Accreditation highlights strategic alignment between operational expansion and service excellence
Customer experience ambitions accelerate in step with record-breaking passenger volumes
Abu Dhabi, UAE – Zayed International Airport (AUH) has achieved Level 3 accreditation in the Airports Council International (ACI) Customer Experience Accreditation programme, a significant milestone that marks the airport's commitment to delivering world-class guest experiences.
Awarded in July 2025, the Level 3 accreditation represents a major upgrade from the previous Levels 1 and 2, both of which have also been successfully renewed. It reflects the airport's commitment to placing guests at the heart of its operations and recognises the progress made in embedding customer experience into every layer of the organisation.
The accreditation follows a period of sustained traffic growth, with AUH welcoming 15.5 million passengers in the first half of 2025 – a 13.2% year-on-year growth, building on 28.1% growth in 2024 and 44.5% in 2023. As passenger volumes continue their upward trajectory, the airport is scaling its customer experience strategy to meet and exceed the expectations of an expanding global traveller base.
Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: 'This recognition from ACI comes as we celebrate 17 consecutive quarters of growth, including a strong performance in the first half of 2025. As we expand connectivity to meet rising demand, we remain sharply focused on enhancing the guest experience. Achieving Level 3 accreditation reflects our ability to deliver both growth and quality, ensuring that our customer experience evolves in step with our success.'
The ACI Customer Experience Accreditation is the only global initiative of its kind that provides a comprehensive evaluation of how customer experience is integrated across airport operations. It assesses how effectively airports understand, manage, and embed guest experience into their overarching strategy.
To attain Level 3, Zayed International Airport introduced a series of targeted initiatives that were met with strong commendation from ACI. Among these was the launch of dedicated passenger focus groups, designed to capture in-depth insights into the expectations, behaviours, and preferences of travellers.
Another notable initiative was the implementation of a guest shadowing programme, enabling employees to observe and experience the full airport journey from a passenger's perspective – fostering a deeper understanding of traveller needs and directly informed enhancements in service delivery.
The airport also strengthened internal transparency through the regular publication of its Voice of the Customer reports, which are shared across departments via its internal platform. In addition, Abu Dhabi Airports' teams ensured close alignment with key stakeholders and service partners, embedding customer experience within a wider operational ecosystem.
Employees, stakeholders, and passengers are now actively involved in shaping the guest experience, with customer-centric thinking woven into daily operations. This evolution signals tangible progress and reinforces the airport's drive to foster a culture of shared ownership and continuous enhancement.
This recognition reaffirms Abu Dhabi Airports' dedication to elevating every touchpoint of the guest journey, ensuring every innovation, initiative, and partnership is rooted in service excellence and traveller-centric design.

UAE summer: How some residents shift to weekend mode as early as Tuesday

'After over 25 years in the UAE, I've come to treat Thursdays like a soft start to the weekend,' says Omer Abd Elkhalig, a Sudanese artist. 'I take a walk to unwind, plan small weekend tasks, organise meals, and spend time with family to ease into a slower rhythm." "In the summer, I explore new indoor cafés for a change of scene. I start planning my weekend as early as Wednesday, as it motivates me to be more energetic in my work. Sometimes I watch movies and keep a long list ready to download my weekend bucket list. I also value digital detox hours, small things that help me recharge before the weekend really begins.' From prepping ice cubes for cold coffee to neatly arranging salad ingredients, these small acts become rituals of joy. For many in the UAE, the art of making the most of summer lies not in escape but in embracing it, one thoughtful step at a time. Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels. 'Keeps us connected, refreshed' 'My mom was born and brought up in the UAE, and my dad moved here around 1966, so they know the UAE summers really well,' says Ana Fernandes, an Indian resident of the UAE. 'We've found our rhythm with the early weekend; it adds real sunshine to our plans. Since both my parents have a half-day on Fridays, we get a head start. We usually plan during the week, whether it's checking for a Bollywood release or something new on Netflix. Even in summer, we stay active with evening walks with our dog Ande, family board games, or quick pet-friendly staycations in Dubai. It keeps us connected, refreshed, and ready for the week ahead.' Felyjoy Gonzales, a 33-year-old Filipina who has lived in Dubai for a decade, says early weekends help her stay refreshed during the summer. 'I love short staycations, spa sessions, and karaoke nights with friends. It's my way of staying cool and mentally recharging indoors. Even a few hours of planned quiet time during the week, I start mine as early as Tuesday, makes a big difference,' she shares. As summer peaks across the UAE, a growing number of Dubai residents are shifting into weekend mode well before Friday. With temperatures crossing 45°C, many are adjusting their routines. To prepare for the weekly break, they start wrapping up work tasks earlier, switching to wellness and social plans by Thursday evening, and redefining what the weekend feels like. From packed cafés by late Thursday to wellness classes fully booked before sunset, the trend points to a collective behavioural shift. Businesses are also adapting, with some flexible workspaces and agencies quietly supporting 'soft Fridays,' allowing hybrid or half-day routines in response to employee well-being. 'Early weekend' culture Maneet Singh, psychotherapist and mental health counsellor at Keyani Wellness Centre, says the growing 'early weekend' culture in the UAE isn't just a social shift; it's a reflection of how we psychologically adapt to environmental stress. According to Temporal Motivation Theory, our drive increases when a reward feels closer and more emotionally meaningful. And in the peak of Dubai's heat, the idea of waiting until Friday or Saturday to unwind feels less satisfying. So people are front-loading joy, grabbing small moments of rest, social connection, or personal time earlier in the week. What's interesting is that our brains start releasing dopamine, the 'feel-good' neurochemical, before the reward itself, just in anticipation. This early sense of relief and control becomes especially powerful in a climate where external conditions can feel restrictive. There's also a bit of hedonic adaptation happening over time; we get used to the discomfort, but we still crave emotional novelty. Shifting the rhythm of the week offers that micro-reset our minds need. 'For families, this shift is even more significant. Parents are reimagining Thursday evenings, movie nights, board games, and intentional connection as a way to reset sooner. From a psychological lens, this ties into attachment theory, which shows that predictable emotional closeness supports children's sense of safety and regulation. And for parents, it offers something deeply valuable: the chance to be present without the usual rush of the weekend. In essence, the early weekend isn't a luxury; it's a form of emotional recalibration. It's how individuals and families in the UAE are building small pockets of control, connection, and comfort in a season that often demands resilience,' she added. As the summer heat in the UAE reaches its peak, this growing weekend culture serves as a powerful reminder that thriving often means slowing down sooner, reconnecting with what matters, and embracing the season in your way.

Dh2 million brew: Rare coffee coming to Dubai

The highest-rated coffee in the world will soon be available in the Dubai, complete with a sky-high price tag. Julith Coffee & Roastery, which opened its doors in Dubai last week, has paid more than Dh2 million at auction in Panama to secure an exceptionally rare variety. It placed the winning bid at the prestigious Best of Panama competition, claiming a 20kg lot for Dh2,218,785 ($604,080) − the highest price ever paid for auction coffee anywhere in the world. That works out at Dh110,938 ($30,204) per kg, shattering previous records and setting a new benchmark for rarity, quality and value. The beans, a Washed Geisha variety from a high-altitude family farm in Panama, will be roasted in 'extremely limited quantities' at Julith's new roastery brew lounge in Al Quoz. Tasting sessions are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Julith is a new two-floor concept headed up by Turkish coffee roasting champion Serkan Sagsoz, who has described the rare record-breaking coffee as 'the absolute pinnacle of flavour, craftsmanship and terroir'. Grown in the mountains of Chiriqui, the coffee achieved an unprecedented 98/100 score in the annual competition, making it Panama's highest-scoring Washed Geisha. Harvested in April, the beans underwent a meticulous 48-hour cold-temperature fermentation followed by climate-controlled drying to preserve the flavour. In all, 549 bids were placed for the lot. When the final hammer fell, Julith came out on top, to back up its ambition to bring the world's rarest coffees to Dubai. 'We can't wait to share this once-in-a-lifetime coffee with those who truly value the artistry behind every cup,' Sagsoz added. Organised annually by the Specialty Coffee Association, the Best of Panama competition gathers the world's finest coffee growers. The top-scoring varieties, evaluated by an international jury, are then auctioned to an elite circle of buyers. Panama introduced the Geisha variety for the first time at the 2004 Best of Panama competition. Since then, it has established itself as the most recognised and expensive coffee in the world.

ACICO reports net profit of KD 8.3mln and operating profit of KD 3.5mln in Q2 2025

Maintains stable prices and supports the local market amid operational developments Kuwait: ACICO Group announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2025, reporting a net profit of KD 8.3 million, marking a major turnaround from the net loss of KD 2.3 million recorded during the same period in 2024. The results reflect the company's stringent cost control policy, enhanced operational efficiency, continued progress in implementing its financial restructuring plan and its operational strength that positions it as a partner of choice in key infrastructure projects in Kuwait and the region. Commenting on the results, Chairman of the Board Mr. Emad Abdullah Al Essa stated: 'We are entering a new chapter that paves the way for strengthening our financial position in line with our solid operational track record and sector-wide achievements. We have built a strong foundation rooted in operational efficiency, prudent management and a clear commitment to sustainable growth, ensuring long-term value for our shareholders, customers and the community. With confidence, we are moving forward toward achieving financial and operational balance that reinforces ACICO's position as a leading national company aligned with Kuwait's and the region's development ambitions.' Sales from industrial operations grew by 7.9% to KD 35.6 million. Gross profit margin improved from 17% to 18%, and selling, general and administrative expenses remained flat year on year. Despite these improvements, the company recorded an operating profit of KD 3.5 million, compared to KD 5 million in Q2 2024. This variance is primarily due to the exclusion of real estate revenues following the divestment of certain assets as part of the company's restructuring efforts, which have significantly reduced total liabilities and interest expenses from KD 8 million to KD 3.7 million. Restructuring Enhances Financial Position During the quarter, ACICO finalized a major debt restructuring agreement with a creditor bank for a total liability of KD 128.5 million. The agreement, which aligns with the Group's approved financial restructuring plan, resulted in a non-recurring gain of KD 3.5 million and a corresponding increase in shareholders' equity. The agreement included a multi-phase implementation plan, comprising the transfer of a property worth KD 60 million, a partial cash repayment of KD 2 million, direct debt discounts, and the conversion of part of the debt into preferred shares. The Group reaffirmed that this agreement is a continuation of its comprehensive financial restructuring strategy endorsed by the Board of Directors, aimed at strengthening financial efficiency, fortifying the balance sheet, and reinforcing ACICO's position as a leading regional player.
