Vishal Jethwa is on cloud nine! His new film Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, just got a huge round of applause, a full nine minutes, at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. But while fans were busy praising the film, a short video from an interview started going viral. In the clip, Vishal and Janhvi Kapoor are seen chatting with each other, while Ishaan Khatter sits quietly, focused on answering a question. Some people on social media felt that Vishal and Janhvi were being 'rude" and ignoring Ishaan.
Now, Vishal has spoken up to clear the confusion. In an interview with Zoom, Vishal reacted to allegations of being rude towards Ishaan. He clarified, 'Aisa bilkul bhi nahi hai. Uss waqt Ishaan mujhe help kar raha tha kyunki main voh question understand nahi kar pa raha tha. Vahan language issue yeh bhi hai ki log French mein baat karte hai. Uska translation English mein aur English mein bhi kaise baat karni hai main samajh nahi pa raha tha. Ishaan ne answer dena shuru kiya till the time I was talking to Janhvi to understand what they were asking me. Aisa zara bhi nahi hai main Ishaan ki bohot respect karta hu. Main bohot thankful hu kyunki main usse bohot kuch seekhta hu."
(That's not true. Ishaan was trying to help me understand the question they were asking me. Since we were in France, they [the reporters] were talking in French. Due to that language issue, I had to understand what they said in French and what it meant in English and how I should answer it correctly. Ishaan started answering first. Meanwhile, I was talking to Janhvi to understand what they were asking me. I respect Ishaan immensely. I am thankful to him for always guiding me.)
Homebound, produced by Karan Johar, had its big premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2025. The film hasn't got a release date for theatres yet.
Homebound recently faced controversy when the film's cameraman, Pratik Shah, was accused of bad behaviour and misconduct. After the news came out, he deleted his Instagram account, which made people start guessing what was going on. The production team shared a statement later. 'Mr. Pratik Shah was a freelancer on the project Homebound and was working on it for a limited period. His engagement with us has been completed. During this limited period, our internal committee for POSH didn't receive any complaints against him from any cast or crew on our film Homebound," read the statement.
