coolly slotted past goalkeeper Haziq Nadzli in the fifth minute. That early strike jolted Kuching into life, and they gradually took control of the contest. Their pressure finally paid off in the 42nd minute when Timor Leste winger Joao Pedro burst down the right and squared for Cameroonian striker Ronald Ngah, who tapped in the equaliser. Two minutes into the second half, Kuching went ahead through Nigerian defender James Okwuosa, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to score from close range. But the advantage lasted less than a minute. Brunei hit back instantly as Portuguese winger Miguel Oliveira collected a long ball from Nazirrudin Haji Ismail, weaved past two defenders and slotted home to make it 2-2. The hosts regained the lead in the 78th minute when substitute Australian striker Jordan Murray punished Okwuosa's slip with a composed finish. Kuching were handed a lifeline almost immediately when Fairuz Zakaria fouled Alif Hassan in the box. After a lengthy six-minute VAR review, a penalty was awarded — but substitute Gabriel Nistelrooy saw his effort brilliantly saved by Brunei's North Macedonian goalkeeper Kristijan Naumovski. The crucial stop ensured Brunei take a slender one-goal advantage into the second leg. Meanwhile, in Iskandar Puteri, defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) flexed their muscles with a 5-0 rout of UM-Damansara at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium. Argentinian wingback Jonathan Silva struck twice in the 44th and 54th minutes, before Spanish forward Teto Martin (78th), national striker Joao Figueiredo (90th), and Spanish winger Celso Bermejo (91st) completed the emphatic win.
